I purchased this jacket because I wanted a longer jacket with generous down insulation. North face doesn't give the fill weight of its jackets on its website, but based on industry reviews of other, similar north face jackets (i preferred the styling of the elbert) it looked like this would be a warm jacket. I've worn it in 40F+ weather with a t-shirt and polo underneath and i was cold. I have a couple jackets from uniqlo that are much warmer. The problem is only some of the baffles on the jacket have down in them! The hood has no down, only the back half of the sleeves have down and there is a big column on the back of the jacket with no down insulation. It seems clearly to be a deceptive effort to cut costs by manufacturing a partially down-filled jacket and it's disappointing that they think so little of their customers. Really an insult to anyone's intelligence and wallet. Needless to say, I'm done with north face.
Other brands I've found reliable: Rab, Outdoor Research, Uniqlo.

Not waterproof. I wore this to clear my driveway during the east coast blizzard of 2016, and when I was done, the coat was soaked through. Very disappointing and surprising. I actually had to put in the dryer before going out to clear the driveway again. Otherwise, a very warm coat.

Zipper feels jagged and broke on day one. Returned on day 2.
