This model of athletic shoes was not comfortable. The toe box was too narrow for my feet and the shoe itself did not have enough support and cushioning comfort for my feet. For anyone with metatarsal pain this is not the shoe for you. Also, I do not like the slip-on feature and the way the shoe laces had to be tucked into the shoe.
I'd also recommend:
Perhaps Asics sneakers would be more comfortable

Very supportive quality shoe. However the front right shoe had wrinkles in the soft material that was obvious. I figured it was a defect or not. I thought I’d try to wear them to see if the wrinkles would go away on their own if not send them back for the defect. Which is what I ended up doing.

I bought 2 sizes, my usual size 11 was much too small and tight and next size up a 12! was uncomfortable. Too bad because I like the style and ease of shifting from trail to street.

These shoes have a good amount of arch support, but I wouldn't recommend them if you already wear custom inserts. I wear a 7.5 in street shoes and 8 in sneakers and I was glad I didn't have to size up to accommodate my inserts. The shoes aren't too narrow and they have a really wide toe box as compared to other sneakers that tend to taper at the toes which isn't great for you when you run. Unfortunately, when I had them on and my inserts I had too much arch support so I had to send these back.

I love my XR Mission originals- this version (3) runs small, toe box is more narrow and the heel base is also more narrow than the original. I need to reorder a half size larger and think narrowing the shoe overall is a big design error on Salomons’ part... why mess with perfection? But the biggest flaw in this design is narrowing the heel base- a wide heel base really helps stability over rough terrain.

I've had several pair of Solomon's before. I like the arch support in this shoe and it's a comfortable shoe. I wish it had the Ortho insole, as that keeps the shoe comfortable for all day use.

Had to return. I don't care for the lacing, prefer regular shoe laces. Also the top of the shoe was too high on the outside edge and rubbed my foot. This would have caused problems for me.

Fit perfectly EXCEPT for the arch area - idk what Solomon did, but the arch area for me is way too over-formed. Very disappointing as Solomon had become my favorite active shoe. I put these on, stood up, instant pressure point on outer most side of arch.... hard to describe... but knew right away the form was not right. i removed the removable insole, no help. I have very high arches and all these decades later of extensive walking and hiking have never needed, or suffered from lack of, special arch support. i purchased solomon hiking boots at the same time as these (x ultra mid 2 gtx) - same problem. Favorite brand - lost. Darn! I hope they reconfigure the arch area.

I have been a faithful Salomon shoe wearer for 15 years. I wear a 10 1/2 in street shoes and always ordered an 11 in my Salomon's. Thru out the years they have always been a perfect fit. My newest pair of X-Mission 3's are a different story. my 11's are shorter. I've actually measured them against old pairs. I'm going to try the next size up, which, unfortunately is a 12,as most shoe companies don't offer 11 1/2. The jury is still out.

Like another reviewer, I have been a Salomon fan for years but have learned, yet again, that different styles fit differently. Now that I review the picture closely, I can see that the toe box is smaller. And, when I set this pair next to the XPRO 3D, they are visibly shorter, too. The good news is that Zappos makes the returns easy, including a nice reminder to re-package the shoes as you would like to receive them - which saves us all money in the long run.

I've been a Salomon shoe buyer/trail runner for 13 years. When the XR Mission was introduced I purchased them and found all my running ailments disappeared. They were perfect, 10 mm drop, heel and toe cushioning for the heel and mid strike of a true fast trail runner. Plenty of airflow for longer hot footed runs, a wider toe box and higher arch for those of us who have a REALLY hard time finding a shoe that balances both. I ran through 8 pairs of these awesome shoes...then I purchased the X Mission 3, since I could no longer find the XR Mission 1. To my feet's surprise these shoes were not the same, my back, knees and hips began to ache... I thought it was my gait, my age, too many miles, not enough recovery time, but I never thought it might be the shoe. Well... I mistakenly put on my last worn out pair of XR Mission 1 and magically after my run, my body didn't yell at me! I decided to experiment, I wore only those shoes for the next month of runs. I found, no hip/knee pain, no "hot feet", no agonizing lower back pain... hmmmm. For the next month I used my newer X Mission 3's... UHG! I had to go back to the XR's. I'm now on a search for a new shoe. Tried the Speedcross and the Speedcross in wide, they're to stiff/narrow in the toe box, and the wide is too wide in the heel and arch. Please bring back the XR Mission 1 construction... whatever was changed in the X Mission 3 makes my body sad! Thanks... A long time Salomon trail shoe, hiking boot and ski boot lover!!!!

This is a good looking shoe. But the lacing system is annoying and something about the footbed aggravated a neuroma. I will keep trying.....

Worst lace-up system ever! But that can be fixed. It’s the stitching flaw on the toe of the left shoe I can’t live with.

Well, they seemed to size and they seemed well made, but otherwise, ugh. They are the anti-comfort, with weird, purposeless formations in the footbed and they made my feet move oddly. Never really felt anything quite like it. (Yep, they're going back.)

These shoes look great and are incredibly durable but they are very uncomfortable on my feet. If I go a while without wearing them, my feet get very sore after trying them again. They have lasted through many adventures and many trails. Just not very comfortable or supportive.

I really wanted to like these shoes;they were exactly what I was looking for in a travel hiking shoe that was neutral enough to wear with other casual clothes on an extended trip. However the lacing system drove me crazy just wearing them around my house; it was extremely long and not easy to tuck into the pocket. The tongue was very large due to the lace pocket. Also, the lack of the extra eyelet to cinch the heal made them slip and was the final reason for my return.

Weren't comfortable. They made my feet turn inward that caused my arches to ache. They also fit a little large for a size 9 but a tad small for 9.5. Loved the look of them but had to return them.

I wanted to love these shoes. They were so comfortable but OMG!!!! I can't even put into words how much I hate the lacing system. What a hassle. I would have kept these if they had regular laces.

I have been a looong time fan of the old Salomon XR Mission W, which is unfortunately discontinued and replaced by the X Mission 3. This shoe is much narrower in the toe box, which is unfortunate for people like me with wider feet. I am a C in width yet this shoe is too tight, even with thin socks, and causes pinched nerves, which are painful. Plus the sizing is different. If you were a 7.5 in the XR Mission W you will be an 8 with the X Mission 3. I tried a larger size and slightly fatter sock to pick up more room in the toe area only to have the arch support just slightly off. Only recommended for narrow feet. PLEASE, Salomon, bring back shoes with the wider toe box.

Very weird shaped shoe and the laces don't help. The front of the foot was nice and spacious; however, the overall quality reminded me a a cheaper Target Champion shoe. I normally wear Asics, however since they began outsourcing to overseas their shoe quality has changed dramatically. Definitely not for me...but may be right for you!

I bought my 1st 4 pairs in 2014 - they had a tapered toes. Now the toe is rounded. I wish there was not this large change. Maybe a new manufacturer. I absolutely loved (and still love) my old 2014 version. Why change a great thing?
