I'm one of those guys that researches and analyzes ad nauseam before buying something if it's anything I care about. This is my first purchase from Arc'teryx and it was a hard one to make because of the price, and also because it seems like there are other great sounding jackets on offer such as the Proton AR, which admittedly I'm still curious about. As for this jacket, it meets the high expectations I had going in based on what I've heard about the company and the high reputation of the Atom line. It's so light that it's hard to believe it's going to keep you warm, but it does the job. I own a nice down jacket, and I can confidently say this jacket's synthetic insulation is a great alternative, and I'm surprised to say that. Other things I like about this jacket: the pockets are heavenly, the hood is really nice and is effective if you're feeling chilly and need some added warmth in a pinch, and the jacket frankly looks really good from a fashion standpoint. As far as things I'm less excited about: this jacket is very difficult to size for me. I'm 5'9" and 140 pounds, so you'd think I could just get the small and move on, but I was surprised to find the length of the jacket itself and the sleeves to be too short at size small, so I was forced to size up to a medium where the fit on the torso isn't as good as the small, so it just seems confusing from a design standpoint as my arms and torso aren't unusually long. Just letting smaller framed men know this could be an issue for you. I'm also not sure about the long term durability with this jacket. I've only owned it for a couple months so far, so we'll just have to see how it plays out going forward. Overall, this is a nice jacket, and I'll be looking to add more from this company as time goes on.

I bought this jacket to replace an Atom LT because I run cold all the time and wanted something a little bit warmer than the LT. This jacket delivers in added warmth without feeling too bulky. I have worn in down to about 40 degrees F and stayed comfortable with a thin long-sleeved shirt underneath. I have yet to wear it in colder weather. My favorite part about this jacket is the soft cuffs on the sleeves. I have not found another jacket out there with cuffs as comfortable and this matters to me. The reason for the 4 star rating instead of 5 stars is that the hand warmer pockets are too tiny for pretty much anything. I have very small hands and cannot fit them comfortably in these pockets. Any type of cell phone will fall out if not zipped. This jacket would be perfect if the pockets were bigger. I gave my old Atom LT to my daughter and now regret it. I will be purchasing another one soon as it was my favorite jacket of all time. The Atom AR is a close second to the LT.

It was the only insulated jacket I used during my trip to Mont Blanc and It was more than enought. I kept me warm. It's one of the best insulated jackets I have vern owned. It works perfectly with my Alpha SV jacket.

Great three season jacket. Room for layers although fit is difficult. 6 feet tall, 160 pounds and bought medium, just a bit too small in arms and length, large fits well in arms and length but excess room in chest even with layers. Still good value for cost.

This is a fantastic Jacket from a premium brand. Badly let down by the zip, which doesn't catch. If you walk with your hands in your pockets the zip comes down and the jacket opens up. Really stunned no-one in product design let this through.

I got this jacket to keep me warm when I stand outside for 3-6 hours. It's a little bulky compared to what I was imagining. I like it regardless except I want more and bigger pockets. My phone and hands barely fit in the hand pockets and the internal pocket isn't very deep. Otherwise, it's great.

I needed a synthetic mid-layer to replace a competing brand I am unhappy with. I broke it in with a 6 mile hike at 34F. It did the job but got too hot after 3 miles. I'll be looking for a fleece mid-layer also to switch into. I wore a non gore-tex shell but went without it for half my hike and a light baselayer. Im very disappointed with the lack of any kind of pants at stores which just cater to fashion trends. I need real technical gear. All of my gear stays in my back pack in my car because I hike almost every day, training for mountaineering. I don't intend to walk around town dressed like I came from Everest.

I love this jacket, but wish I had taken the time to try on the men's version. I have a women's medium and the side pockets are impractically small. My ungloved hand barely fits inside (I have normal sized hands) and if I'm wearing a light fleece glove or have my phone in the pocket then 1/4 of my hand sticks out. The men's version has larger pockets and I really wish women's versions had equivalent features. Apart from that I love the jacket. It's great for camping in cool and possibly wet weather. It was plenty warm enough to climb in Indian Creek in November with and lately it's been my go to for slacklining in freezing temps.

I took a chance on the Atom AR as I find Arc'teryx products expensive but read many positive reviews and thought it may be good for my application. I hike about 80 km a month. I use a goretex pro shell and a variety of base layers - mostly merino wool products. I have found the Atom AR Hoody warm, light weight and to breathe well enough. But what I love is the Core loft insulation. For a nice light garment it insulates incredibly well. Moreover, when sweat travels through my garments it keeps its warmth, unlike down (hydrophobic down notwithstanding). I can see why so many people who are active out in the cold love this piece. As a general mid layer under a shell, my limit is no more than -3 degrees Celsius with this piece. After that I'm into my hydrophobic down. But certainly recommended and the insulated hood is so worth it.

