Wow! These shoes are amazing. I have injured my meniscus, and unfortunately it may not be able to be repaired. The meniscus is the shock absorber for the knee, and mine isn't functioning right, so my Dr. advised me to get shoes that absorb shock. He recommended Z-Coils, but I didn't want to try those for various reasons. After some research, I discovered these. There is a very enlightening video at the manufacturer's website showing shock to the leg in a "regular" running shoe versus the On. I contacted the company and was told the Cloudsurfer and Cloudster were the most shock absorbent models. I tried 3 models and liked the Cloudsurfer best. The upper is lightweight, flexible, and fits similar to Brooks, which I wore for years. (As it turns out Brooks are great for your feet, but not so great if you have a knee problem.) I could tell within a few hours these were easing my knee pain. I tried on some sandals after wearing these and got immediate knee pain in three steps. This made it very obvious that the shock absorbing effect is working. So even though these shoes are not marketed towards knee injuries, I highly recommend them. If you have any questions, email the company through their website - I got answers within 24 hours and they were super helpful.
I'd also recommend:
I got these as an alternative to Z-coils, they are a much more elegant way to implement shock absorbers.

I have to review this shoe. It's a game changer for me. I had no idea I could find a shoe that does so much for my running. I first read about it over on runrepeat. Got me interested in trying something other than my beloved Brooks Ghost 8. The Cloudsurfer hugs my foot and has a sleek look to it, with good structure and support. The difference in impact when running is noticeable. The first thing I noticed was how I naturally rolled forward, propelled into the next step. My posture improved, leaning into the run a bit more. And, believe it or not, my pace has improved considerably. I'm glad I didn't rely solely on the reviews here, because normally, I wouldn't have tried it, based on Zappos customer ratings. I bought the navy/mint color and it's classy. I'm not much into the brighter colors, so looked at men's and bought a pair. Usually I wear an 8 street shoe and 9 in Brooks running shoes. I bought an 8 and it's perfect. Lots of room in the toe box for the toes to spread out, too. I bought the graphite/light gray combo in men's 7, and they fit great. I was worried they might be too large. I'm a neutral runner, usual issues of intermittent plantar fasciitis, and slight pronation. I feel like the ON Cloudsurfer is an added tool in my training and fitness routine.

Let me first say, I loathe running. I’m 35 and a former athlete, and I’ve recently committed to getting healthy again. The shoes I had were not giving me the support I needed, so after much thought and research decided to try these. I absolutely LOVE them! Feels great, good support without feeling “heavy or tight” on feet. First day using them and my joints and back feel 1,000% better post workout!

I had ankle reconstruction last year and needed a lightweight shoe with good shock absorption and a sturdy heel support. This shoe does all of that for me and more, I actually think I might be able to run again in these shoes!

This was my 3rd pair of On running shoes and the 2nd pair in this style. This pair was twice as wide and half as long as my previous pairs. Very disappointed.

This is the best running shoe I have ever owned. Cushioned design propels forward, arch support and knit construction fit like a glove while providing good stability. This is my third pair. My only wish is that On offered these in more colors, or at least one neutral color.

I have now owned four pairs of these and they are, hands-down, the best running shoes for me. I have no arch in one foot (ligament tear) and bad knees (torn meniscus) and these provide great stability and support. I encountered issues for the first time with my last order: 1) they used to come in a W width and now only come in M; and, 2) these don't seem as well made as the previous version. The rubber ridges on the sole wore down to a paper thin texture on one shoe only and after 6 months! Hope this was a fluke as I giving them another chance.

I love the way these shoes look, but they are not made for work as a nurse. No arch or ankle support at all. Also, this brand is not made for people with wide feet. I can hardly squeeze my feet into them and I have to loosen the laces way up to make them fit. Very disappointed.

This shoe is impossibly undersized...at LEAST a full size smaller than what I wear in other shoes. Also felt narrow and had an oddly placed hump meant as an arch support near the ball of foot but not at the arch. Ordered two different On running shoes in two different sizes - Cloud X and CloudSurfer - and they both were very tight and undersized all around.

This would have been a wonderful running shoe If it wasn’t for the odd design of the attached, angled tongue that opens on lily on one side. It looks cool, but when the shoe is on, it digs into the leg with every step. The pics show how the tongue design hits the leg. I rotate six pairs of ONs, have owned at least a dozen pairs, always went up 1/2 size bc I like extra space in the toe box. In the case of this style, I would have needed a full size up for a proper fit. #sad bc the cushioning is great, and they look good.

