Nice backpack but it is not large enough to fit the binder that my son needs to tote daily.

I highly recommend this backpack for anyone that likes to travel light and wants a backpack with a lot of space. I got this backpack based on a review from a mom traveling with her kids, as I needed a backpack for travel with my kids...and it was PERFECT. This backpack has so much more room than my other north face back pack. SO MUCH ROOM. I was surprised I could fit as much as I did and still had room for more. The compartments are better and easier to use than any other backpack I've ever owned. I had no problem wearing it comfortably for over an hour in the airport with a toddler strapped to my front side. If you're unsure which backpack to buy, get this one!

Good backpack for junior high and at least freshman year. Multiple sections helps with organization and outside pockets for water Bottles has eliminated potential for disaster.

At 27 L, this backpack is sufficient for school use (a 1 in binder, several 1.5 cm thick notebooks, a writing utensil/battery bank case, a laptop charger case, a lunch box, and a 16 fl-oz tumbler in the main compartment; a laptop with sleeve, several thin portfolio cases, and several other small items in the laptop compartment; other items such as a glasses case, lip balm, small tube of hand moisturiser, etc. in the front pocket) or commuting to the office (although since I can afford to be more stylish commuting because I don't need to carry as much stuff, I prefer the Fjllrven Rucksack No. 21 Medium). As for any TNF product, the Pivoter Backpack is also of great built, which in its case also includes great back and shoulder support and lightweight yet durable construction material.
I am not too hot about the D window for the main compartment; besides the exotic design, the left zipper can only open to the upper left position, making retrieving and storing extra wide items a bit awkward at times. I also wish the front pocket has divided compartments inside of just one storage pocket where retrieving small items a bit of a hassle and making sure the accumulated items don't all settle down to the same height and bulge out somewhat of a lost cause. I only use the side pockets to store compact non-essential items such as gum, breath mints, and snack bars, because it is useless for storing a drink container larger than a "spring" water plastic bottle. Finally, the bottom, unlike the ones found on the Surge and Surge Transit (not sure about other TNF backpacks), is non-debris repellent, so I had to apply multiple layers of Fjllrven Greenland Wax to it to make it as debris-phobic as possible.
Overall, the features, quality, size, and comfort of this backpack are great, and the complaints that I have against it don't do much to detract against its usability. Looking back though, I should have purchased the Borealis or Surge instead. But hey, they r all TNF products.

Wow do I love this backpack...great for me as a full-time professional and as a mom. I love North Face because they replace their backpacks for life if something goes wrong but beyond that I love this backpack for so many other reasons.
> The straps are very comfortable, they are wider where they meet the pack which makes for a very comfy and secure-feeling carry.
> Drink pockets are pretty deep (although maybe they could be a little deeper?) My 16oz Yeti tumbler fits perfectly in there.
> The zippers are such great quality, i can easily open and close them with one hand, even when the pockets are empty!
> I looked at couple smaller "commuter" backpacks but when I read the reviews the sleeve for the laptop would barely fit my 13" Mac Pro. Since I may have a bigger laptop someone day, i passed for the Pivoter.
> The very front zipper pocket is perfect for my wallet, extra cords etc. Good size for boarding passes etc too.
> My absolute favorite pocket is the middle one, or the one with the C-shaped zipper. Ya'll, this is clutch. First, the pocket is huge and I love there there aren't any organizing pockets, or pen pockets to tempt me to take up any of this space. I've kept a really large sunglass case, big bulky gloves, and a big pencil bag and I barely filled up a third of the pocket. The best was when I traveling with my kids, having the pocket open up all the way made it just as easy to access the stuff at the bottom as on the top.
> The top pocket is great, love that the laptop sleeve is very well padded and that the pen and organizing pockets are right there and very generously sized, too! This holds several thinner notebooks and file folders with no problem as well as my power cord etc. Large textbooks, though, this probably isn't the best option out there.
For a commuter bag, I think this is a tremendous option, lots of open space to do with as you choose and it serves multiple functions wonderfully. PS: this bag is a perfect fit for the space under the seat in front you on a plane, even on the aisle seat which always has less space then the other two seats.

I have had this backpack for over 1 year, and though it has not failed me, it is not ideal. It is difficult to put all of the notebooks/textbooks that I'll need for my classes each day along with my laptop in the main pocket. Also, due to the awkward construction of the pockets, it is nearly impossible for the backpack to sit upright by itself. That being said, it has done a superb job of keeping my belongings dry whenever I get stuck in an Alabama thunderstorm. I can imagine that it would be better suited for a student or commuter with fewer things to lug around each day.

Quality and comfort are good, but very hard to access your he main area because it is so small and does not open well. I like the jester better.

The Cobalt blue is gorgeous. I was worried it would be shiny from the picture but it's not, and the 3rd photo in the series for this color is most accurate. I had a hard time deciding between the northface styles but ultimately chose this because of the placement of the organization panel facing the back in the main compartment. I use my backpack for school and as my everyday "purse" since I use mass transit. The layout of this backpack is perfect. It's not too big, fits my laptop, tablet, a couple paperback books, some personal items, a light hoodie/sweater, with a water bottle in one side and umbrella in the other. Really well made. Super comfortable. Highly recommend, worth the extra $.

I'm a minimalist when it comes to packing for travel. I took the North Face Pivoter on a 3 week trip to Europe as my only luggage (other than my purse) and it was absolutely perfect. I liked the front opening a lot because everything was very accessible! I managed to squeeze in 3 shirts, an extra pair of jeans, a few pairs of underwear and socks, a backpacking type towel, a small toiletries bag, and a book. It was plenty roomy and even accommodated some souvenirs on the way back. I've also used it around town, and on day hikes too, so it's a good size for everyday use too.

This is good for packing for a weekend, but it is too small for all of my son's books. The front pocket zips almost all the way around, but is awkward to fit a binder in. Laptop fits nicely in the back, though. As long as you are not looking to fit a bunch of text books or binders in it, it is a very nice backpack.
