I have worn only NB for decades.I have ever enlarging bunions and very narrow heels. I also have hammertoes on both feet. I need a deep and wide toe box. I was hopeful that these would fit. I think the best way to sum it up is on taking them out of the box they look huge. But in reality they don't fit as big as they look. How they manage to be so bulky but yet not feel roomy is a mystery. I am returning them and have decided to go with the Brooks Ghost. I haven't worn Brooks in 40 years but they are the choice. Will write a separate review.

This shoe would be wonderful, except the sides come up and hit my ankle, so i am going to return them.

I've had a foot rebuilt, so I begin there. I so very much loved my 1080s that I keep going back to my old worn out pair. I'm passionate about not caring for this shoe. I can see it's great qualities, but they are heavy and clunky. I find they'd be good for straight linecwalking and running, but flexibility is nonexistent for me in turning. I am trying the 880 but they're no match for the redesigned old version of the 1080 that had flex and were light weight and stable. The new 1080 has a hard heel touch that I'm not fond of at all. It jars my foot and this shoe does the same. Finding the 880 better but still no match for a perfect shoe found in the old 1080. The softer touch of the old 1080 was easier on my foot joints. These harder heel soles are not of much value and I'd welcome suggestions.

I got these in an 8.5 D. I liked the wider toe box so my bunion felt comfortable, but my heel was slipping up and down as I walked. If I inserted the laces up to the last hole to make the heel fit more snugly, I found the laces were too short to tie. So, although they felt comfy for my toe box, the heel slippage made these go back to Zappos. Also, the color choices for this model are horrible and unfashionable. They only had turquoise green & silver in my size left, and they are not pretty and won't go with most clothing I wear.

I have been wearing the New Balance 860 series and thought I would try this running shoe to see if it was even more comfortable. I have to remove the insoles to put my orthodics in and once I did that I could not get my heal from lifting out of the shoe - the heal area was too shallow. So, I am returning these despite the fact that as long as I didn't move they were comfortable. Back to the New Balance 860s! BTW, I wear a 7.5 B size if that is helpful.

Usually love New Balance Sneakers but these weren't for me. My heels come out of them when I walk. I ordered my usual size but these seem bigger in the back. Had to return.

My podiatrist wants me to wear shoes w/a rollbar, so I am VERY limited in choice, there may be one other one out there in NB, but I haven't found it! As comfortable as you are going to get w/orthotics and foot problems. High priced for a senior citizen when the last breaks down in 6-8 months. I am not unhappy w/the shoe, just would like more selection & less expensive if at all possible, & wish the last would hold up longer!!

This is my first pair of 1540 series. I have a narrow foot in a high arch. The sales associate said they run narrower in the heel, they do not. Also, the shoelaces are too short. I buy a pair of new balance every year and every year the quality is less.

I'm really disappointed with the recent New Balance shoes. They are all smaller than the size printed on them. I was really determined to like this shoe after reading all the good reviews. The one big thing is, the shoelaces are too short. I could barely tie them. I had to move the whole thing down one hole so I could tie the lace. Then it was still so tight I couldn't tell if the shoe really fit or not. This is the second NB pair of shoes I've returned in the last few months. I guess I'll have to resort to going to a local store and paying retail for something that will fit.

What happened to this shoe? Not the same as previous which I'm been buying New Balance 20+ years! Only show I wear because of support & wide width. Very disappointed in the fit and support. Very sloppy fit too. I will not buy this style again & definitely will not buy from the local Naples New Balance Store.

I wanted to love these, wanted to Wear American etc., but they don't work for me. Not enough cushion or support, so I 'pronated' right up against the toe of the shoe and it felt too short. I have impossible feet -- no arch and no heel -- and my heel slipped out of these, too. Back to Sauconys for me.

Did great when I first bought them to relieve the heel pain, but only lasted about 3 months before the pain was back. Not my favorite I've bought from NB.

These shoes are just ok. The sizing was good but comfort is just moderate. Not much arch support and little cushioning.