I purchased the Cerium LT Hoody and Atom AR Hoody as two alternative insulation layers for skiing with a Sidewinder jacket. I tried wearing the Cerium with a fleece & the Atom AR with a micro fleece on alternate days. The Atom AR works particularly well with the sidewinder jacket - it's extremely warm, and the Sidewinder/Atom hoods both fit nicely over a helmet. A toasty combination when temperature falls below -10c! Sizing - I am 5'11" & 12 stone (168 pounds). The sidewinder in medium, Atom AR in medium & Cerium LT in large.

In person this jacket looked very plain and boxy. It resembled a popular construction brand jacket from a big box store. Material felt like it would tear easily, but overall it just had no style. It would probably do the trick for warmth it seemed, but we returned it after trying it on.

I have about 20 Atom AR jackets because it is my absolute favorite jacket. I have it in every color way practically. It is the most versatile piece of clothing I own. It is warm, light and wind resistant. The versions from 2019 and earlier are superior in fit, cut, and performance. The updated version has a bulkier, longer cut with an awkwardly tall collar amd large hood. What made the precious atom ar so amazing with the tailored fit and warmth. This new version has a collar that goes over my mouth when zipped up. This makes zipping up the jacket uncomfortable unless you want to cover your mouth. The older versions of the hood fit very close to the head and didn't need much adjusting. The new hood is meant for a helmet. I like the version before to wear under my helmet. I DO LOVE the lover cut of the jacket because I am 5'8 127 athletic build. This version fits my long torso, but I find my Norma medium size is too big. The length is great and good for athletic shoulders. But it is way to baggy and bulky. The color way of phantasms is great. Wish they'd make this in Timelapse color way. Overall this is the BEST jacket made by Arcteryx Judy keep in mind your. Or Al Arcteryx size might not be the same in the more roomy version

185cm, 75kg

I was hesitant to purchase a somewhat expensive coat but shortly after doing so I couldn't be happier with my decision. I thought I would never stop wearing this coat. Unfortunately this coat did not stand the test of time and is starting to fall apart. I wear it as an every day coat/ commute coat and take good care of it. I used to wear it as my winter coat in Alberta with nothing but a t-shirt underneath, now it is barely useful unless it is spring.

I'm 5'7" with a 46" chest and very large build in general, but fit. So it is very hard to find jackets that fit right and don't have tons of unnecessary fabric in the lower abdomen. I was hopeful that the atom AR would fit, but the elbows shoulders and armpits were all way too tight. The older model of this jacket had a more stretchy fabric. This made the fit work much better. The new face fabric is not at all flexible and feels weaker in general, and if it's tight it pulls the fabric everywhere, which makes it uncomfortable and looks bad. If you are skinny and have narrow shoulders, I'm sure this is a five Star jacket. I'm just bummed they switched materials and don't make jackets for muscular builds.

My first purchase with arcteryx after it was highly recommended bij a colleague runner. The description on the site suggests that you buy a very special, handmade, designed by two outdoor climbers jacket. I hesitated quite some time to spend so much money. Unfortunately when I received it, it did not have the suggested quality. The zipper is sewn in by machine and is wrinkling the jacket, several sharp edges and only 'reasonably warm'. It has the quality signature of an average H&M jacket.

This jacket is fantastic, except for its sizing and fit. That alone is reason not to recommend this jacket, for it really makes it that uncomfortable. After having to go a size up, it still doesn't fit in the arms, shoulders, and wrist. Unless wearing this jacket only with trim t shirt underneath, it's frustratingly uncomfortable because the wrists are too small, the arms are too thin, and the armpits are too high to accommodate anything other than a skin tight shirt.

Bought this 1.5 year ago, this is my second winter with this jacket. I really love this jacket, it's lightweight, warm and cozy. However, the fabric is not so durable. The fabric started getting damaged just by scratching against my beard within the first 2 months of usage. It's getting worst day by day. I was really surprised to see this, considering the price of the jacket. I wish the fabric could be more abrasion-resistant. I was really considering to buy another AR hoody, as i really love this jacket. However, I don't know if it is just a quality issue related to my jacket, or other people have experienced something similar. I would have easily given 5 stars for the jacket, but just because of the fabric durability I would give 2 stars.

Had this about a year. It's been great up until the first time I wore a backpack with it this weekend. This has happened with my atom SL too. The AR feels more robust and thought I would get away with it but again.. no I see this so many times with the atom line. You pay a premium price for a technical outdoor piece that can't withstand short periods with a backpack. The backpack was also Arcteryx (brize 32) so you'd think they'd ensure this wouldn't happen. Never had anything like this occur on my less expensive pieces from rab and mountain equipment. Love the look and warmth this gives but simply not durable.

I've had this for over a year, but 6 mths into the jacket, a small branch ripped through fabric. So while it is comfortable and can be worn in various temperatures (for me, 0 to 20C), the outer layer is very prone to get hooked and tear.
