These boots are so cozy and comfortable, I forgot to take them off at work at first. The sole is nice and thick, insulating from the iced over winter ground. No cold feet here. About size: They run small. Fit is snug on an M foot, might not work for a wider foot. I am usually a 10.5 to 11 boot, depending on brand, usually closer to 10.5 M. I ordered the 11, and they are a great fit with wool socks - light weight works fine in the cold, snug but doesn't pinch. A bit of forewarning: These felt too narrow when first tried on. But the material gives to a perfect fit after a couple of times wearing. And they don't make my feet look huge. I have finally found the perfect ice and snow boot.

These are super comfy, warm, and have a certain stomper charm. Yep, the tongue ends above the ankle but if I'm in 8inch or above snow to play I'll wear my jeans over them (or snow pants).

Another perfect fit from Merrell. Long ago I wore size 6.5. Now that I'm older, a size 7 feels best. I bought this pair in 7.5. They fit superbly. Love the side zip and the adjustable front ties. They look rugged for casual dress. I'm one happy camper! Thank you, Merrell.

These were comfortable, supportive and stylin'. I would recommend them for the city ladies looking for walking boots, and for narrow-calved active ladies that want some warmth and pizzazz while gallivanting about. As others mentioned, the gusset is low, but if they were tied tightly that would likely only be an issue if trudging through some seriously deep snow.
Based on reviews, I ordered these a half size up. That's typically enough to accommodate my heavy winter socks, which they did, if a bit snugly--especially in the shaft. With regular socks they were just a little loose in the foot, and would tuck in a pair of close fitting pants. They would look sharp under a skirt on a snowy, slippery day. They were a bit too snug for my partially disabled self, looking for some style with my warmth.

I bought these after my Sorels failed and the lining tore as I put my foot in it. I really need a boot with good traction. Supplies were limited and I chose this Merrell boot since it had features I liked and was available in my size.speaking of size, I ordered a half size up. They fit fine with room for a heavy sock. They are comfortable and lightweight. The tongue is only gussets at the lower area of the boot. With a sock on I don't feel a breeze. Easy on, easy off. There is plenty of room in the calf with pants stuffed into them. There is looseness in the ankle, but as the leather softens, I know I will be able to pull the shoelaces tighter. The boot is comfy, light, nice style.

These were very cute and seemed like it would be comfortable for walking around. I assumed they would fit my athletic (i.e., big) calves, but it was a no go. If you have average sized calves and want a good-looking snow boot option, I'd definitely give these a try.

I am so happy with these Merrell snow boots! Excellent height, strong construction, warm, true to size, great style.
I have owned Merrells in the past but this is my first pair of Merrell snow boots. My past few pairs of snow boots have been Columbia brand and on every pair I have owned the seam that separates the sole and laces split and the snow goes right in the boots! This pair of Merrells just arrived so I have not field tested them yet but I have a good feeling that they will hold up well. Merrell has outdone themselves with this style!

I finally ordered these boots after many local and online searches for snow boots and I am glad I spent the money on these. They are super cute, comfortable, warm, and get great traction in wet weather. I am a size 7 in most shoes and ordered a 7.5 with the intention of wearing thick socks, however I feel they run small and to wear a thick sock would need a full, not a half size greater. I took them out today with thin socks in the rain/snow and they were plenty warm so I will not bother with exchanging them. The laces are cute and the side zip makes for easy-ish on and easy off. I had a little trouble with the zippers going over the ankle portion of both boots, but I think that the stiffness of the boots will ease with wear. As stated in previous reviews, the tongue is not fully gusseted, which isn't a huge problem for me as I only needed boots for walking my dog, to/from work etc. I have not stood in deep snow (scraping the car) for any length of time but I think a short time in the snow would be fine. I love the traction of these boots, a lot that I have seen and tried on have minimal grip which seems counterintuitive for a snow boot. Overall, I love them and my search for boots has ended. Like always, zappos is wonderful to order from-easy, free shipping (yay!), and very quick delivery.