If you are searching for a shoe shaped like the legendary old 1123, this is about as close as you'll get, though the toe box is not quite as large. However, it has far less cushioning in the sole (front is very thin)and much less support because of being made mostly of mesh. I agree with another reviewer about the "shelf" effect between the front and back half of the shoe. If you are a long-time customer of NB, then you'll notice that quality is poor. They seem to be more cheaply made with each model. However, I'm desperate because I have a pretty much square foot. Brooks makes a much higher quality of shoe (I know because I've taken them apart to look), but the arch is not in the right spot for me. This one has pretty much no arch support.

I have used New Balance for years for my nursing shoes. I love them. This was the first pair of the new 1540v2. I have used the other rollbar shoes in the past. They felt great but the quality was awful. The emblems started peeling off around 4 months of wear. I only wore them three days a week. I have holes in the sole now. The N is halfway peeled off on both sides of each shoe. I have older New Balance shoes that have no holes and no peeled emblems. For the price I paid for these and the fact that no discount would apply to these specific shoes, I better not see any poor quality issues.

When I needed a replacement pair for my usual model, 1340v2, (which are recommended by my podiatrist for plantar fasciitis), they were out of stock in my size. Yikes! Since I really needed replacements, I thought I'd try this model. Running shoe, higher level model, so, what's not to like? Well... On the plus side, they are definitely very stylish and attractive. Since I'm not a runner, this is a definite benefit. On the minus side, however, with my orthotics they are very tight and feel about 1/2 size smaller. They also don't seem to have the same support as the 1340v2. I was very surprised and disappointed in this model since comfort and support are more important to me than style.

I usually get 1540s shoes. Best confort, most cushion ever in a pair of shoes. I tried 860, they are 20.00 cheaper, but not worth saving compared to 1540s. Sticking with 1540 forever

Next to no cushioning. One time I actually am grateful I wear doctor prescribed orthotics.
At the eyelet area one shoe has the ' upper' bending as though cracked. Only purchased these because I need a 4x this shoe one of the few available this size for women.

I bought these to replace my 995s and they do NOT have the great arch support I usually get with NBs. My left foot (the worse one) has been having pain on the bone behind the small toe from just walking across campus in these. In fact, it's getting so bad that I might just send these to charity and switch back to my old pair. Unfortunately, I'm a 2E width, so there's only 3 pairs of NB shoes to choose from if you want USA made shoes. PLEASE consider expanding your shoe selection for those of us with wide feet! I shouldn't have to trade GREAT arch support for a bit of extra toe width!

Before ordering these shoes, I read the reviews and they were said to have good arch support. As I have plantar fasciitis, that is something that is important to me. I was surprised when I received the shoes that there is precisely no arch support. When I removed the insole, that was a thin foam that with only a couple of pounds of pressure between my hands could completely flatten, including the tiny, and I mean tiny, bit that was pretending to be arch support. You can imagine what putting your body weight on it does. That's right, your feet would squish it completely flat, flat, flat. So, after I removed the insole to check out the arch support, I saw that not only is the removable insole not supportive, but the inside of the shoe (midsole?) beneath the removable insole is completely flat. Flat insoles and flat midsole means Chucks are good for 20-somethings who have yet to suffer the pain of life manifested in their feet. Skip these. My search for good shoes that have decent arch support continues!

I am a long time Zappos customer and have worn all of the versions of this shoe for 15 years. Like many reviewers, I much preferred this shoe in the 1122 and 1223 model. I was not a fan if the 1540 at all. Being that there are not many shoe options for an over pronator with a narrow foot, I decided to give the 1540V2 a try. I was pleasantly surprised. It fits more like the 1123! It isn't as wide and bulky in the toe box as the original 1540. I do agree with some other reviewers that the heel is too wide and the colors choices dismal. I am in my 40's and have had to chose fit over style for years. New Balance has some great colors and would love for them to realize that over pronators don't want geriatric looking shoes. Now, a message to Zappos. For the first time, I had to get these shoes from another site. You didn't offer them in the 2A width. I have always been a loyal customer and have found your customer service to be second to none. I have notice a considerable drop in the number of narrow shoes offered on your site. Please don't forget your narrow footed customers.

I really wanted this shoe to fit well. My heel slipped whether my socks were thin or thick. I have a high instep and with orthotics it just wasn't going to be the shoe for me.

While these shoes were comfortable they did not have the arch support I was expecting. But most of all they were too hot to wear to the gym everyday.
