I like this bag, but the TSA compliant computer compartment reduces the capacity in the main bucket. If you want to carry bulkier items go with a Classic Messenger.

This is my 2nd Command Messenger. The small size carries all my essentials for business travel, and makes navigating TSA security a breeze. It's well made and durable. I'd like to see a few more internal pockets, and a key hasp; like my previous bags.

I am very satisfied with this bag : It is for me the ideal bag for work, leisure, weekends, travel and I take it all the time, and everywhere !
Be very carefull when you choose the delivery mode : In France the delivery was a real nightmare : UPS is the worst carriers : very expensive, not friendly, not reliable... and I hope Timbuk2 will offer others carriers for a next order.

Received this bag as a gift from my wife over a year ago. It has held up very well and I like the business-like, rather than bicycle-messenger look to my briefcases. This looks the Wall St-part. The only drawbacks are the terribly designed front hooks. As articulated in other reviews, they are EXTREMELY difficult to open when the bag is loaded-- you can't unhook them at all unless the bag is laying flat. Very inconvenient and time consuming. When you pay this much for a bag, you shouldn't have to struggle in order to open it. But, the darn thing looks good and holds up well. The hooks may be a small inconvenience to be tolerated in order to have a great briefcase.

New colors are great--currant color is professional and looks like maroon (university color that I work for). Love the height, more rigid structure (compared to other messenger bags), and the compartments.
This model has heavy-duty plastic hooks--no longer metal :( So far they hold up, but unsure about longevity. -- large/wide cell phones (esp with case) will struggle or NOT fit in the easy access zipper pockets :( I'm making do, but disappointed that iphone 6plus with otterbox won't fit any easy access zipper.
I don't cycle to work but I like messenger bags (vs briefcases), and can't find the ideal messenger style bag. This one met most of my requirements so I'm really enjoying it.
My ideal bag would be this Command Messenger but also...
1) I'd prefer a wider main compartment as this gets narrow once laptop and compartments are used.
2) I'd prefer a wider base to make it more stable; laptop side is so skinny once you add in items to main/front compartments the bag falls forward. I'm always having to prop it away with back side facing out--not convenient for easy access, nor when there is no place to prop it up. I recommend a briefcase/messenger hybrid option for the new professionals.
3) I'd prefer the bottom (only) to be made of a more durable/washable fabric-- bag sits on the floor of bathroom (in airports), offices, kitchen, outside at the park-- it gets wet and dirty easily -- love the canvas but hard to clean!
4) I'm surprised this bag lacks a hidden/pull out waterproof cover for cycling/walking on rainy days!
These are all things I have found in other bags but haven't found in ONE bag under $200. Still for the price, the style, the organization, and durability I LOVE my new bag.

Nice bag. Would give five stars if the bottom of it were flat, but it is not. Rather than being flat it is angled. Thus, the bag will usually not stand upright unless you lean it against something. This is very odd. Not sure how this aspect of the bag's design made it into the final product. Very strange indeed.

I got the medium and my 15" mac pro laptop fits great. I think the site "fit guide" said I needed the large bag, but that seemed way too large. This works great. Still has plenty of room for my ipad in the padded compartment, too. I got the grey with navy trim bag because I wanted something professional looking but also with some character. It looks fantastic! Very stylish.
While the designer in my loves the front hooks, they are very tough to undo quickly, especially when standing and trying to open it. It is also front heavy so it wants to fall towards you when you are trying to unhook them. There is a velcro strip that seems to be to allow the front to stay closed and not do the hooks, but it isn't very effective. The front flap doesn't latch onto it very easily.
All in all, not cons enough for me to give this bag up. Just annoying. It is a lovely bag and works well for me and will for many years to come.

Wish there was one designed to sit on left hip, and it's just a bit too long and bulky to swing onto lap for train/bus sitting. I think if there was a left hip version that was just a bit shorter or more flexible it would be close to perfect.

I'm not a cyclist so while I understand the design may be geared towards how a cyclist would wear the bag, it's not quite right for my general office needs. I would like more structure in the bag primarily I would like it to stand up and not fall forwards which is what it does. I'm not a fan of the side opening Napolean pockets and would prefer a top entry zip pocket on the bag flap to quickly dump my phone wallet and keys in. Other than these issues it's a very good bag. Love the TSA split function for laptops at the airport.

Mainly using the bag to carry iPad Pro 9.7 and occasionally with a laptop. The bag is built with excellent quality, but the rigidity of the bag (for the protection of laptop) could become its deficiency when you only carry the iPad Pro (lack of flexibility) though my bag is already of the small size. Overall, it is still a great piece of work.

