I so wanted to love these boots - I really did. I loved how comfortable and warm they were inside, and with them being Merrells, I naturally expected that they would be the same outside in the weather. We took a trip to Wyoming for New Year's and there was about ten inches of snow on the ground. I wore them with ski pants so that kept out most of the snow, but I was not convinced that the snow would have stayed out if I had not had those ski pants on - the tongue is only gussetted to the top of the foot. They stayed dry for the most part, but I wasn't impressed with the warmth. Later in the day when I was no longer wearing the ski pants I took off the boots and they were wet inside. Not sure where it came from but it was definitely there. I really wanted something cute AND functional, which apparently is non-existent. I love the style of these and like I said, they are VERY comfortable. Traction is great, and I also love the fact that they lace and zip up so you can just zip them off instead of unlacing the whole boot. I just wish they were more functional. I will probably end up keeping the Vasque Pow Pow UltraDry.

I usually love Merrell products, and hoped to love these boots, but the zipper did not zip all the way down for some reason, and I just found it a little heavy.

There's a lot to like about these boots, but they just were not a good fit for me. Here's why: First, as a Minnesotan, these boots simply were not warm enough -- and I live in SmartWool socks. Second, after wearing them for a day, the zipper started rubbing against my ankle bones ultimately making the boot quite uncomfortable and unwearable.

Boot was way too narrow for my thick calves. Very hard to put on. Made for skinny women.

Oh how I wanted loves these boots, feel in love with them at first sight after a long boot hunt. They are so very cute but just have a couple fatal flaws which make them unworkable. I knew before ordering they were not fully gusseted, but figured since I'm not in deep snow that often it would be ok...the trouble is, these boots are very narrow in the calf and the tongue is also too narrow (even on the lower boot you can see the black fabric of the gusset), so there were actual gaps between the side of the tongue and boot letting in blowing snow and cold air. Live in CO so even walking through the neighborhood to get my 1st grader from school each afternoon this would be a problem. Also the laces are spaced a little far apart so it "bubbled" out funny in a few places trying to lace up tight enough around the lower calf. If you have very skinny calves and lace these up tight (or wear them for decoration over tights) you might be able to avoid all this, but still the tongue doesn't attach to the laces near the top so it has a tendency to side to the side which gets irritating. Tried them with an average pair of tall wool socks over my skinny jeans and there is no way on earth they were going to fit over that without major gaps on the side of the tongue. I'm a very average/slightly narrow 9 in pretty much all shoes, average calf size. Ordered a 9.5 and they just barely fit with regular thin cotton socks. Order a full size up if you want thick socks. From the ankle down I'd give these boots a 5 star, they are SO sturdy and grip well, but the functionality of the shaft is just terribly designed and wrecks the entire boot (too bad since they are ADORABLE style wise!). Hope Merrell corrects this and they would have the best boot on the market! Till then I'm back looking for something else.

I agree with most of the existing reviews, but want to clarify a few things: 1) Gusseting: the tongue is gusseted up to the third lace eye from the bottom. As one reviewer stated, this is probably fine for average conditions, but I wouldn't spend a long time in the back country in it. 2) Ankle Fit: I have average calves, narrow feet and ankles (no extra flesh - just bones and tendons). These are very roomy around the ankles, which made them shift against my heel - instant blisters for sure. Even the laces wouldn't solve this problem for me, it was an issue with the cut of the boot. 3) Footbed Fit: The footbed of the size 9 seemed a bit short. I would have had to return it for a 9.5, which is very unusual for me. However, my middle toe is longer than my big toe, so that may be part of the reason. All of that being said, it has a good aggressive sole for traction, and wouldn't look too bad with pants tucked in or tights. I am returning them in favor of the Keen Wapato, for the fit and the style.

These boots are comfortable and look great. My criticism is that they have both a zipper and functioning laces. The tongue slips to the side and is not attached at the upper half so in deep snow some can get in. This also makes them annoying to put on.

Squeeky... Seems they had already been returned as there was no packing in the boot its self. Also throws your body forward somehow where the center of gravity is off. My back started hurting as I was testing them around the house. Returned.

I've tried what feels like a hundred boots to find exactly what I'm looking for. These fit the bill in so many ways -- cute (for a snow boot), not too clunky, tall, not horribly difficult to get on/off. They run very small. I am almost always a 9, and even an 8.5 in some shoes, and I had to buy a 10 in these to get the length right. Now they are a bit too wide because of the size 10, but thick socks take care of that problem. My biggest complaint is that they are not very warm. For this price I want my feet toasty! A 20 minute walk around my suburban neighborhood in 25 degree weather left my toes nearly numb. I'm so, so, so disappointed that I spent this much money on boots that don't keep my feet warm. They do seem to be waterproof but I haven't put them to the test on that beyond 5 minutes of walking in the snow. The side zipper is a brilliant idea but it is so hard to get up and down I almost had to grab a pair of pliers.

The tongue on these is really only gusseted to top of the foot, and it is difficult to tie it tight enough for snow not to get in. For the price, I could not risk getting snow in my legs. Back they go.

This boot is made for fashion, not for function. As other reviews have mentioned, the front is not fully gusseted, so any real accumulation of snow is going to come right into the boot. There is very little insulation (only 100g Thinsulate) which is surprising given the sole and general clunky look of this boot -- it's not nearly as warm as it looks, and is very disappointing.

This specific pair has a flaw in the zipper that makes the left boot impossible to zip past the ankle. Didn't like the lack of gusset in the tongue either. Replaced with order for S SOREL Tofino Cate!

Zipper on one boot is flawed and does not zip past the ankle. Lack of gusset above the ankle makes them vulnerable to weather. Replaced them with SOREL Tofino Cate.

These boots were very tight in the calfs. So I got the next size up and the calfs were still too tight. There is no room to tuck in pants. I have normal sized calfs. I sent them back.
