At the last minute before a vacation to Kauai, I realized that I needed something sturdier than flip-flops to do some hiking on the island's trails - something with good tread, traction and airflow. Zappos' elves did a heroic job of getting these Merrells to me on the eve of my departure. I then proceeded to do what all advice said not to do, which was to skip any break-in period and take the shoes straight to the muddy, slippery, rocky and steep trails. These shoes were great! They fit comfortably, my feet were well-supported, and I felt sure-footed on the slippery slopes. Bonus feature for those buyers who will take them hiking on Kauai - they are the same color as the red mud, so if you are not meticulous about cleaning them after hiking, they do not really show the staining. I am very happy with my choice. I should mention that I tried Keens. They are good shoes but are just too wide for my feet. When I say the Merrells felt true to width, I mean that they fit my narrowish feet nicely.

I first tried this shoe on with thin liner socks and loved them! Later, I took off my socks since I planned to wear them without and they hurt my feet. The stitching is very scratchy and uncomfortable on my skin.

They were very comfortable at first. I wore them at home for about a half hour before I couldn't wait to get them off. Too much plastic stuff. And my feet hurt when I walked. Even sitting they didn't feel good to me.

I absolutely dig the style of these and wanted to love them. I am not a huge fan of sandals and these covered my feet the best of several that I tried. They fit well, true to size, but unfortunately were just too flat. No arch support at all and no bounce in the step, almost like an aqua sock. Since I needed something that I could wear all day at a theme park and also on a boat, I opted for the Teva Abbett, which does not look as cool, but is a better sandal at a much lower price.
I'd also recommend:
Keen, Teva

Perfect. I purchased these and a pair of Keens for a trip to Costa Rica. I returned the Keens and kept these. They're so much more comfortable. They were great in the water, walking around hiking in the rain. They wash easily. Perfect.

I needed shoes to wear kayaking, but had limitations due to ankle swelling after ankle reconstruction in Feb 2019. This wasn’t my first choice because I didn’t think it was as cute as others out there. However, when I put it on, it was really cute—even with a puffy ankle. Better yet, it’s cut low enough it doesn’t put uncomfortable pressure on my ankle! So happy Zappo’s has a great selection of shoes...especially for those of us with special limitations for fit. ?

Personally I LOVE this shoe. I needed something for Galapagos and I read ALL the reviews of the Keens, the Tevas and a few others in addition to these. I ordered a bunch all at once because don’t we all love Zappos for letting us do that! Anyway, I find these to be the easiest to wear with or without a sock, no rubbing and no break in time. I’ve been wearing them around the house and to yoga and errands and I feel super comfortable but they have not been tried for the Galapagos yet. They are lighter than the keens and less bulky than the tevas. There is no adjustment on the back heel so at first I worried and tried both a six and six and a half but stuck with the six and a half. The back moves a little but it doesn’t blister but some people might not like that. I like that I can slip into and out of them quickly. I like the adjustable cord on top because my foot changes size throughout the day and if I sit too long - simple to each down and adjust without fully untying a traditional lace. I think I learned that ultimately you just have to try them all yourself. I hated al the others that a lot of people swear by so I guess I’m just a Merrell girl as they have worked for me in the past in other styles. As I’ve aged my foot has gotten a little wider across the front and I have a bunion on one foot and my arches have fallen a bit. My ankle is still normal to narrow. These don’t come up high in back on the ankle and I liked that too. Best of luck to al finding the perfect water shoe for your journeys.

HOT! My dog chewed through my Keens, and as Merrell is my go-to brand, I bought these as a replacement. Then I bought a pair of the lighter-weight Keens on sale. For hiking, the Merrells have more structure and tread (the Keens have a heavier weight model with a more formidable tread). They are both equally comfortable on my foot. However, the Merrells take a huge hit for making my foot really hot-within minutes of walking in them-even on a cool day. This is somewhat remarkable, as there's enough of my bare foot showing that you would think that unlikely. I blame the neoprene interior: it has just a little more coverage than the Keen but oh, so much hotter and sweatier!

Love them. Very cute & perfect right out of the box. No breaking in. Comfortable & true to size. I can wear them with most anything & I do wear them most places.

I love the feel of these shoes! I am a size 11, and they are a perfect fit, except...the heels are just a little too loose and will probably get more so over time, and there is no way to adjust them. Bummer. Also, I did not realize that the back heel is a sling, so not workable for hiking.

This is a well constructed water sandle kind of shoe... I was hopeful until I wore it around the house for a while, alas, my large toe joint was fused two years ago, and because of the way it is raised up a bit, one of the straps up by my metatarsals rubbed painfully and left a significant red spot on my skin... a signal that this is not the shoe for me. No fault of the shoe... I'm grateful for Zappos return policy and customer service!

Bombed out on Merrill again. I ordered three pairs of Merrill shoes and none seem to fit. I really wanted to like these shoes but again, they seem a bit too narrow and a bit too short. Without socks, my foot sticks to the bottom and the rubbery insole just feels weird. This shoe would also look better with a dark lace. It looks silly with the yellow. I'm returning them and will continue on my quest for the perfect shoe to explore the Mayan ruins.

Love the style and has a good fit. Solid construction so it needs to be broken in a bit but so far I love it.

Bought these in March 2016 for trip to Oahu, Hawaii. Love them for kicking around town...even in the rain. But, they do not grip wet or muddy rocks during a rainforest hike (although they did fine on ocean lava rocks). I didn't fall, but had to be super-duper careful. (This is obvious in mud, but people are saying these shoes grip muddy rocks...and they just don't sorry.) The sole is comfy and the width is good for my bunion-feet. But, the backstrap is not adjustable, so plan on your feet moving around a bit b/c you can only draw the string so tight before it becomes too tight on top of your foot. Also, the support of a hiking shoe just isn't there with these shoes. I'd get a trail runner if you re looking for beefy athletic support. If Merrell included an adjustable backstrap and made the soles truly non-slip, these would be perfect. Other benefits: These are super cute with jeans, dresses, skirts, shorts, etc. and I'll be wearing them for yard work, general running around, wading through the river, bike-riding. They dry fast too!

I was worried when I first put the shoes on that they would be a little short, but they are perfect! Once you adjust the laces they are really comfortable. I just did a river hike in Utah and the shoes were comfortable, didn't rub, and didn't get almost any gravel inside. I was very pleased!

I like that these do not need to be tied but are laced up! They breath! And they are waterproof but the one time I tried in ocean, the sand and the shoe together rubbed blisters - so wear socks to the beach with these shoes:)

I love these shoes. I have them in two colors. I find them much more supportive than Keens. I wear them all summer long. They're great for hiking and walking. I can wear these for hours and have no ankle or foot problems at all.

I've had a pair of these for about 2 years and am still wearing them (granted I don't wear them in winter months). They are my 'go to' shoe for casual outings - walking in town, light hiking on trails, beach walks, and more. Mine are grey with teal and yellow trim and laces. I need a wide, roomy toe box and these fit the bill while making my feet look narrower than they are. And these shoes stay on snugly without rubbing or discomfort. I will purchase another pair when I can find colors I like again, not big on the flashy purple or other themes, and I don't want black.

This is my second pair of these, the first pair lasted five years. Because they keep my feet cool, I wear them in the spring, summer and fall. There is room for Dr. Scholl's arch support as needed. I have wide feet, and I love these shoes.

This sandal fits well and is comfortable so far. It is roomy enough to accommodate my custom orthotics as well.

Bought these shoes to use as a multipurpose shoe for a 11 day cruise to Panama. They were great for walking around cities and all terrains. They were comfortable and cool and protected my feet.
