Absolutely no support around the ankle - older person walking in them almost fell just walking down the hall as ankle padding is very soft with no support, except for a flimsy plastic strip on outside of shoe meant to provide support but clearly not enough. The WW1765 shoe was found to be much better and also provides very good arch support.

Finally they have made something in this last (sl-2) that doesn't look orthopedic. This shoe is everything I have ever wanted - narrow heel, wide toe box, and the arch support is amazing (I sometimes suffer from plantar fasciitis and am very picky - these are so great I don't even need to wear my orthotic) while fashionable enough to wear out of the gym. The cushioning is outstanding, too. It's like walking on air.They run typical for NBs in size - I usually wear an 11 in athletic shoes and boots, and I wear an 11 in these.

No stability! Wearing these shoes made me walk wobbly. I know my weak ankles with chronic tendonitis would hate these after a few hours. I'm returning. Too bad, because I finally found a shoe that is wide enough to fit my feet!!

The best shoe I have ever had. Cushioning and arch support are outstanding. I liked the choice of wide sizes. Has really improved my sore foot due to overusing exercise machine. Worth the money.

I was hesitant to spend this kind money on sneakers, but they are worth every penny. Excellent arch support, narrow in the heel and wide in the toe box, just what my poor beat-up feet need. IMO, not the most aesthetically pleasing shoe, but I've gotten compliments on them. Would buy again.

Love these sneakers! I purchased the wide because of my hammer toe. The wide in the toes was perfect and the heel was fine, not to wide, no slipping. I also have plantar fasciitis, and removed the insole for my orthotics. (I bought a cheap pair of flat insoles so that I could use my orthotics without shoe being to tight). I work 12 hour shifts and these sneakers are great!

Perfect for wide feet, foot problems, toe problems, use of Orthotics. True to size with room for Orthotics. Better looking and good construction than most shoes out there. Worth the price. Comfortable.

These shoes are a home run with us! For the negative reviews, please remember every shoe is not made for every person. New Balance uses different size last (the base on which the shoe is modeled - i.e. width at toe box and width at heel) - all companies do. My 12 year old daughter has XX wide toe box (the front of her foot), a high arch, and a regular heel - finding shoes is crazy hard. With this shoe we love the mesh sides, which lets the shoe fit to your foot. We love that the side supports are separate from the mesh which allows you to fit the shoe exactly to your specific foot - it laces over her high arch, allowing a perfect fit for her. The heel is regular - her feet usually slip out of shoes that are xx-wide front to back. Came back to order a second pair, and no more size 9.5 xx wide. Ready to cry! It is that hard to find shoes for her. We bought these for school for gym this week, so not sure on how they will hold up. NB makes an excellent shoe.

I'm glad that I didn't read any reviews before I bought these or I might have passed on them. They are PERFECT for my needs. I have one bad foot (arthritis, bunion, etc.) that is almost impossible to buy shoes for because nothing feels good for that foot. These are very lightweight, and the toe box is incredibly roomy. My bad foot didn't hurt anywhere because of the extra room. The shoes themselves are wonderfully cushiony. I don't understand the comment about it feeling like walking on concrete at all. I don't think I've worn a more cushiony shoe than this one, and that includes VERY expensive shoes such as the Finn Comfort line. As for the heel, I agree with the other comments that the heel area is loose. BUT that's what I want. For some reason my heels are really sensitive to shoes that are too tight and this is the first pair of shoes that I've worn that doesn't bother my heels. I wear orthotics with my shoes but these feel so good that I've worn them both with and without my orthotics. So, the bottom line on these is that they might or might not work for you, but with Zappos generous free shipping policy I suggest you give them a try to see if they work for you.

These appear to be great shoes. I have worn a size 10 for years, in both New Balance and other shoes. However, my toes were right at the end of the net top in these shoes. They run at least a half-size small. I am going to re-order in both a size 10.5 and 11 and see which one fits best. The insole in these shoes is unbelievably thick. Truly the thickest insole with good arch support I think I have ever seen in a shoe, so I hope ordering a slightly larger size works out well.

My only complaint about this shoe is the lack of lateral support. When I moved laterally during a work out, I noticed that my feet kept rolling outwards. This shoe is not a suitable option for those who need serious ankle support.

This is the FIRST walking shoe I've been able to wear without pain for 15 years!!! Thank you to New Balance for finally making a shoe that is not only wide enough, but doesn't have all those fancy seams running all across the shoe! The arch support is excellent - I don't even have to wear any orthotics or added arches. There isn't much ankle support but I guess that's expected in a running/walking shoe. The white color is horrible - never cleans and always looks dingy and dirty, but I also bought a pair of the poison berries and they are great. I was surprised the toes didn't wear out through the fabric even after a year of wear, but it is very strong. The only thing I don't like about them is they are not water-proof and where I live it rains a lot so walking means cold and wet feet. And they are very expensive, but I'm so happy to finally have found a pair of shoes I can wear I'd nearly pay any price!

Unfortunately, the really great arch support in these shoes did not match up with my high arches, leaving my arch unsupported and the rest of my feet uncomfortably pressured. What a shame!

At 1st I thought the box was empty. This shoe is very light. However it gave me no support on the sides and ankle. But it did feel like walking on a cloud.

These shoes had lots of padding which is sometimes a good thing, but this shoe made my foot feel like it was wrapped in a pillow. Too much! Also makes your foot look bigger. It was also wider than expected, and sizing up probably wouldn't be necessary. Best feature was the large expanse of mesh that would accommodate foot problems like hammertoes or bunions.

These were comfortable enough & I guess I should have read the description a little better - these have mesh uppers instead of leather and I think for the price they should be leather uppers

Love the shoe. Great for my troubled toes. Soft front fabric but no support in the heel.

This is one strange shoe! It's huge and very heavy, The styling makes me think of orthopedic saddle shoes. The insert is excellent---NB should put it in all their shoes.

Unfortunately I've worn this shoe so I can't return it. It's not a good shoe for Plantar Fasciitis (according to my Podiatrist) because the heel is too squishy. And, while it is cushy, it does make me feel less stable when I walk. It will have to go to Goodwill, barely worn. Live and learn!

This shoe is huge. My feet are 11A. I usually wear 10.5 or 11B. I ordered the 11 medium and the length was good, but this shoe made my foot look twice its size. The cushioning is great, but the width and overall feel of the shoe is big. My heel slightly slipped. I'm sending back. I ordered the 1260v5 and that one fits perfect, not to mention my feet look their usual size.

These shoes are extremely comfortable...until you walk in them. Even though I ordered the size I usually wear (9.5 EE), I felt as though my feet were going to slip out of the shoe with every step. Also, I felt as though I were going to tip over. The side "supports" are just for decoration. This shoe is really just mesh all along the sides and the top, so there is no side support. For such an expensive shoe, I was expecting much better performance. I am hoping to return the shoes, even though I wore them for an entire day at work.

These shoes are very light on my feet. The arch support was good but I found the movement side to side extremely uncomfortable.

These shoes are so dang cute! And believe me, they are even cuter in-person! I so wanted these to work but the arch support is so high just standing in them I could "seesaw" back-and-forth! My spirits were dashed. I know the reviews are mixed on here. And yes, I knew I was taking a risk...one that didn't pan out. I'd say spare yourself the pain and get something that is a sure win. Off to the post office to return. Happy shopping ladies.
