Warm and dry with understated good looks for the walk to work. I was struggling to find something for those rainy east coast days when temps were above freezing but too cold for a lighter shell. This jacket has clean lines - probably not the best choice if you like heavy layering - but accommodates a light sweater or fleece to extend the range to where a parka kicks in. Sleeves reach to mid palm (I'm 6 feet, 165 lbs) in my medium. I'm very pleased with this - fills a big wardrobe hole!

The jacket is versatile and it keeps me warm in windy days. However, I'm aware that there's a silver colour that's available, but I'm not sure why is it not on arc'teryx website.

I own many jackets for various outdoor activities but a versatile jacket that looks good and has moderate warm and water protection is extremely versatile as the weather changes!

This is a great jacket for chilly walks in the city. I live in New York and this is my go to jacket.

I absolutely love this jacket. I've been wearing everyday and I love that it's so lightweight but keeps me warm. I wore it over the weekend as a mid layer under my snowboarding jacket shell and I was so warm and comfortable all day. I would recommend this jacket to anyone!!

Bought this as a alternative to the Fission as a warm jacket, but not necessarily for cold winters of Scotland. But it is warm in its own right, a good under layer and this jacket will keep you warm in cold but not arctic conditions.

This wasn't my first Arc'teryx jacket so I knew what I was getting in terms quality and fit. I wanted a jacket to make the trek to work and back from the train station downtown (about a 20 min walk through high rise wind tunnels). I hate taking the underground walkways and found my solution in the Ames. Love it!

This jacket is exceptional. I love how the hood stows away, and the sleek lines of this jacket. The waterproofing is what you'd expect, and the insulation stays put - and is warm. This is my favorite Arc'teryx jacket, and my go to when things turn chilly and wet.

With an exceptionally high build quality that shares features from their purest line, the Ames Jacket is no doubt a statement from Arc'teryx. Warm, waterproof, and breathable while maintaining a casual demeanor; dawning the Ames Jacket inspires confidence tailored to urbanites minus the bold logos. During cooler weather a mid-layer is recommended, however, the Ames has ample warmth to deal with the majority of the spring/fall seasons. A decent mid-layer will provide greater utility extending the practical use of the garment. The collar is stiff due to the stowable hood but manageable considering the value when needed. Overall I am pleased, there are no signs of wear and the jacket has performed as advertised.

This coat truly is the best garmet I own from Arc'teryx. I bought this to have an "all-rounder" coat that could be worn casually whilst out and about the town, but also for walking when required. I've found that I rarely, if ever wear my Arc'teryx Cassiar Jacket now, because the Ames is just too versatile. Works great as a shell for those REALLY cold moments over a Nuclei FL or a Lorum Hoody. The quality of the shell/Gore-Tex outer is second to non. Like most Arc'teryx jackets, it doesn't suffer from that "scratchy" feel like its competitors, but the Ames seems to go a little further; feeling very premium.

I bought this jacket because I was tired of wearing my Gore-Tex climbing or skiing jackets around Vancouver in the rain. A regular Gore-Tex shell requires a mid-layer to keep you warm and a ski jacket was too warm and looked a little out of place at formal gatherings. The Ames strikes the perfect balance. Completely waterproof, lightly insulated so you can throw it on over a shirt and still be warm and dry, but not so warm that its uncomfortable to wear a sweater underneath. The jacket looks very sharp and I love the stowable hood. I hate carrying an umbrella but I also hate having a loose hood flapping around 90% of the time. The zipper for the hood is also very discreet, you can barely tell it's there at all. Finally, the fabric is very comfortable. The face fabric has a nice feel to it, but the lining is especially soft and cozy for a synthetic. Putting it on is almost like getting a hug. Perfect for the 10 months of the year in Vancouver that its rainy and cool.

Its perfect jacket for autumn and spring, yes even during cold and wet sumerdays. Since it lacks down it's not as warm as expected, but for sura yet another good choice.

I live in Denver and use this as a winter weekday work jacket. It's got some insulation for handling commuting, going to lunch, etc. without being too warm. Even though it may be cold outside, a big heavy jacket would be too warm for driving and just running out to lunch, Starbucks, etc. It looks appropriate for work, too. Sheds snow and drizzle perfectly well. Would like to see some hood insulation once in a while, but then it wouldn't tuck as neatly away. So, sometimes a con, sometimes not. Also, I've got a pretty athletic build (thick shoulders, narrow waist) so I would prefer if it were a little more tapered at the midsection. But it's not a huge deal, either.

I have bought AMES for Christmas and straight away it was a great choice. Ames is great jacket for everyday use. I'm 183 / 88kg and I wear L. perfect fit Collar is a bit stiff but after few days you get use to it. Inner lining of the pockets is warm. Expensive but you pay for quality.
