This was second Arc'teryx product, the first being the Bora 80~90L bag. I was looking for a summer camping pant that was light that i could wear mainly at night. I have now taken these pants on several camp trips. The Rampart is unbelievably light! At first i thought they would tear but after many scrapes from rocks or bushes or trees not even a scratch is on them. Pockets are decent but i don't generally hold too much in them. They dry off super fast. Great fit on the waist belt buttons are perfect no defects. Overall the best pant purchase! Looking forward to my next Arc'Teryx invesvestment!!! Cheers

Breathable fabric is a must for a three season pant like the Rampart, and this pant achieves this and much more.
While some reviews might point out the lack of pocket closures (zippers, velcro, etc.) this was a big plus for me and keeps the weight to the bare minimum and maintains a more sophisticated look and less of an "outdoorsy" appearance when around town.
The texture of the fabric drops wrinkles well, making this an excellent pant for traveling and still keeping a refined look in town or on the crag.

I bought these pants a few years back and have taken them to on every climbing trip since. The do not restrict any movement, breath very well, and are extremely durable. Today they still look brand new, and are the most comfortable pair of climbing pants I have.

I am not a synthetic pants guy. I don't wear mountain-ish looking clothing out and about. I never ever ever thought I would buy into a pair of super lightweight packable pants, except as a last resort backup for my pack.
Until I found these. I won't lie, I bought these based on a youtube video in which ex-MARSOC Marine, Blackwater Operator and MagPul CEO Travis Haley showed them off as part of his survival kit. If you know Travis, you know that even his survival kit will look bad awesome. These pants... look... awesome.
I wore these out in public -- as in not in the mountains -- a couple times and did not feel weird at all. The swish-swish of the synthetic material is the only thing that I would consider a drawback -- but I won't let that take a star away since most people probably aren't worried about the tactical aspect of these pants.
These are always packed in my 3 day pack, except when I take them out and wear them a couple times. Oh, and they clean up quick and easy -- it's almost creepy.

These pants, I recommend highly to climbers. They aren't only light, flexible and packable, they hold up exellently to abrasion. No matter if you are stuck on a boulder problem, leading a 5.13, or on the face of El Cap in 100 degree weather, these pant's will pull through for you when all others don't.
My favorite features are the articulated knees, seat, and crotch, these allow the pants to move the way you want them to. I've slipped on the wall and scraped the knees plenty of times, and they still show no signs of weakness. not only are these pants tough and flexible, they are extremely light and compressible. I've had to squeeze these things into pockets on my pack the size of my fist. And with little effort these pants always fit. They are nearly immaculate, and beside all other traits these pants wick moisture and keep you cool.
These are the go- to pants in my arsenal, I take them anywhere and everywhere. If it's cost you're concerned about, I can assure you, it's absolutely worth every penny. Thank you so much Arc, for another piece of completely unmatched, no doubt consumate clothing. You never fail us.