This is my third commute style laptop messenger from Timbuk2. I like the upscale style and refined fabric of the Command. I was also looking for a smaller bag than the medium sized Commute Messenger I was carrying because the number of work documents that I carry has diminished over time and the medium Commute had become just too big. However, the small version of the Command is truly small. With adapters and and cords in the small pockets, there's not much room left in the main compartment for anything but a notebook and some papers. I find myself wishing now for a size halfway between the medium and the small. I love the fact that the velcro strips can be suppressed (I haven't used the velcro closures at all). I also don't mind the new metal clips that secure the flap. The optional cross-strap for cycling is nice and the one-pull access to the laptop sleeve is very quick and convenient. Overall, I am very happy with this third time around for a laptop messenger. I just wish the small version had a slightly larger main compartment.

I use this bag every day for work. I fly almost every week and this is a great bag with the suitcase connector and TSA approved laptop sleeve so I don't have to remove my laptop when going through security.
I wish I'd purchased a small - the medium is too big and I can't get the strap to sit right on my shoulder so that the padding is on my shoulder and not on my chest. The compartments are all changed from the last version. I love the side pocket for the cord, but miss the small zippered front pockets where I used to keep hair ties, chap stick and headphones. I don't like that the hooks are attached to the top flap rather than the bottom because they're really hard to quickly unhook when I'm on the go - though it's nice not to have the dangling hooks when they're undone.
Finally, I wish that this bag came in a more feminine style. It's kind of bulky and the colors seem very masculine. I want all of the practicality of this bag with a slightly more feminine edge - not hot pink or anything, just a little cuter!

I purchased this bag for job interviews and commuting with my laptop. I have a 13.3" MacBook Pro and am a short (4'11") individual. It was suggested that I purchase a medium sized bag because of my computer size. Medium was far too large, both for my body size and my computer. I returned and purchased a small, which has easily more than enough room for my computer, it could likely hold a 15" with ease.
This bag is best to carry many flat items, or items that can be squished. The best part is definitely the multiple compartments that are accessible without having to open the main compartment of the bag, which was great for air travel. Overall I'm very happy with the bag, but if an even smaller version existed I believe my computer would still fit and would be easier for me to carry. I commute by bike and tried this bag once but found it much more inconvenient than the panniers I typically ride with, so will only be using it for non-bike days to work.

Love this bag for work. Wish there was a larger slot for at least a 32 oz hydroflask. The main compartment is a bit small once you get into it, but I love the computer compartment. Overall, I love it. My Patagonia Half Mass is more roomy, but this is more structured.

I bought this bag for traveling to and from work. It's a very well designed bag. So many different compartments for phone, tablet, wallet, etc that you can access without opening the main compartment. I love it.

Excellent bag for work, travel, etc. Light, high-quality, durable. My only warning to issue is that this bag is in fact black; the pictures may suggest it is some deep groovy brownish color, but it's not. Black. That's what it is. Fantastic bag.

I use the bag for daily commuting. I really like it, but, find the main compartment just a little bit too narrow for its size. I think it's a pretty big bag, and should have a bit more room inside. Not a great deal, just a bit. Plenty of compartment space for my stuff.

I love this bag after about a month. The metal clips are sometimes finicky to get out of the loops, but I have no complaints otherwise. Love the abundant pocket space.

This is my third Timbuk2 bag, and they have always served me well. My only disappointment is that this color isn't offered in large. My MacBook Pro fits fine, but I have to use another bag for my 17" laptop.

Used daily for work and travel via all means of transport.
Overall a great design. Improvements for me would be as follows:
- More space in the main compartment. It is slightly thinner from back to front, from the classic messenger so difficult when I really want to fill the bag with bulkier items.
- The inner compartments are now on the back wall, which I partially like. Problem arises if you try to put anything flat (like a magazine, or book). Since there is not a flat surface for the book to sit against, it gets bent out of shape. Work around is to put the book with your computer, but a large book makes it difficult to fit. Maybe some type of inner wall like the old messenger with a space for laptops had. So a back wall with compartments, an inner stiff material wall/divider, space for storage, then pockets on the inner and outer part of the front wall.
-Another pocket on the other side of the flap, and another small pocket on the front outside of the flap between the clasps.
-the older style luggage slip on the back, that could be used as a kind of pocket, would be preferable, but new one is functional for what it's intended purpose.
- bag doesn't lay flat on its base, it flops forward. An easy design fix.
-the new flap clasps are ok, but I do miss the backpack style clips, and the ability to loosen the straps and then lock and cinch down the straps after stuffing the bag. I understand the want for a cleaner look, but maybe use some innovation like the shoulder strap, just smaller.
Other than that, the bag is really amazing. Worth every penny!

I use this bag to commute to work. I like all the extra pockets- like the one in the flap and on the front sides. It fits everything I need but there are not enough organization pockets inside. I would like some elastic pockets on the inside. I haven't found a good place to store my keys- there is no closure to the small square pocket in the front so my keys keep falling out.

Use for everyday commute for work and carrying an iPad.
Only dislike is that there are not enough compartments in the main big space. Would be great if there is one more separation/ compartment there.
