Have been running since 1983 and have stuck with the 990 series shoe and all of its variations. The feet never hurt, I do wear orthodics with them, and never in a hurry to take them off at after a run or end of the day. This only and biggest disappointment is the sole. The last several pairs have fell apart long before they wear out. I have glued and re-glued the sole back in place on several pairs. At the cost of these, they should last way much longer. The 4-5 pairs before those, the top side of the canvas/fabric fell apart and left holes. Again, soles were far from wore out. NB stores offered no explanation nor compensation. Yes, I still buy them, but only because me feet never hurt. Not trying to make a fashion statement. Have even been seen wearing duct tape to hold the sole in place.

these are good shoes as I have owned them many times over the last 10-12 years. I think they are very comfortable. A few of the pairs have not held up like they should as far as the stitching coming loose to early in the shoes life. The new balance store has always replace them though.

I purchased these to replace my old 1540's. I wear them around the house and at the gym where I use the elliptical machine. They are what I expected.

These newest 990s seem to run a little large. But that could perhaps be because I moved from a 2E to a 4E. But at 11.5 4E, it seems like I might have an entire size bigger. But for running, due to the swelling of the foot, this should be perfect. So far, they're as comfortable as my old 993s. These might be the only pair of running shoes I'll ever purchase. Thanks, NB!

The fit and size were right on with an 11 1/2 Medium. The color of Navy Silver is very nice. The shoe is great once it is on. I particularly like that the shoe laces are the perfect length. So many shoes come today with overly long laces that you have to double tie if you don't want to be stepping on them. My only complaint, a minor one, is that they don't open very wide to slip on and there is no tab to pull to help get them on. You either have to use a shoe horn or try to pull them around your heel with your finger. All my previous New Balance sneakers were much easier to put on. However, the quality looks good and I am hoping to get long wear out of them.

I've worn this shoe for over 10 years but would love it if there were different colors for wider sizes like 4E.

Shoe very light and comfortable for those with neuropathy. I would recommend that the shoe insert be replaced with a thicker and more arch supportive insert i.e. Dr. Scholl type inserts.

Shoes I bought on line are fine. NB has always been my shoe of choice. However, I did not care for the daily e-mails, and NB ads showing up on FB and other apps that I opened.

I bought this shoe for my husband. He says its comfortable. Cost a bit more than we usually spend, but liked this style better than many that are out right now. Has held up since purchased 6 months ago.

Best athletic shoe I have owned as far as quality goes but still required inserts to make a difference in soreness at the end of the day. For most wearers they will be perfect. For anyone standing for 14-16 hrs a day, keep looking friends.

I was hesitant to buy these shoes because version 3 I noticed a reoccurring comment about a cat piss smell. These shoes are great because a lot of days lots of shoes are mostly mesh. Plus they have good traction. I went with the black pair because I figured the white sole would get dirtier easier. You do notice the suede more on the black pair Suede can become dirty easier so some might want a brush. In the middle the holes for the lacing could have probably been done better but a solid made in the USA shoe. I use mine more for casual everyday shoes. There is plenty of room but note that I decided to use parallel lacing because I'm not using them for exercise.

My previous active shoes, the NB M990v3, wore out much too quickly and began losing their shape ( and support) after only a few months, so I bought this v4 version with some hesitation. Well, so far, so good. The fit it excellent, and after a month or so of walking, sometimes a couple of miles at a time, support and structural integrity seems to be holding up very well. Of course it's too early to say what the shoes will be like six months from now.

We have purchased this shoe model for the last 4 pairs of shoes for my son. The shoe is comfortable and historically has worn well. He wears them every day of the week. For this purchase, my son had moved up into a mens' size. While the shoe is comfortable, the rubber piece on the toe has separate from the shoe in less than one month.

Well constructed shoe esp for overpronator. Felt shoe was too heavy for a running shoe and not worth the higher price over the NB 840 v3 ($119). Fit true to size in length and in width (B)

I have been wearing the 990 series for it seems 40 years. It is the only NB shoe that fits correctly. I wear a 8 1/2 4E and the other non USA made NB do not fit the same. My only complaint is that it is the most difficult shoe to lace. Black on black is very difficult. Otherwise the shoe seems good. 1 day does not make a complete review lets hope they last as long as the others.

Wonderful shoe; I want it to work. My usual size is 13 4E in 928's and 813's, but they're made on the SL2 Last. This 990 is made on the SL1 Last which has a narrower toe box. I wanted a cushioning shoe, but one where I can put the cushion on top of my orthotic. Not enough room in the toe box for both. I wish NB made the 990 on a SL2 Last. Until then, I will wear it with just the orthotic

I brought the 990 again because these shoes have great support and I have wide feet too (4E).
When I purchased my first pair in 2015 and the uppers outlasted the soles (which is usually not my case). I knew just which shoe I wanted again - the 990. I just wish they had my color - blue!

I normally fit a New Balance 12-12.5 4E, but the 12 4E felt more like a 13 4E and were just too loose in the toe box. Thanks to Zappos though for a friendly return policy that gives me the confidence to try again!

These are well made, fit as advertised, and arrived promptly. They are not as cushiony as I had hoped, they are by no means hard on the foot, just not as soft as I'd hoped. I will keep them and have used them for general exercise and they performed well, actually very supportive. Though not advertised as such, the soles are non skid. Overall a fine shoe.

The feel of your feet on the inner soles of the shoe do not feel particularly smooth. They are not as "cushy" as NB running shoes - and they should be. They are too expensive. I have worn New Balance for 15 years, but I will look at competitors before I buy again.

For years, New Balance has been the only brand of shoes that fit my 4E feet correctly. More specifically, the US made 990v3 fit me like a glove. I was excited to get my hands on the latest revision, and for the most part the V4 doesn't disappoint. As usual, the materials and workmanship are unparalleled. The suede is luscious and the soles are solid. The biggest change from the V3 is the length of the tongue and the lace locks -- I had to lace them a few different ways until I found them to be comfortable. My biggest and only complaint is that the 4E doesn't feel quite as wide as the V3's. This is an issue I encounter with non 990 models, I have to go a half to a full size bigger to compensate for this. I ordered my true size from newbalance.com, and they're a bit snug at the base of the toe box. I would recommend going at least a half size bigger if you're a 4E. Otherwise, the 990v4 is well crafted and, of course, supremely comfortable.

Shoes are stiff, noisy with orthotics, they DID NOT hold up over time. They are now painful!