Beautiful boot, but a little too rugged for what I'm looking for. This would be great if I wanted something primarily for winder hiking, snow shoeing, ect. I want a boot that's good for that, but something I can also throw on to walk the dogs or run to the store. These are great quality and the rubberized zipper is an awesome touch for the winter. The zipper gives easy access, while the laces allow for some size adjustment. I'm typically a 7.5, but ordered an 8 to allow for a thicker sock. Sizing was good.

Very sturdy but relatively lightweight winter boots. Comfortable though the sole is not not that flexible. I think they'll be very warm, but it hasn't been cold enough to wear them yet. It hasn't snowed yet either so can't comment on whether they're truly waterproof, but given that they are Merrells which is such a great brand, I trust that they will be. Slim enough to wear under boot cut pants, but you could also tuck slim jeans into them. I am normally an 8, and the 8 fit with plenty of room for a thick sock.

I live in michigan and warm boots are a necessity. I also wanted a pair of stylish black boots for getting around town. I like the look of these. They are different than the Sorel Joan of Arctic I see on everyone else. My style is a bit more rocker and these totally fit the bill. The height goes up to the top of my calf. I'm 5'1 so probably mid calf for normal sized human beings. The tongue is attached to the sides of the boot about halfway up. I can see that being a problem in deep snow as snow could come in through the sides.
Also, the shoes had a super embarassing squeak in both. My husband added some friction-less tape to the bottom of the insert and the squeaking stopped.

This is a very attractive boot. I won't be able to fully evaluate it's quality until the snow flies...hoping it's not good tho'. It seems to be true to size, not too narrow, not too wide...just right, like Goldilocks and the Three Bears!

Very warm and comfortable. Good arch support. But very narrow if you have large calves this is not for you. My calves are 37 cm and I struggle to close the zipper. And if I untie the laces too much, I would have snow coming through. So if you are skinny this is a great boot.

I was worried about buying these boots due to the only half gusseted tongue, and when they first arrived I saw how narrow the tongue was and I thought there is no way these will work. I wanted something warm like my Uggs that I could stomp around in dirty left over slush with and for things like shoveling the driveway...basically so I don't get my Uggs dirty and to have something warmer than my Hunter rainboots. I tried them on and loved how they felt and looked. The arch support is fantastic. I looked on line for anything available that might be more functional and nothing was left in my size, so I decided to suck it up and keep them. I have had them a week, and I love them. The traction is excellent. They are very warm, but not too warm. With a thick sock, they kept me very comfortable on a 40 minute walk in 10F with -12F wind chill. With a thin sock I think they would not be too warm to walk through the mall. I am able to get the zipper up with the laces done, but it took some patience at first. It has gotten easier. They seemed stiff at first but have softened up and are very comfortable. I played around with loosening the laces in some areas and tightening them in others to make them very comfortable. I was able to fit a thick fleece lined legging plus a weather resistant tight over that comfortably tucked inside the boot. I tested out how snow would get in through the half gusseted tongue. The tongue is gusseted up to the top of the ankle, it is right above that where a little snow could get in, if you have the laces tight enough that the boot buckles a little at the ankle. But I have walked through knee deep snow several times and nothing has really worked it's way past the tongue. If the snow were wetter and you were in it for a long time it might get in. But overall, I think if you were outside building a snowman or shoveling for a couple hours where you could go inside when you were done, you will be fine. If you were snow camping and could not risk the possibility of any snow getting in because it would mean wet calves for the rest of the weekend these might not cut it. I wear a 6.5-7 and the 7 fit perfectly with room for a thick sock. The footbed felt exactly the right size, and with the laces you can adjust the tightness for thin or thick socks. I love how they look! Rugged chic! They are solid but not clunky...pretty agile actually. I bought the black slate. I thought the name black slate didn't seem to fit how they appear in the picture. The picture is pretty accurate. I can't really understand why they call them black slate. They have three different shades of brown on them and red and brown laces with a red and grey snowflake pattern on the cuff. Love them! Very glad I decided to keep them!!the 1/2 gusseted tongue is not nearly as much of a problem as I thought it might be. I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 only because if they had just fully gusseted the tongue there would have been no question.

