I love my Arcteryx Durant coat! I researched and purchased it prior to a Spring trip to Iceland. This may make it sound like it would be bulky or just for wintertime, but it's not. I was looking for a quality, waterproof, insulated, layering jacket. It's functional, well made, light, breathable, and attractively trim cut. Perfect! I easily wear it three seasons in the Midwest. I haven't experienced the same frustrations of other reviewers about the zipper or buttons. I appreciate the tightness of design for managing the elements Although it was an expensive coat, it is very well made. I think it's a good investment. The first arcteryx I bought my teenage son, is still wearing well after five years. I highly recommend trying on this coat prior to purchasing. Because I purposefully bought mine for layering, I sized up to a large. I'm 5'11"/29 waist/36D bust. I usually wear a medium.

I've had the coat for a year now and I love it. It is so breathable, wind-blocking, waterproof, and presentable. I wish I'd gotten it sooner, because it is worth the price; the coat is so much more comfortable (breathable!) than the succession of non-Goretex raincoats I've had from MEC through the years. For me, the Durant has ended up being a three season coat : I wore it from October through May... including winter in Ottawa! I'm a brisk walker who hates getting hot and sticky, and it turns out that this coat works like a wonder for brisk wintertime walks. I was comfortable walking across windy bridges at -25C (with merino accessories mind you!) and I didn't get crazy hot when I stepped into a heated building. I switched to my down coat only when I was going to have to stand around in temperatures below about -12C. I've often worn a backpack with the coat, and there is no sign of wear from where the backpack rubs. In contrast to other reviewers, I've had no problem with the hood. Sometimes I flip the tip of the hood back to use the hood stiffener, but most of the time not. The only drawback that I've encountered is probably related to the off-white colour of my coat. A grey colour, from some material used inside the coat, has seeped through the outershell just above the seam on the back of the hand. This makes the cuff look slightly gronky, even when it is clean. I doubt this problem would affect any colour coat other than white.

Like a number of reviewers, I agree- the zipper is a bit difficult and annoying. This coat is warm and rain wicks away well. The fit is good as well however, the two complaints I have are one- the coat doesn't lay well in the torso area- there is a big gap that goes outwards that almost made me not buy it (probably not explains well), and two- the bottom doesn't line up in the front when zipped so it kinda looks awkward. It is warm and comfortable though and functions how I need it to so keeping it.

I really love the design and the look of this coat. It's light but still keeps you warm. I can wear this above 30F with a sweater inside. I can still look chic and professional. However, the zipper is the most frustrating thing in the world, I bought two from different stores and they both have the same problem. I just cannot zip it up, and I got really frustrated when I am trying to head out of the door. The other major complain is the collar, when zipped to the top, the collar keeps toughing my chin, and as the collar is stiff, my chin hurts a little bit, especially if I need to talk. I also bought Patera to try on and compare, it also have the same issues, zipper and itchy chin. Patera is even more stiff so eventually I decided to keep this one.

I received my online order recently. I like the quality of the fabric. Unfortunately, there are so many wrinkles on it. It has been hung for a couple of days, and I did not notice any difference. I am a kind of people who can not tolerate wrinkles on the coat. I am not sure what I should do next?

The Durant jacket is a stylish, weatherproof jacket that is great for our soggy Vancouver months. It is also a big investment so I hope to have it for many years to come! I've owned mine in black for almost a year and it's holding up great. I love that it is lightly insulated, just warm enough to not feel the rain or cold hitting you through the top layer. I also appreciate that it is totally smooth from the exterior and no one would know it's insulated from its outward appearance. As for fit, it is a slim fit though! I am typically a S or M in most tops. The M is almost too tight to zip up! But the L is loose in the arms and I upper/mid region. It doesn't look too big though, even when unzipped. I compromised with an L because I'd rather be comfortable and have full range of movement. Also, it's actually roomy enough for me to wear a long down liner jacket (Botanie from Aritzia) underneath for when it snows, making it a 4 season jacket, with some assistance. As for length, it covers my thighs! That was my requisite. But I'm only 5'4" so not hard to do! I do worry about the little plastic snaps/buttons. They feel rather flimsy for such a pricey jacket? I find myself being very careful when I unbutton them, but so far, so good. Also, the zipper is a bit sticky on my jacket and often requires more time and attention than I'd like when trying to zip it up quickly. It's a bit of weak point, but I guess it is what it is. The other practicalities outweigh the cons.

I work in downtown Seattle. It will come as no surprise to many that it is often rainy, and is often windy as well, making umbrellas an impractical and uncommon choice. I would REALLY love a super chic and super waterproof jacket with a hood. I have tried Burberry trenches without hoods, Burberry coats that are not quite waterproof with hoods, and all manner of other options. Unfortunately, a fancy looking coat doesn't help if you are wet and bedraggled underneath. So, this coat is this falls's effort to find a functional coat. I do think I've gotten the occasional side eye about showing up for meetings in what looks a bit like mountaineering gear, but (it being the PNW) I am usually not the only one, and the bottom line is that this coat works. The hood stays on, the pockets have a fuzzy liner and zippers, and the wrist openings have a little cutout (not thumb holes) to fit the profile of your hand. The grey color is pretty. I don't think I'll give up the quest to find a chic and truly waterproof work coat with a hood, but in the meantime, I am dry and happy with this coat. I did size up in order accommodate jackets, blazers, etc underneath, particularly through the shoulder area, but I also have robust shoulders, so that may not be necessary for those with a more slender frame.

