This boot is near perfection: very stable laterally, soft foot bed, light in weight, super gripping sole, really a dream for us compulsive footwear lovers. You have really outdone yourself, Hoka. I hike on a trail that has imbedded
rocks so I need a super stable boot.
HOWEVER! Consider adding a "WIDE" size option. The toe box area is a bit tight for those of us who have wide feet and/or high arches.
Thank you for this outstanding and stellar piece of foot art, Hoka. This is a world-class product.

I have very bad Knees that need replacing and I am hoping to delay that as long as possible. Yesterday we hiked Camel's Hump in VT a 4000 ft mountain. Fairly easy climb but the descent is what kills the knees and today my knees feel pretty good. The cushioning seems really good!

Bought these in a 9 to match my Hoka Running shoes, but ended up shipping back to get a 9.5. I could have survived with the 9, but that half size up feels great with socks and sock liner combined. I've only done one hike in these, so early days, but they are unique boots. They are very light, very comfy and have far more support than my "normal" hiking boots. I also think I could do trail runs in these. They look like they would be heavy but they are light and once laced up truly conform to the feet. My feet are narrow but things are okay when I've got these laced snuggly. Am looking forward to several summit hikes in June. The first real test worthy of mention.

I'm using these boots for uniformed law enforcement. The only complaint is the suede surface rather than a smooth one - but I knew that when I bought them.

Love the boot but had to return my first pair after discovering a workmanship flaw in the front stitching of the left boot. It is pricey but it provides a level of comfort and support I need post foot/ankle trauma. For my need its worth the cost.

Light and sturdy, need a bit of break in time but waterproof as advertised. Use for exercise walking in snowy environment. Good traction and warm.

Was disappointed in the traction since most vibram soles are better.

Very interesting concept, very light. Durability remains to be seen.
Please please please make your toe boxes bigger!
Also, the lacing running down to the tip of the toe is completely extraneous and smells like a "designer" decision. Who would want to crank on their laces and smash their toes together?

The boot looked promising but had to send it back was not wide enough, hopefully you'll make more items EE size like the new shoe.

This is my second review after having these boots for a little over a month. I've hiked at least 100 miles so far on some rough terrain. Mt Wilson, Mt Baldy, and now Mt Whitney. I did 18 miles on my Whitney hike in one day, up 3500 ft, down 6000 ft, on some of the roughest rocky terrain I've been on. I slipped maybe twice, had a couple of times where my ankle rolled, and had a single blister. Honestly I don't think the boot exists that will make your feet feel perfect after a hike like I just did, but these were the best so far. boots could have a little more room in the toe box and I find it hard to get them tied in such a way as to really keep your heel in place when you are going downhill. Still, I was in pain after the hike, but have recovered after a good night resting. Ankle support, great. Traction, great. One bad thing is that the soft sole might not handle the repeated punishment of the granite of the high Sierras like some other shoes. I wore them down some and the sole seems to be very weathered in places. Time will tell. Overall, these are great and I can't wait to see what else these guys do for my feet with their products.

First impression is great. They feel comfortable and there is good support available through the ankle as well as offering a sturdy platform like it will be hard to roll.
Right off the bat I looked at the sole- its a more durable vibram sole than some of its running counterparts, which for me start to break down much much quicker than a similarly priced competitor shoe. (however, Hokas are so comfortable its worth it).
Overall they look great, and I can't wait to really test them. Planning on taking them up Mt. Blanca and Mt. Longs here in the next 2 weeks. Ill update the review after.

Had them less than 2 years. Used them a reasonable amount but not a ton. Material ripped, soles got all ripped up, didn't hold up nearly as well as I expected.

These are very comfortable boots for hiking in dry weather. I purchased these in 2-1/2 years ago and have taken many 5-10 mile hikes on trails. The boots still look almost brand new. I am disappointed to recently discover that these boots ARE NOT waterproof. The right boot allowed water to seep in between the sole and the leather at the heel, but there are no visible cracks or holes. These boots are too expensive to not be waterproof at the heel and no way to repair or replace since they are out of warranty. Be wary and don't expect these boots to perform as marketed. I now have to buy a different pair of boots for rainy conditions, not Hoka. Will look at Merrell since my wife's Merrell boots remained dry while hiking the same trails.
I'd also recommend:

Too bad as I want to give these a five star, but I just can't because they are "not waterproof!" I have had four pairs of these boots, and I have hiked three Camino de Santiago's with them, 530 miles, 630 miles, and 445 miles, and have loved them, but they did not stay dry in the rain. Other than the waterproof issue they were super comfortable and could be worn right out of the box. They support you ankles, and because the high tops, keep most of the debris out.
I also use them to walk 10-14 miles a day, three to five days a week to stay in shape and to condition for my upcoming treks. Even though they are not waterproof I bought two more pair for my upcoming trek the length of New Zealand, from the bottom of the South Island to the top of the North Island, approximately 1,200 to 1,400 miles. I have been getting about 500 to a maximum of 600 miles out of these boots.
People have asked me why is still use them when they are not waterproof, but for me, they have been the most comfortable boots that I have every used. I had used many different brands on over the years, and especially on my 1,400 mile trek from my home in Southern California to Canada, and at the end I preferred these. These boots are not the most ridget for carrying heavy weight, tough climbing or support, but again, for me the most comfortable. What I have been doing to help with the waterproof issue has been to spray them with a waterproofing silicon that repeals the water and rain, and therefore keeping the boots much drier.
If you want a good comfortable boot, and are not to concerned about a 100% waterproof boot, you'll love these.

These boots are light and very comfortable, but they are not waterproof. The tongue stretches almost down to the end of the toe box and it is NOT waterproof. That means that a walk through wet grass lets in water. The rest of the boot may well be waterproof, but they are designed to actually let in water since the tongue is so long.

Had high hopes, but product was too expensive and quite frankly just not comfortable. Look like moon boots - neutral. Also, I really do have concerns about durability. I returned them after a couple of 5 mile hikes that left my felt feeling exhausted.

Was looking to reduce impact under pack loads. Hoka sole cushioning and adapting gait to make use of rocker sole did dramatically reduce impact and relieved sore ankles. The caution I would offer prospective buyers is that the sole is not uniformly stiff. I think this results from the way the fabric under the outside edges of the foot bed curves up into the side wall with a large radius. This produces greater pressure under the outside edges of the foot than elsewhere. With 45 pounds and a hour of hiking this pressure became a painful nuisance. Several attempts at break-in and better foot conditioning did not alleviate this effect. For heavy loads I'm inclined to favor a perfectly flat and uniformly stiff sole associated with more traditional hiking boots. I think the best use of the boot is for trekking and situations where the load is around 25 pounds or less, although I have not explored the exact weight break point at which the sole stiffness becomes problematic. I intend to keep the boots but will not use them for longer backpacking trips. Without a heavy pack, I find them to be comfortable, effective at reducing impact, stable and secure.
