Comfortable to wear, seems light.
Stitching started fraying within a week, and chest-strap clip broke when first opening, wouldn't seem to need it anyway, but pretty bad that it broke on first day.
Within 1 month of use, small hole appeared on bottom of bag, presumably a hard item scuffed against gravel or rough surface, so there is a hole there now.
Wouldn't recommend for anyone who needs a reliable bag for serious travel and wear and tear. More appropriate for a gentle commute or city use.

One things I wasn't happy about it is there is no one return your call or they don't have strong Custmer service they will return your call back after so long and you have call them 10 times .

I absolutely loved the look of this bag as well as the fact it was at least mostly protected from the elements for commuting in the rain. I looked at the dimensions of my current bag and this one and they seemed very similar so I purchased it. I was disappointed when I got it however that the bag was just too big height wise. I'm 5'5" and it seemed to creep up towards my neck and the straps were very stiff and uncomfortable. The padding in the back was also very stiff and awkward. The space inside the bag was also smaller than one would expect. All in all it just wasn't the one for me. I ended up returning the bag and as much as the refund took some time, the process was easy and not bothersome so the wait wasn't horrible. I ended up purchasing another bag, but not for my commute and love it.

Comfortable straps, weatherproof, and I like the style. The backpack is narrower in the middle than would seem from the dimensions, which makes stuffing it a bit difficult. The webbing provides some interesting opportunities for expansion though. A tear developed in the back padding but Timbuk2 replaced it right away. Thanks guys!

Great bag in all respects except the small pouch in the lower/outside pouch is poorly placed and snags when using the larger pouch, if that makes sense. Also, the opening is too small. Wish it was 8 x 10 or so minimum, but isn't.

I bought this bag in early 2019 and have used it since and absolutely love it, except recently accidentally got it wet without realizing and it left a massive stain on my bedspread. Just make sure to wash it or avoid getting it wet and you'll be fine.

I really love how slick and professional this backpack looks, I recently upgraded from a Jansport and I wanted to buy this backpack because of the appearance and the water-resistant. But It recently rained here in New York and a majority of my items in my backpack got wet (this includes all the items in the multiple pockets). Also, this backpack doesn't wide enough to place certain items, maybe it can fix this design flaw by eliminating some unnecessary pockets.

This pack had things going for it, unfortunately the things it had going against were greater... The main issue was the small opening to the pack. One little zipper at the top that didn't move down the sides made for a tight access point. Not a fun way to start out. Another reason this was returned was all the Velcro everywhere. In my experience, Velcro (the hook part, not the loop) destroys clothing and accessories such as scarves. It also just attracts all kinds of lint/string/fabric. The clip that fastens the main compartment wasn't as easy to use as you might expect. And while I never commuted with it in a downpour, I could easily see this pack not being waterproof. If you've got anything inside you want to stay dry (electronics, books, etc) this pack will eventually disappoint.

the bag has a nice appearance and the compartments inside are nice. the stiff and boxy frame is good for laptop safety but it makes for an uncomfortable pack. It is also not very comfortable having it on my back while cycling for more than an hour.
It has many loops which are visually appealing but I cannot see them useful for hanging many objects.
The side mesh openings are too tiny so I question their usefulness.
Overall, It is a nice looking pack but is underwhelming for comfort or commuting on a bike. If I could return it and replace it, I would do that.

Owned since Fall 2016, used for bike and train commuting. Good water-resistance, only had minor leakage during a 25 minute ride through severe rainstorm. Comfortable straps and balance for bike riding.
While the protective "frame" that runs along the exterior of the back panel is very protective in case of a drop, it means the bag will not stand on it's own unless it's packed to capacity. This makes loading and storing the bag very frustrating.
The zip pocket on the front of the bag is a nice size, however, it has an unfortunately-placed mesh pocket that is always in the way when you reach in. The mesh pocket is pretty loose, and the zip opening is kinda small, so it's always a chore to navigate your hand to the bottom of the pocket and retrieve your stuff.

It's pretty big but the small pockets get tight when the rest of the bag is full. My water bottle doesnt really fit when my computer is in the sleve. I don't use a Mac, but my 15" laptop barely fits and isn't accessible through the zipper. The velcro strap to secure it is at least 6" too short. On the other hand it IS VERY well made, just poorly desiged

I have a MacBook Pro and the iPad Pro 12.9". I also carry the power cord and brick for the Mac and a small charger and cord for the iPad amongst a few other accessories that go into one of the 2 outside pockets. Anything that goes into these pockets impedes the main opening. So putting things in the bag is cumbersome and not easy. Once everything is in the bag all is fine, but quick access for anything is usually a pain. I'm not very happy with this bag and would not recommend it. I have 3 other Timbuk2 bags that are well designed. This bag is not one of them. :(

I should have listened to my friends who told me these bags suffered quality issues. A zipper popped on me today and the bag isn't even a year in the field. Examining the zipper, I felt like the absolute cheapest zipper was chosen.
Not interested in a warranty replacement so I can go through the same thing again in 10 months. Going to look for another brand and spend the extra money this time.

