I've used this bag for both personal and work travel and commuting. It's s nice bag but lacks pockets and features that even a cheaper messenger bag has (no key hook??). If you have both hands this bag is decent but frustrating. It's shape will prevent it from standing up so make sure you tilt it right or else it will come crashing down. I'm now with it the use of my left hand, temporarily we hope. This bag is down right infuriating with one hand. Good luck getting the top to stay open with one hand and again the shape causes it to fall or side to the ground. All while trying to get something out of put a laptop in. I've almost torched the bag on several occasions. Just because of those two things. I will say it does hold up well in rain for not being weather proof. Stuff in side was damp but not wet after getting caught in a moderate downpour. I'll be selling this bag and looking for something else. It's been almost two years and the bag has held up well, but so well I can't keep the top to stay open in its own. I also had to take the strap that closed across your chest off. It was realty uncomfortable.

The bag will fit a 15" (38cm) laptop, but I cannot remove it from the back zipper. The Velcro strap that secures the laptop is not long enough to to secure it in the laptop sleeve. I think if the timbuk2 website say it fits a 15" laptop, it should include securing with a Velcro sleeve. Timbuk2 should also include a description in their spec if the bag will sit up on its end. This bag does not, not even when fully loaded. The bag will tip over because of the edge in the back of the bag that prevents it from standing up. I need the bag to stand up to save desktop space and not have the strap sitting on the floor. The front pocket net organizer is pretty useless. Thee is no Velcro strap to hold it shape. Anything I put in there falls to the bottom of the bag. I like to see a a Velcro strip to hold it up. It would be a good place to store a pen that I can quickly get to. Thought about returning the bag, but the postage to send it back wouldn't really be worth it

Having been a customer since 2012, this bag by look design and fuction excited me. No doubt when new, it was beautiful and I enjoyed using...for about a month. Then the problems and failures started to arise. First, one of the zipper straps on the back access fell off, then the coating on the fabric started to bubble. Less than 10 months after purchase the coating has either pealed or fallen off nearly 25% of the coated fabric with the other 75% bubbling in an unsightly manner. This bag ages quickly and not gracefully. Additionally, while this bag is NOT water proof, it barely puts up any resistance having had my papers and electronics get soaked a couple times in sudden squals. The leaking and soaking is so bad that I leave the bag home if there is even a hint of rain. I wish I could say this is a one time incident but since 2013 I have returned 2 other bags for quality/wear and tear issues. This will be my 3rd and likely my last, the lifetime warranty just isnt enough to justify the inconvenience. Should you choose to buy from Timbuk2, do your homework on the fabric utilized first.

Ok so this bag isint what I expected.I went into Timbuktu and I started asking question and I was told that this was waterproof but in reality it isint even water resistant.I was commuting to school in bike and ally my stuff got wet infant their was a small gathering of water in the bottom. The rain wasn't heavy but I guess the water would just fall through the fabric. All my notebooks got wet so I had to replace items and I had my laptop which also got wet but luckily I had a case on it so the case was the one that got wet because had I not I wouldn't have a laptop right now.I am really disappointed and I felt that I should write the review to inform people that it's not a good bag for commuting in small rain,I don't know if my bag is defective or what but really upset that I've had 2 weeks and already their has Been a problem.

Overall, I like the bag and was starting to get used to the storage capabilities including the limited pockets. However, after a month or so, I started noticing the back of my shirts becoming 'pilled' just above my waistline. Turns out, the rough fabric Timbuk2 uses on this bag is rough enough to tear up my clothing. Now I have a few hoodies and softer cotton shirts that are ruined because of the bag. My workaround for now is to just synch-up the straps so tight that the bag lifts off my back, but it's not exactly practical. I've been working with customer service but they are refusing to cover this under warranty. Anyone else having these issues?

I liked the look of this product but it's showing wear and snags after just a few weeks of use. I'm not sure if this was intentional but there was snagged fabric, frayed stitching. I also tried out a backpack versus using a messenger back, hoping it would be easier on my back. Which it's not, It's surprisingly heavy and when lightly full pushes into lower back causing pain even with the support strap. Adding to that, In the heat of summer, there's not a sufficient air gap to keep you cool and you will get drenched. There's nothing quite as bad as that cold wet feeling from a sweaty back especially against vinyl bus seats. They have other better bags (like the commute 2.0) , stick with them.

I purchased this bag a few weeks ago after seeing some good reviews of it online. As a bicycle commuter, it seemed to offer a lot of functionality I was missing in my prior bag. However, I had a quality issue with the bag as soon as I removed it from the packaging. The sternum strap broke the moment I attempted to unsnap it. I emailed customer service on July 23 and never heard back, and their auto-reply states that follow-up emails will send you to the end of the queue. So overall, it seems like there's a great design to the product, but it's not worth the quality issues and lack of customer support.

The zip inside scratches my lholes!!! The pocket which is located in the front pocket has bad stitching. The support team is a nightmare! Pray to to get a perfect bag and never talk with them. I have payed 100$ for the bag and + 30$ for shipping and +40$ VAT. It is OK, but I did not get the bag! I have contacted the support team and they did not responded for a week. I was very dissatisfied, but I needed the bag because I was in love with it, so I decided to buy it (again) in a shop. I thought Timbuk online shop will give back my money as I did not get anything for my 170$. Then I got an email form UPS that my bag is on the way again from Timbuk2. I asked them to refund me, because I do not need 2 bags, but they said it is not possible, only if I send back the bag. Unfortunately it would cost 100$. I am stucked here with 2 Timbuk2 Spire backpaks which cost me 300$. As a student 300$ is a fortune for me. I was a big fan of Timbuk2 because of it's quality made products and lifetime warranty. I am very disappointed. If there is a solution please contact me!