I love this coat and bought it for an upcoming trip to Ireland. On very cold days it's great with a warm layer underneath. I spent way too much time fiddling with the zipper. It's not a cheap coat so why such a poor zipper?

While the colour and style of this jacket are beautiful, the sizing is completely off. Large was too big in chest and arm holes, so I ordered a medium, which was 3 inches less in chest width as well as arm holes. I bought this fall weather in Edmonton, but even with a T-shirt, the medium was so small. I have other jackets that fit perfectly, but this is just awful !!

I find this coat to be very small and there is no allowance for movement of shoulders or arms. I read the description and sizing guide online very carefully and before ordering. The description states that it is 'regular fit' and using the listed measurements, I should fit easily into size small. It does fit if I am not wearing ANYTHING heavier than a very light t-shirt underneath and even then, there is not enough room for me to lift my arms above my waist or hugs my arms in towards my body. I think this is designed to be worn by urban commuters that do not move much. The hood only has one adjustment and it is not an effective adjustment. Sadly, I purchased this online through a local company and unbeknownst to me, it is final sale. This was my fist Arc'teryx purchase and will most likely be the last.

I usually wear Patagonia & Mtn Hardware, but decided to try Arc'teryx. This coat is the perfect weight and the gore-tex works as it should, but don't think about wearing it in wet, windy weather. The Hood doesn't stay in place. The only cinch is in the back of the Hood, so when cinched, it's pulled backwards away from your head and face, and even a tiny breeze blows the Hood off your head. If you don't use the cinch, the Hood doesn't stay in place either. This coat is beautiful to look at, but if you have wet, windy weather like I do in Portland, OR, do NOT buy this coat.

I bought the Durant coat for my wife; what follows are her comments. (It's relevant to know that she has worked in a garment factory sewing jackets.) "The first thing that stood out to me was how light the coat is and how clean and precise all the detailed internal stitching is. I appreciate the elegance and simplicity of the design. I love the classic beauty and comfortable fit. And I can testify to the effective weather protection after wearing it through a rainy Vancouver winter. Kudos to the garment workers who sewed this excellent design into perfection!"

I bought this about a year ago now to have a more professional and functional jacket to wear to work. Currently I'm now WFH but I haven't gotten any less wear out of it - it's my go to jacket for day to day.

Ive had this coat a couple of months now. Its style is very no frills but I really love it. I was looking for a trim fit with warmth but no bulk and this coat provides both. It is extremely light but also cosy, we have had a cold snap in the UK with temperatures at around 0c and I have always felt protected from any wind, rain and cold.I am a size 8 to 10 and I ordered a small. There is room to layer underneath which I like, the insulation in the coat does seem fairly thin so I've been wearing a thermal long sleeve and a fleece too. I really like the fact that I don't feel constricted in it and there does seem to be good freedom of movement in the arms without the coat riding up. It was expensive but I'm really pleased I took the plunge and bought it.

I bought my jacket about a year ago and have used it for what feels like every day, except the occasionally hot summer days. It's prefect for windy and rainy conditions and looks great, also to office attire.

My sister has had the Durant coat for a couple of years now and has raved over it. After being cold and wet yet again on fall excursions with my dog here in the interior of BC from failed DWR coating on an older "raincoat", I knew it was time to venture into the world of Gore-tex. I purchased this in Cobalt Moon, size large (same size as my sister's coat which fit me fairly well). It is light as a feather, has a multitude of pockets, and is not the crinkly Gore-tex of yesteryear. I'm willing to bet this will keep me pretty toasty up to about -10C, possibly a bit colder. I am a very tall lady (6'1", 36-30-40, 158 lbs) and the large fits with enough space under for a thick fleece or heavy sweater. Other great features include a hood that's long enough and large enough even for those of us who are statuesque and the sleeves are long enough as well. I love the articulated arms, way to go Arc'teryx! This is the first jacket I've owned where the sleeves don't creep up as soon as I bend my arms. The only "flaw" (and this is just because I am tall) is that it could be 1 1/2-2" longer in the torso and overall length. This would make the seaming along the back fit a bit nicer. I so wish more companies would provide some options that are tall specific. The centre back length is 33.5". I absolutely love it.

I bought this when it was available in a grey color. Very flattering fitting without being tight, surprisingly warm, good closure at the wrists- great with skirts, excellent length, great to wear over tights in a hurry. Good for casual and dressed up. True to size. I'm 5'2, and ordered a S.

I live in the PNW and this is by far my favorite jacket. It's a really flattering cut and surprisingly warm for as lightweight as it is. For reference, I'm 5'6" and 130lb. This is my everyday coat and I love it.

Love this coat so very much. A must have for west coast living as it's warm enough for wet winters and cuts out any wind and dampness. Well worth the investment.