I have the new Alienware 17 laptop and I was looking for a backpack that can store my laptop and the essential stuff I need every day nicely. The website said it could fit my laptop. When I actually put my laptop in, it certainly could by TAKING UP 80% OF THE SPACE. I could barely fit anymore things into the bag. And the paddling is just hard and harsh on back. No comfortable experience at all. It is really not as good as my TIMBUK2 command backpack.

- Many times I'm frustrated with locking/unlocking mechanism. It's hard to operate without looking at it properly mainly when trying to close it.
- I love the molle webbing
- The inside pocket isn't working for me as every time I'm trying to reach something inside the bag my fingers go right in the inside pocket. Not well thought through.
Overall I was really looking for this bag to be much better experience. No matter how well you do outside protection the inside is troubling you everytime you try to use it.

I travel for a living and bought it thinking it would be better than my last satchel. The waterproof and stylish features made me decide that I would like this. Instead of using one shoulder I could use a backpack and support my bag on both shoulders. I was wrong. The lack of outside pockets made things hard to get out quickly. My wallet was stolen because it was placed in a pocket but if it had a side pocket for passport and wallets that you can lock up would be great. Can't return it so now I'm stuck with it. Get another bag with more pockets. What a mistake.

I bought this for the bike commute, but el nino has rendered this bag to the summer time (ie non-moist) days commutes here in San Francisco. I had high hopes for this bag to be at least water resistant, but sadly this bag seems to be defeated by even a mild misting. Fortunately I discovered that fact before being caught in a down-pour last week. Since the first time I discovered that the interior of the bag sucks in moisture, I've been carrying a xxl zip-lock bag just in case for the laptop. That prep saved my macbook. After last weeks downpour, every interior pocket, compartment, piece of fabric basically wicker every hint of water into it. Every scrap of paper I had in there was wet, along with everything else I had stowed in the pockets. 5 days later the bag is still damp inside. Last night, I broke down and purchased an Ortlieb bag, it is kinda gross looking, but can't risk the laptop.
beyond this problem, it is a pretty functional bag.

I like the bag in general. It looks cool and feels sturdy. I got this for a trip I was taking, as well for my regular commute and needed something I could carry my laptop and my camera in with some extra's. It definitely has room for all of that, but disastrously today after getting caught in a downpour in San Francisco I discovered that everything at the bottom of the bag was soaked. I'm not sure why the waterproof fabric isnt consistent all the way around the bag. Apparently, the side lining is not waterproof at all which makes the entire bag NOT waterproof to me. Really disappointed.

I've bought it for Christmas. After more than 1 month using it, I was very satisfy.
BUT, because there is one, I just go home after a 50min ride under hailstorm, and I found my cellphone and my papers wet. What a disappointing!
I live in Brest, one of the most humid cities of France, so i was searching a true waterproof backpack. No searching enough apparently...

While I love this bag it is NOT actually water resistant. The front pocket leaks in water. The rain I got caught in the wetness in the front pocket leaked into the main bucket. Thankfully my laptop case is water resistant but everything paper in my bag got ruined.
It was not even raining that hard.
If you only are in the rain a minute it might be ok but otherwise don't count on it. Heartbroken because I was so excited about this bag.

I bought this backpack for my husband. Within a few months of regular use, the water bottle mesh pocket tore and then the inside lining began to flake. He said the one massive black hole of a locked was annoyingly He dealt with all that but MY HATRED for this product came when I borrowed it for a trip. The Velcro on the top of the bag is the sticky side of it that's outside. If the bag is not closed all the way (like if you have a lot of stuff in it) the Velcro is exposed. For me, time I tried to reach into the bag or move it, MY WOOL COAT GOT STUCK ON THE VELCRO and it pilled up. TWO DAYS traveling with this bag and it RUINED my coat! Forget the warranty, I want the company for a new coat. The Velcro is awful on top of everything else being cheap.

Ordered online. When I received it, it wasn't what I needed. No problem. Looking for right product I took a chance knowing I could return. Turns out Timbuk2 charges for returns. I would not have taken a chance on this product had I known I'd be charged.

Haven't had my spire for long, looked great once I got it. Hasn't been through crazy weather and it's basically falling apart. Holes forming and bag has never seem a fall or road rash and my laptop and other things in the bag are always in jeopardy if worn during rain or snow which it's supposedly built for but not from what I can see.

Looks nice on the surface but after a single wear (to the office), the straps are already showing signs of defectiveness and poor workmanship. The threads are coming loose in 3 locations on one of the straps. On the same strap, the mesh padding looks like it's falling off, thread by thread. After wearing this to the office--once!--I am extremely disappointed in the lack of quality with this Timbuk2 product. I have literally used this once. Terrible.