This is my 4th pair of Cloudsurfers in 4 years and I still am able to wear all 4 pairs. On finally got the women’s Cloudsurfers right with the addition of half sizes and better (and shorter)shoelaces. I need good arch support and the best cushioning I can find. These fit the bill cushioning wise, but I do add additional arch support by removing the insoles and replacing them with either Protalus or Aetrex insoles for arch support and additional stability to prevent supination. I am 67, have arthritic knees and high arches and as a result do low impact workouts daily. I wear Cloudsurfers exclusively for my workouts which also include resistance training 3X/week and walking on sightseeing and adventure travel. I wish that On would make their women’s Cloudsurfers in the same colors as they used to because the only color that Zappos now carries (but it is currently out of stock) is a neon orange that is absolutely visible in the dark, a good thing if you workout outside after dark, but not so good if you wear them with non-workout clothing to sightsee at home/abroad during daylight. This is the reason for the 4 star rating in the style category. I love these shoes especially because my feet always stay cool in them even on hot days walking on pavement, and they are machine washable. I’ve also worn them with the included insoles for shorter more leisurely walks and they are well cushioned. I hope that On continues to make the Cloudsurfers because it has the most cushioning compared to all of their other Cloud versions.

Well well well. It appears that my years-long brand loyalty to Salomon running shoes may have been overcome. I bought these because I just started to road run very seriously and the reviews were excellent. They did NOT disappoint! THE most comfortable pair of running shoes I now own. And I have zero issues with shin splints or sore calves after my runs with these (not that I’ve had the same issues with Salomon but this is important to note). Seriously like walking on a cloud. Wish I would’ve found them sooner because it appears they’ve discontinued this model show and I would’ve loved to have had more than one pair. The orange is truly NEON and not muted as in the photo. I get tons of compliments on them. Wearing them only to train and on race days so I don’t ruin them since they no longer make this model. Love!!!

I absolutely love theses shoes. I was skeptical of the design at first, as I tend to stick with traditional looking running shoes, but the weird design on the bottom really does help with impact absorption. I do HIIT a couple times a week and that includes lots of jumping and pivoting. These shoes did a great job of lessening the impact on my knees. I took out the factory insert and put my SuperFeet orthotics in and they are one of the most comfortable athletic shoes I've ever known. Plus, I love the colors, very eye catching. I will caution that the shoes run large. I typically wear a 5.5 (sometimes have to go with a 6), but I had to return the 5.5 for a 5.0. My feet are somewhat narrow and I'm able to tighten the laces enough to make them snug on my feet. The customer service team allowed me to exchange the 5.5 for a 5.0, despite me letting them know I wore the 5.5 for 3 or 4 workouts before realizing they were half a size too big. The CS agent sent out my exchange (size 5.0) and I revived them the next day. I returned the other pair and didn't incur any additional charges. Thank you Zappos!

I love the sole of these shoes and am really bummed i have to return them. They area at the beginning of the laces was really tight and caused me a great deal of foot pain after only one wearing.

So...I read reviews and talked to employees at a running store. Definitely order a half size larger. I am typically a 9 in almost all shoes and a 9.5 in these and Keens brand. I also wear 9.5 in ASICS. I have two pair of these and the medium width is exact with no forgiveness. I can easily walk 10k steps a day in these at work on concrete floors. Not too masculine looking once you put them on.

I've been running in these shoes on trails for a few months now. I love these shoes. They provide excellent ground protection from rocks. They can be worn with or without socks. The upper is breathable and comfortable and the shoe has a sock like feel without any seams. I love these shoes so much I got an over-use injury from too much running. They should come with a warning because they are so comfortable you are probably going to do more miles on the trail than you should. I will be repurchasing these shoes. They have a firm responsive ride. If you want a soft sinking feeling these will not do for you.

These cloud surfers were very comfortable right out of the box and helped my plantar fasciitis, however I walk 5 miles per day and the soles are already breaking down much to my disappointment. I will revert back to Asics.

Wonderful shoes! I could walk in these for hours. Feet and legs don't get near as tired as when I wear other running shoes. I have worn various styles of Brooks, which are good shoes, but my feet don't feel the fatigue in On shoes like they do with my Brooks. I have had heel pain in the past and have had none in these right out of the box from day one. I wear a 9.5 in regular shoes and wear a 10 in these. Love them!

Oh man, I wanted to love these shoes, and I was so sad to return them. They look great and the arch support felt terrific. Unfortunately, there was not enough cushion under the ball of my foot for these to work for me. I'm definitely in the minority, so unless you have a specific issue with needing a lot of ball-of-foot cushion, you will probably love these shoes.

With the tongue being fixed on one side it makes the shoe hard to get on. I loosen them as much as possible but still have to cram my feet in resulting in socks bunching. Once on they feel good, I find myself not reaching for them because of the work out to put them on
