I really wanted to like this shoe, but alas, there's a reason it only has 1 star among reviewers...it's really uncomfortable. The shoe is way too narrow. I felt like the arch support was digging into my foot. I took the shoes off 30 minutes ago and my arch still hurts. It's also extremely difficult to slip on. All in all it's a cool looking shoe, but feels like crap when it's on. I usually like Merrell but this model is a total dud.

Good looking shoe but I found the ankle height higher than normal, about a 1/2" higher than an older pair of similar Merrells I had. Makes walking uncomfortable, especially if you do not wear socks. Am returning these and buying some other model.

The shoe fits great, but it sounds like I'm walking on a bag of potato chips with each step. I'm guessing that this incredibly loud sound is made by the waterproof membrane. This issue trumps any of the good qualities and is extremely disappointing. I own a pair of Merrell's All Out Blaze Stretch Waterproof shoes and they don't make a sound. You'd think that for this price Merrell would have addressed and fixed this very obvious flaw. Strange how they didn't apply the same waterproofing method used on the All Out Blaze Stretch Waterproof shoe.

While these shoes look great, feel and fit great, very comfortable, I would not get these in the "waterproof" version, because the waterproof lining sounds like it's made of plastic grocery shopping bags. I had three different pairs sent and they all sounded the same, like you're walking on raked up leaves. I did buy the "non-waterproof" version and they are great. I can only give this waterproof version 1 star because of the cheap, noisy sound as you walk in them.
I'd also recommend:
I would recommend the exact same shoe but not in "Waterproof" version.

Looks nice, but narrow. Difficult, actually impossible to get on food, eve at a 1/2 size bigger. One width available, and it is on the narrow side of medium.

I started buying the Merrell Chameleon Stretch shoes in 2008 and I am about to receive another pair shortly. I really love this shoe because I have a medium width and a high arch and this is the first shoe I ever found that supported my foot so well. It literally feels like someone took a print of my foot and made a shoe just for me. My feet always feel amazing and I can stand or walk for hours with absolute comfort. I hope Merrell NEVER stops making these shoes. I DO wish they would make more color choices. This is the best shoe for me!

Most comfortable shoes I ever bought. Owned them about a year and still love them. They were comfortable from day one. I have bad arches, and these provide me with excellent support. This is the first pair of Merrell shoes I wore, and will buy another pair based on my complete satisfaction with these!

Just bought a second pair for my husband, as he loved the first pair I got him 3 years ago. He wears a true size 12 but tends to be a bit on the wide side, but not enough to buy a wide width. These fit him to a T with no break-in period. He wore them as his only shoes on a trip to the desert in Utah just this week, 3 days after they arrived. No problems at all. No noise from the weatherproofing that other people mentioned, and no problem with the higher ankle wrap. He loved the toggle closure so he can slip them on and off rather than tying and untying. He has bad knees from knee replacement and arthritis and wearing these while walking or touring helps keep the pain to a minimum. Great comfort and support! Keep these in stock, Zappos!

My teenage son loves these shoes. He's worn them daily for the last year and they are still holding together. Love that Merrel quality. Only had to replace the insoles. Just replacing them now because they look beat up. The waterproofing is great for rainy days. Keeps the socks dry and stops that wet sneaker smell. Also whatever they use to prevent odor really works. He likes the bungee laces, no floppy shoe strings. They must be comfortable since they're the only shoes he'll wear.

I love the Merrell Chameleon; I have used them for years now! To me they are the most out of the box comfortable sneaker I have ever owned!

Comfort, comfort, comfort! My husband won't wear any other shoe, so I am soooo glad that Merrell has seen fit to continue making this shoe! From my standpoint however, It would be nice if this shoe were available in more colors.

I love these shoes. I'm surprised by the number of negative reviews. They fit very well and are quite comfortable. I wanted something waterproof for hiking with the dog in the woods and they work well.

I have flat feet and don't seem to fit into most Merrell shoes. These fit my feet perfectly, and feel like they mold to my feet. The stretch material and laces make this a slip in hiking shoe, and helps prevent rocks from slipping into the shoe.

This replaced an older non-waterproof Chameleon whose soles had worn down. Chameleons are form fitting so are initially hard to get on. It gets better and is actually a feature of the shoe. I wear these daily including when I golf. I walk 2-3 miles a day and never have problems with my feet. Also like the waterproofing, especially on wet golf courses. Highly recommend.

Quite literally, Merrell shoes are the only kind my son will wear. It started 10 or 12 years ago and he has not faltered. He has worn the Chameleon for most of that time. They are comfortable, hard working shoe that gets daily wear from him. He walks on his job at a local university campus and believes these shoes are the key to keeping his feet dry and comfortable. He has a pair he uses for outside recreational activities too. Awesome shoes!

I absolutely love these shoes! A great athletic look and feel, with terrific grip. You need to wear a thinner athletic sock, rather than a "hiking" sock, because they're made to stretch onto your foot (hence the name). And the quality is top-notch. Five stars.

I love this shoe. I noticed several of the other reviews said this shoe was narrow, but I'm wondering if they only put the shoe on for a short period of time. When you first put it on it does feel narrow, but it is well cushioned and very flexible. Other tight fitting shoes often hurt more if you wear them for long periods, but these are just the opposite, the more you wear them the better they feel. They are more like wearing socks than shoes (I love that). Having said that, they are narrow and if you have wide feet they are probably not for you, but if you have average feet, please give them try and maybe go a half size larger. If you have narrow feet (like me), you're going to love them.

These are great light-hiking shoes for a medium width foot. They do relax some after a couple weeks of use. I'm buying another pair.

This shoe fits well. A bit tight at first, but after a couple weeks they are worn in while still offering support and feeling solid. (For me the reviews about the narrowness/tightness of the shoe was a selling point.) Love the style, an improvement over the previous year.

just received these and put them on. I read some of the negative reviews so paying attention to those first. I agree these do make a slight swooshing sound when you walk in them. I think it may have something to do with the water proofing but its no worse than the sound of say the material of a winter coat swishing when you walk so I'm going to deal with it. Initial looks are great. Really like the style. They are absolutely on the snug side both in length and width but the Chameleons I'm replacing were snug when I got them and they broke in over time. These are difficult to get on (the heel is very snug) without a shoe horn so if you don't have one, get one. I'm sure this will give a little with time, but honestly since these don't have traditional laces I want it to be snug so rocks don't get in when hiking. If you wear heavy weight socks you will absolutely need to go up 1 size or at least 1/2 size. Net net, good so far. we'll see with time.

Despite only getting 3 stars I bought these anyway. I really like them! Very comfortable and great for outdoor activities like fishing. Great in Sand and definitely keep my feet dry. The only issue I have is that they are tough to put on but as I continue to wear them they are loosening up. Overall i'm very happy with them.

These are tight around the ankle, which I like but others might not. The big problem I have with these is the squeaking noise they make. It didn't happen at first but after several wearings a noticeable squeak occurs with each step, sounding like rubbing two pieces of styrofoam against one another. I've tried changing insoles, adding powder -- no good. I bought two other pairs of the same shoe for my sons -- they've had no problem with noise. I'm going to see if Zappos will take them back and exchange them for the non-waterproof version, which others have suggested is the problem.
