These are the most uncomfortable shoes that I have ever purchased. I was actually in pain after wearing them. Do yourself a favor and order the Merrell Moab instead.

This is the 'newer' incarnation of Hedgehogs. I've hiked in the older version for years and, while great traction & waterproofness (gtx), they always felt a bit narrow for my wide foot. BTW: I'm a woman who always wears men's hiking shoes because of the width. These 'newer' Hogs have been made wider in the toe box & less 'sneaker-like' than the older version. Also they're higher cut up the ankle area. All updates are great! Less toe-cramping doesn't mean wider heel. On the contrary. Heal is snugger. Higher cut provides better ankle stability w/o having to wear mid-cut boots which I hate. All around firmer feel of shoe is more supportive. Tread is the same as always. Multi-directional and many lugs. Require nearly zero break in time. Same good arch support. Only complaint is cheaper, thinner removable insole. Needs better padding in metatarsal area and better heel cradle as in older insole. Just have to swap them out for better ones. If I could get a women's wide, I'd take a 9W. So in men's, I get a 7.5 reg. FYI.

I have flat feet that hurt all the time finding shoes that do not cause pain flare up is hard. These are extremely comfortable. I walk for miles without any problems I also need a total joint replacement in in one of my big toes. These also help in that department.

So far, I love them. Good fit and comfortable. I haven't had them long enough to judge durability. I like the "grippy" sole. It doesn't slide on slick surfaces the way hard Vibram does. I got them because North Face doesn't make the older model that I have had for 2 years and love so much I just got re-soled to use for dirty work. These were the closest match I could find to the old ones.

I agree with anonymous... these shoes offer no comfort at all. They are basically flat and have no padding. I miss the old XCR's which were the best pair of North Face shoes I ever had. Who would produce such an uncomfortable shoe? I had such high hopes.

Good fit and glad it was a little wider than expected. A very stable shoe. The insert is too firm. Just two words, memory foam people! OK three words. With all my minutes of experience as a shoe design engineer I think all shoes should have memory foam inserts. We should all stand together...in comfortable shoes...and demand memory foam inserts! I do like the shoes and would buy again.

Bought these to replace a pair that I had from 8 years ago(different model) For starters they are just as comfortable as the previous pair I owned. The sole is grippy and the toe rubber was a nice touch on the new version. They are a tad bit bigger though. Previous were an 11 and fit perfect these were also an 11 but probably could have fit into a 10.5 Overall good shoe for the price. Ive never been disappointed with The North Face and these are no exception.

I purchased 3 pairs of hikers from Zappos to pick the one's that I liked best. It was these Hedgehogs, a pair of Salomans and a pair of Ahnu's. When I tried them all on, there was no comparison, these shoes were the most comfortable hands-down. Had em a few weeks now and love them.

These shoes are light and comfortable. The Vibram sole is flexible and grippy. I found I needed to get them a half-size larger than usual. The Gore-Tex makes them a bit warm, however.

Without a doubt these are the best shoes I have ever bought. They are very comfortable in every respect. They are very stylish as well. From the moment I put them on they felt as broken in and comfortable as an old pair of shoes. I've had them about a week and they are extremely durable and versatile. No matter what I do they remain up to the task and they perform well. I've no idea who makes the shoes for The North Face but whoever it is they are making an excellent shoe. I would not hesitate to highly recommend these shoes to someone else.

Overall a nice roomy shoe with good overall support for average feet. However, if looking for arch support (for over-pronation etc) I would advise replacing the insoles with an orthotic set. The boots are a little hard on the feet at first but from previous experience with the brand, they will soften with wear. One minor niggle with the design is that the stitching at the back of the heel is exposed so will probably rub and cause blisters if you do not insert some kind of protection or cover them over.

Really like how comfortable they are. Would have liked a 13.5 wide and have to buy 14 wide so my toes don't get pinched. But this is a complaint I have of every manufacturer and not The North Face. I am happy. Most shoes I have to send back if they aren't wide. Nice color AND the laces stay done up. Thats a big plus in a shoe.

Purchased these shoes prior to a hiking trip to Utah (Bryce Canyon and Zion). We hiked at least twice a day for a week, with some hikes being 7-9 miles in length. Shoes felt good and had excellent grip regardless of trail type.

I have hiked in these shoes from day one. My hikes have included cold weather, hot weather, flat terrain, water crossings, rocky terrain, and very steep terrain. I have owned them for about 6 months. I used to wear a Merrill Moab Waterproof, and these are superior. First, you should be aware that these have very little cushion in them, I was surprised to see that and it turned me off at first, until I started to wear them. I was shocked to find them very comfortable despite the lack of padding. The best compliment I can give a hiking shoe is that they simply vanish, meaning you forget about them while you're wearing them because they just work perfectly. They are lighter than the Merrills, which is a big advantage. They are also very tough, I have not been gentle on them and they are holding up like a champ. My main draw to them was the metal lace loops, something you don't find on many low rise hiking shoes. The GoreTex is fantastic, waded through a stream recently, socks were bone dry, even after I stood in the water for a while. I have also done many high temperature hikes in them, my feet stay cool (good socks also help). Bottom line, I would buy these again and I have no problem telling a friend or family to do the same.

I have worn these shoes for some years and have been totally satisfied. I've worn them with thick socks. I recently wore them every day on a trip to Norway, on compacted snow and on ice. They kept me warm and dry, and had great traction. I hardly needed my insulated boots.

Good looking shoe appearing to be made with quality materials and run true to size. EXCEPT... This is the 2nd pair of NF waterproof shoes I've tried and returned. The others were Ultra 109 GTXs and unfortunately both models are two narrow in the toe box for my feet. I ended up with a pair of Columbia Peakfreaks which have a more rounded toe and fit my feet perfectly.

Great for my knees. I was hit by a car 2yrs ago on crosswalk and these have helped. Comfortable, grippy and stable. I've worn them year round being water proof breathable GORE-TEX. The neutral black is the best colour for work, less noticeable. I'd like to get the Mid version as well, for deeper snow. I'd like to see them offered in black as well. Hoping they won't be discontinued, Im buying more.

I have the Storm low waterproof and enjoyed them so well I purchased the Hedgehog as a second low hiker. This shoe is very stylish and a great looking shoe, but I did not purchase it for style. It has several features that make it a serious hiker. First of all the sole is good and stiff and has excellent traction. Second the Gore-Tex liner is waterproof and it breaths very well so the shoe is not hot. Some waterproof shoes tend to be hot. The shoes are comfortable, but did not feel soft or comfortable until they had been worn a few times. If you want a softer shoe get one of the trail running shoes such as the Ultra 109 or others. This is my third pair of TNF low shoes and so far they have been very durable. If you are looking for a low waterproof hiker, give the Hedgehog GTX a look.