These boots are incredibly comfortable, I am very happy I purchased them. They are true to size, warm, and adorable. I've gotten many compliments on them. Tricky thing about them though is they have to be unlaced to zip them up, otherwise don't bother with the zipper and just use the laces.

Wanted a tall boot I could wear with leggings or under jeans and this fit the bill. Love the zipper on the side for quick on and off and I can adjust it depending on if I need more room in the calf area. Earth tone color works well for black or brown leggings. For the first couple of times wearing the boot there was a place on the dorsal ankle where the material bunched when you flexed your ankle, as I've continued to ware them it has subsided.

My girlfriend has been taking care of me while I am on crutches from an ice hockey injury. The boots she was using were either worn out beyond repair or without good traction. I bought her these because of the zipper and high tech ice tread. She loves them. She has commented how much traction she has in snow and ice and is especially vocal about the waterproof nature of the boot. The "Boulder" is the foxy color that lets the eye move up the leg. However, they are not as warm as other snow boots on the market. If Merrell made these boots with 400 or 600 gram Thinsulate, every woman would want a pair.

These are much more expensive than previous snow boots I've used to shovel the driveway or walk from the parking lot to the office, but I needed the comfort, support, and ankle stability to assist with walking my dog on treacherous sidewalks, so this decision was made more on what met my needs than price. Overall, I'm very pleased with these boots. You can immobilize an ankle with them if needed (i.e. if you need to protect a finicky tendon on uneven surfaces), but I was ok driving with the right one less tight. The traction is great for snow, but add a pair of Yaktraxx if it's really icy. The gusset reaches the height of an ankle boot on me, and the rest of the leg is not gusseted. The zipper helps, but if you like a close fit, you'll end up adjusting the laces to get them on and off. Sizing--they run short. I have narrow feet and normally buy size 8.5 running shoes, but I had to send back the size 9 (too close with thin/average socks) for a 9.5 in these even though the size 9 Merell Moab fit. Unfortunately, the 9.5 is wider. For those who use orthotics, the insole is removable. They're comfortable enough that I would not bother with orthotics if I did not need the extra arch support. I was really impressed by the speed with which Zappos got the second pair to me and the easy exchange process.

Cute. Definitely runs small. I would order a half size up if you plan to wear anything by very thin socks. Also, the key is to zip first, then try to tighten laces into where you want them to be, or you'll never get them around your calves (and I don't even have big calves.) I have narrow feet and the fit is good. might rub a little around the ankle. Echoing another review, front tongue isn't gusseted, so if you are dealing with lots of snow and don't have narrow legs, you may have some exposure.

Super nice boot. Really good looking - but narrow in the toe box and fairly tight overall. I have narrow feet and ordered my regular size but could barely get one foot in the boot. I couldn't try the other boot as the zipper refused to operate and I didn't want to force it. I sure wish the zippers would have worked smoothly and the one I tried on wasn't so tight as I loved the look and feel of them.

Technically these seem like great boots but they do run a bit short, I should have ordered a half size larger than my usual, and the arch support feels minimal. this is based on trying them on only (not actually wearing). I'll have to send them back.

I really wanted to love these boots - I thought they would be everything I wanted, performance, warmth comfort and STYLE. Well three out of 4 isn't bad. The seam just above the ankle made these boot too uncomfortable for me. I do not have a wide calf. I wear an 8 and these were true to size.

I was really hoping that these boots would work. But alas they do not. They run a little wide in the toe area and I felt like I had put on moon boots. The heels were higher than I thought.
