I gave these boots a test walk in conditions that were relatively mild for the type of weather I purchased them for. On the day I wore them light rain and fog made a thin layer of ice on walking surfaces. I found I had to make a few adaptations to my stride, but the grip was good and gave me confidence in my steps. In fact, my dog's foot slipped sometimes but mine did not. The boots not designed for long walks but I walked 5km and found them lightweight and comfortable. I liked the low foot bed, it helped with balance on icy surfaces. I hope to provide another review once the real weather returns this winter.

Pros: Warm, waterproof, fits foot well Cons: I bought them to replace a similar style from a few years ago that I absolutely loved. The original had lace holes all the way up and a zipper along the side. When I ordered these I was expecting the same and didn't notice that the top two are hooks not holes. This is a very poor design because every time the zipper opens the hooks lose tension and come undone. I had to tightly knot the laces at the top of the holes in order to keep the tension through the boot which makes it a pain to to adjust for different layering.Even with the knot in place the laces fall off the hooks when walking changes the tension of the top of the boot. I spend a lot of time fighting with laces.

I wanted to like these for purely safety and comfort reasons, not style. But they were too big even with the laces tightened to the max. And there was a pinch in the ankle and shin area when bending. Had to return them.

I really wanted to love these boots. They have good style, I was excited about the Vibram soles, and Merrell makes a good product. I needed some solid winter boots with good traction and support. I have been wearing them since November (it's February now) and have increasingly become disappointed with them. I wear them almost daily for regular activities- walking my dog, going to the store, shoveling snow, simple hikes in the snow. - The soles have a good traction pattern, but I felt that the Arctic Grip texture wore off within a week of use and I feel that the traction isn't any better than any other winter boot sole. - The ankle support area becomes increasingly loose and folds over itself. I think it is the way the zipper feature is designed. It would probably retain shape in the ankle area better if the zipper was down the back of the calf, and not down the inside past the ankle. - The design has too many seams, when I wear them I can feel cold leaking through the different seams in the lower part of the boot. As long as I am walking my feet stay mostly warm, but once I stop they become cold quickly. I live in northern WA, so it's pretty cold here, but I was hoping these boots would hold up to the challenge. - The tongue design is not pleated and connected to the inside of the boot for the full length of the boot, but is instead a separate tongue piece starting in the ankle area. Unfortunately, this has allowed cold and snow to seep in through the front of the boot and get into my socks when I am in deeper snow. - The eyelets at the top of the boot don't hold the laces in place. As I wear the boot and the boot shifts and moves with my walking, the laces become loose and fall from the eyelets at the top of the boot. This results in me having to stop frequently and retie my laces; and trust me, I am lacing them up snugly! This is probably the most frustrating thing about them for me because I have to stop and take of my gloves and it's cold! - One plus about them though is that my socks don't fall down my feet as I wear them, an issue I have had with other boots in the past! I am disappointed because I hoped that these would be a good investment for several seasons of use, but I will need to find something different for next season. :-(

I bought these boots online and so didn't get a chance to try them on ahead of time. I returned the first pair because they were too big, the second pair fits better, but I still could have gone down a half size, so I wonder if this is the problem. The right boot bends just above my ankle and pushes my leg at that point which is annoying when out walking for any distance. I bought them for the no-slip vibram sole which I haven't had a chance to test yet. They are warm and I like them otherwise. Because I have worn these outside I don't think I can return them now, but if I had tried them in a store I probably wouldn't have bought them. They are too expensive for their quality and not what I expected of Merrell boots.

The side zipper stops above the ankle, making it difficult to slip on without untying the laces, especially with thick socks. Boots fit large and heavy. Warm and comfortable, great grip.

A little clunky through the ankle and foot area. Not easy to walk in, because of stiffness through the ankle, I'm hoping they break in with wear. I don't know that I will be able to keep them on while I'm indoors, I'll have to bring other shoes to change into. I bought them thinking they'd be a little more stylish judging from the picture.

Easy on the eyes but hard on the feet. I wore these indoors for an hour, my ankles rubbed on the zippers (I do have big ankles). I felt there was no ankle support, and when walking on stairs the boots really dug in at the bend. I do a lot of heavy incline/decline walking so the boots are not for me.

The boot was small in the calf so I returned it. The foot felt fine, but loose in the ankle area.

I ordered two pairs of these boots- the first pair were great, except that the left boot had a tear in the lining. I returned it and ordered the exact same pair. Unfortunately, there was a weird bumpy piece on the left boot that kept rubbing against my ankle when I tried it on, so I've now given up on these as the quality control seems iffy. Otherwise I would have kept them. I'm a size 8.5 in sneakers, and usually go with a size 9 in boots. A size 9 in these fit well, other than the lump on the side.