Very similar to the other reviewer here,
I have owned two pair of these pants concurrently since about 2006.
I have done, and continue to do, everything in them.
Living right near Big Sur, here in California,
I am either muddy, ocean-wet, sandy or dusty 3-4 days a week,
in my Ramparts. Even butt-scooting down rock, with lots
of dry scrapping on all parts of the pant,
I have yet to see any true failure of this textile.
I have nicked and ripped these pants plenty, but the holes have never grown.
Scrapes are amazingly subtle on the surface, even though I may be bleeding beneath (think knees and thighs).
My favorite part about the Ramparts?
They usually end up doubling as my office pants the-morning-after.
Throwing them off before bed, even just on my carpet,
they are dry - and with a few shakes and a wipe - clean in the morning.
Oh, and hey, I'm wearing them right now in my office.
As far as look and fit, well, they cut a beautiful line.
If only Men's suits could be made this way (wink wink, Veilance).
This goes to say that every other year when I go to buy another Rampart,
I try on everything else possibly similar.
But, like every other year, I leave with only the Ramparts.
A big deal for me is the fit between the Butt/Crotch/Waist -
basically the seat of the pant.
At 5'11, 175lbs with a 30-32 waist, these are the only pants
that allow me the greatest range of motion
with the most ease - while not being reliant on elastic material.
One pair is 30, the other is 32. With the parallel double snap option for the waist, this allows for what seems to be 4 sizes -
perfect for sleek skinny adventures, or under layers and gear.
This leads into the most important part:
being a guy and dealing with a crotch.
As an avid adventurer, I find myself usually 'going commando'
when gear or extreme weather isn't involved,
as I've discovered this is most advantages for basic ocean/trail stints.
When I first wore a pair of these, I questioned the relatively high crotch seam.
But what I quickly realized is that the higher that seam is, the more range of
motion one has. And because this is just a little higher than what might be usual, it's in fact surprisingly comfortable when 'dressing to the right' or 'dressing to the left', with absolutely zero chaffing.
Though, as urban wear, it could look rather bulgy.
Will have to be your decision.
As far as pockets, the other reviewer is correct that the
side pockets are a garbage chute when reclined.
Oh poo.
However, the cargo pockets more than make up for this;
needing good range of motion, I rarely put much in my
side pockets anyway, as this can cause painful compression on the lower waist area.
And for the very simple and sleek folded design of the cargo pockets,
nothing has ever fallen out. Ah, the freedom of no velcro, zippers or buttons.
They're like Origami pockets!
So, if you try these on and they fit you,
know that you will be happy with them for a long, long time.
Peace,
JG

Now my go-to travel pants for airplane travel, and walking around in a vacation or business destination. Light weight, easily washable. I have big thighs (former oarsman) and fit is true but snug and comfortable. The pockets seem to work, and I keep my wallet in the deep front pocket. The pants have a tailored look and fit in well with dark shoes, not so much with white sneakers.

All around a great contender!! Used these pants for hiking, bike riding, and even used them on weekends for work surprisingly enough. They are very durable for what they are, and also lightweight and breathable. Personally I'm extremely glad I bought these and looking for another pair now... But they're sold out lol ! Go figure?
Thanks Arcteryx, keep up the good work !

I have the older version and now the newer version. Liked both versions. I took one of each pair on a three week trek in the Altai Mountains. Both pairs were great. Light, breath well and easy care. I liked the newer fabric more than the old. Seemed to be less noise from the fabric as it brushed against itself. Liked the thigh pocket design of the old style better. Top opened pocket was useful and larger pockets. Please with both for my use.

I have two pairs of the previous version, which were very popular, based on a lot of reviews. The previous version is looser fitting and has a heavier, stiffer fabric that doesn't breathe very well, if at all. They're great for bushwhacking and blocking the wind, but as the temperature rises, they can become uncomfortable. They are a specialty pant for me, only useful when temps are above freezing but below the mid forties. It it's in the twenties, a base layer is a must, unless you like the feel of cold nylon.
The new version is snugger at the hip and thighs. I like the closer fit myself, but try on a pair if you're not sure. The mesh pockets should solve the heat problem, but they also mean that the new version is much more of a warm weather pant. If you don't want mesh pockets, you have to get one of the cotton blend pants like the Bastion, which are much better cold weather pants.
I miss the rear pocket flap for wallet security reasons, but that's a minor point. These are going to replace my Patagonia pants. They have pretty much the same features, but the material and build quality is much better. These aren't quite light enough to replace my summer weight Ex Officios, but if Arcteryx comes out with such a pant, I will buy them.

One of the lightest pants I have owned. The fitting is great but I expect it to have some bigger pockets as they are made for hiking.

I bought these trousers before heading off on a three month forestry internship on the island of Principe. In my initial search i was put of by the reviews comparing it to previous generations but i went ahead anyway. I'm so far seven weeks in and have been wearing them near daily. They have been covered in mud and washed nearly three times a week and have held strong. I use them for everything, hiking, climbing, tree climbing they are just my go to pants. Great pants cant recommend more.

The Rampart pants are a great buy. They do everything I need them to do and more. The pocket configuration is well done and the fit is spot on. My only complaint is that they are noisy. The Terratex fabric is fantastic, it just has that one drawback. If you want a casual pant for around the town I'd recommend some other fabric in the pants like in the Bastions and Cronins. In the end I love them, I just wish they were quieter.

It is Comfortable, breathable ,quick dry and repell water. I tried the old version in hiking, ku Fu, work, round town. It manages moisture very well. Never feel heat "ball" inside the pants in intense exercise. After getting wet in light rain, it drys within 10-15 min!! I tried Vaude, Col., Mountain. ..... . They can never provide functions of such kind.
Waiting for new version which is still not avialable in my home city.
Cons: Same as the previous reviewer. Lacking of pocket velco. Waist size bother me much.

I have a couple pairs of the rampart shorts which have quickly become my favorite shorts. I picked up a pair of the Rampart pants secondhand and they perform as expected. They're nice and lightweight and breathable. They pack down really small as well. Possibly my favorite feature of these pants is that they're able to repel small amounts of water. They're not going to replace your rainpants, but in the event of a light rain or a wet bike seat, you're not going to get soaked through. Even though these are long pants, I still enjoy a wide range of motion when wearing them. I have not yet gone on a bushwhacking adventure to test their durability, so I can't provide feedback on that.
The side pockets are not the best at holding things in when you're sitting down as other reviewers have mentioned. The pants also make a bit of a swishing sound when you walk, but that really isn't a big deal. Some of the other reviwers have mentioned that these don't fit true to size. I have a pair of 34 inch waist pants and they fit my 34 inch waist perfectly fine. I guess there's just some variation from pair to pair.
I don't think these pants have the versatility of their shorts counterpart. I wear my rampart shorts all the time, even if it's just out and about. The pants I just wear for active pursuits.

Appears to be an awesome pant for the purpose. Excellent mobility and design. However, I ordered 2 pair of size 30 as I have a 30" waist and the pants received measure 33" inside the waistband. Being synthetic, I don't expect they'll shrink, for sure not 3", so I'm going to exchange them for the correct size. Note that these pants are designed to fit just below the hip bones, so measure your waist there, not up where your true waist is. In my case, both of these measurements are the same, so perhaps this is unusual and a typical male true waist of 30" has a low hip waist of 33". However, who is typical? Why not specify the true size of the pant and tell the purchaser where to measure?

I wholeheartedly agree with the other reviewer regarding the need for a size 33. There have to be a lot of other guys out there with that waist size. I went with 32's.
The pants have a nice light to medium weight, and stretch just enough. They bridge the gap from the trail or rocks to the pub. Front pockets work as long as you are upright. Nothing has fallen out of the side or back pockets yet, but I would like a little more security on one of the wallet pockets for climbing. Have not had them long enough to comment on durability, but the quality feel is there.
Again, I really like these pants and would love them with an extra inch in the waist. Please consider filling that void. Oh and the 34's were too loose...

I now own two pairs of these pants and swear by them. If I could get away with wearing them in the office every day, I would. I agree with a previous reviewer in that the front pockets lose stuff when you sit down. I have stitched along the top of the pocket 1 inch from the outside edge and this has helped dramatically. I have also installed a zip on the thigh pockets making them more secure and giving me the confidence to travel in Asia and South America without concerns over pick-pocketing.

Overall, solid pants. Quick drying and durable for sure. Agree with other reviewers about the cargo pockets; def miss the double pocket on the right and previous versions pockets were deeper. Can't do much with the current cargo pockets. Also wish the pants used the double snap at the waist as seen in last year's shorts version of these pants. Addressing these issues would be well received by the faithful Arc customers.