Yes, the traction is good, but they are too wide and consequently they shift and rub so I can't walk as far as I typically do. I tried thicker socks, a little helpful, but still not great. I kept them, but I shouldn't have bc they sit there while I regularly choose the old ones.

Although I knew nothing can keep you from slipping, thought I would give these a try. Just moved to cold country so encounter icy sidewalks on walks. Foot still slips, maybe not as much as in hikers. Comfy cushioned footbed but end of zipper gave me blister on ankle. Wear them looser or tighter, experimentation to come. Kept feet warm and dry trudging through the snow.

The fit and size seemed close to my usual 9.5M though I probably could have worn a thin second sock and still had room. I liked the style but felt a lot of discomfort where the foot of the boot meets the vertical section. There is a hard seam or change of material here and it digs in just below the ankle. This was worse on one foot than the other so I tried loosening and tightening the laces but this did not help. I didn't notice this when testing the boots in my house but experienced ongoing pain with one boot the three times I wore the boots outside. The boots were nice and warm and otherwise comfortable. The zipper wasn't a great option since the top two rows of laces loosened open when I used the zipper. The laces were easy enough to use on and off though.

My favorite boots in the world are my Merrell Prevoz, which I have in brown but I'm now needing a black pair so thought I'd try the Aurora Tall Ice+ Waterproof in black. While the boots fit my feet and legs, the first thing I noticed was that they have very weak ankle support. The ankles folded in on each itself as I walked. It felt funny and I tested it and found I could easily sprain my ankles in these. Not something I want when I'm walking on an icy path. So back they go.

Unfortunately my personal experience with these boots are not positive. The heel portion is very hard and dug into my heels. After a week and a half of wearing them around outside for work and buying heel guards, they are still just as uncomfortable. I'd suggest looking for boots that have a soft material instead of what is ised for this boot around the heel.

I have the short version and love them so I put the tall ones on my holiday list. Sadly, I am very disappointed with the fit of these tall boots. I thought maybe this season they would fit better or be more comfortable, no such luck. The laces and zipper are just odd. The boots bunch around my ankles causing blisters and general discomfort. Overall, the boots are clunky and not comfortable. Unfortunately, these boots will just be taking up space I my closet this winter.

I was really hoping these boots would work out, as I need traction on ice and snow. They seemed to fit well with light weight wool blend socks, were comfortable, and had decent traction, but after an hour I could feel pain at the back of my heel. I took them off and there was a big blister. I examined the boot and found the cause to be a seam between the upper and lower part of the boot, and no extra padding there to prevent rubbing. Because this part is not leather, I don't think it is possible that the boot will break in from wearing it. So I am going to return them and hope that this design flaw will be corrected by next winter.

I was so excited to get these last year but after 2 winters I've hardly worn them. I have to fully unlace them and loosen them past the ankle and then once they're zipped, go through row by row to make them extremely tight. It fits too tightly in the ankle but otherwise it's so loose my socks fall down. Odd fit. Can't just zip on and off.

I purchased these at the end of last season because I was tired of slipping on ice. I love all my Merrells and had high hopes for these. Today was the first time I was able to wear them in icy conditions (not a lot of snow yet) and experienced an immediate failure of the Arctic Technology. I slipped on my driveway and tweeked my back terribly as I tried to regain my balance and not fall - fortunately, I did not, but I have a lot of pain in my lower back! This is exactly what I was trying to avoid by purchasing these boots! Additionally, in the short time I wore these, the laces were constantly coming undone. They also slouch at the ankle which causes the zipper to rub my ankles, so I'm not sure what will happen if I wear these for a longer period of time. The tongue gusset is only ankle high, so I'm not sure if these will do well in snow above the ankle, this also goes for the zipper- not sure if snow/moisture will seep through. All in all, this is the first pair of Merrells that I really regret purchasing! Since I purchased them last year, I can't return them - sad.

I bought these boots five months ago because I'm a postal worker who walks about 11 miles on a daily basis in Green Bay, WI and wanted the arctic technology to work in our icy winter weathers. First, the "arctic technology" doesn't work at all. I had to revert back to my Neos for icy conditions. The Aurora Tall Ice Plus Waterproof Snow Boots were uncomfortable because they slouch at the ankles causing rubbing on my ankles and heels which quickly turned into blisters. After a few months of Band-Aids and consistent use, the boots finally broke in and became more comfortable. The boots did work well with keeping my feet warm; I never had to add any heating elements to my boots to keep them warm. However, they are not waterproof. When cutting across lawns to deliver mail, if the melting snow got above the rubber portion on the boot, forget it, your feet will get wet.but they will still be warm!

Not bad snow boots, but as for ice slippage, they are horrible! Gingerly stepped up on rubber running board of my truck with a little snow and went flying. Could barely walk for days after landing on my back with my arthritic knee bent underneath me. No one else to feed the horses...Don't trust them not to slip!
