I had read a lot of reviews about the Atom shedding it's down...however I haven't seen any of that yet. So far this is an awesome jacket and I can't get over how it's at the same time very warm but also really breathable. So that means when I go inside I don't have to take it off. It doesn't specifically talk about being very water resistant, but I live in Oregon and I have put it through some paces in terms of rain and it's been amazing so far. Have yet to feel wet. Will definitely keep shopping here!!!

When I read that this jacket was warmer than both of the Cerium Lt and the Thorium AR, in the Q&A section, I decided to purchase this jacket. I figured the AR was cheaper (for the cerium, the thorium ar is $10 cheaper than atom ar) and more durable than the down jackets, plus it has the added advantage in wet weather. I am happy with my decision.
I work in an extremely wealthy area of Chicago and get compliments from my much wealthier clients about how good the jacket looks. I think the sythetic jackets look much nicer than the bubbly down jackets. And, I did not have to sacrifice warmth.
It is also extremely durable. I work with dogs and have pups frequently jumping on me and the jacket has not suffered any problems after months of use. I was a little afraid as my brooks range jacket suffered some scratches in the fabric from my tough love.
I use this jacket in conjunction wiyh the Alpha Fl hardshell and a Fortrez hoody. I love the balaclava in the fortrez and they all fit well on me in M (I am 5'8"). I run cold and have been warm so far this winter. I am looking forward to getting some sub 0 F weather so I can really test my set up. So far, I have been spending my work days outside in the Chicago area everyday and been happy. Can't wait till I get to take this stuff out west and really test it.

The winters in MN get pretty cold. Atom LT just dont cut it up here unless your really active and even then a breeze can chill you. Thats why I purchased the Atom AR after reading the description and reviews. This is the insulation piece I have been searching for. Very warm, breathable, cut in a trim fit so it layers under a shell nicely.
I have used many competitors to Arcteryx over the last 18 years and they just have not been as durable as I hoped. Finally I spent the money on a Beta AR shell which has been bullet proof so I purchased the Beta AR shell pants which are also awesome (I insulate those with patagonia wader fleece pants).

Cool product. Very comfy and crazy warm. I personal feel it is quite much warmer than the atom SV. Not only it is 20g more insulation, but it is also trimmer and get closer to the body. It traps warm air better. The athletic fit provide good mobility as well.
I once walked with it in around 10 c in light rain to my office. I finally found i have to unzipped completely for cooling down. It is more suitable for colder condition (eg below freezing ) as it is a very warm stuff. Anyway, i recieved many compliments.

Recently bought this jacket to replace my trusted Atom LT. Living in the North East of England where winters are cold and windy, this jacket fits the bill perfectly. The DWR finish has also come in handy when it rains, which is quite often, and I havent taken a shell. The added feature of being able to adjust the volume of the hood is also incredibly usuful.
I have just returned from a trip to Poland where the temperatures were -10oC at times, possibly colder with wind chill, and I was comfortable even when standing for long periods of time in the open air on sightseeing trips.
Works well, looks great.

I have the LT as well, and I like the AR much more. The Atom LT is good for cool days, but with the side paneling you loose a lot of heat. This Atom AR is a solid jacket. I like putting it on under a shell on cold ski touring days, or at a belay. The cuffs are super awesome, and comfortable with gloves. The zipper is super smooth. If Id change anything Id get a medium instead of small, in order for it to be a little longer down my waist. GREAT PIECE

I wear this under my Beta AR shell and it's a perfect layering jacket. I also wear it by itself and it is very responsive. Never too hot and never cold in it. Fits true to size. I'm 5'3" and 105 and wear an XS. Definitely recommend this jacket.

I love this jacket. I bought it as an outer layer for cool dry days, and am finding I am wearing it all the time: not just when I'm out for an outdoorsy adventure, but also when the office gets a little chilly; walking my kids to school; running errands around town. You could just wear a t-shirt under it and be very comfortable. Even if a little rain is falling, it seems to bead right off, though I'm not sure how it would hold up in a full-on rainstorm. Having small children I usually have a bag full of stuff for them, so I like that this jacket scrunches up reasonably small when I don't need it.
FIT: I am tall (5'10") and solid, so I am sometimes a large in Arc'teryx product and sometimes a medium. In this case, I wear a medium comfortably.
USE: It keeps me toasty, super toasty, so if you don't often get chilled, you might find it is too warm to be useful. This is why I haven't used it yet for any exertion-heavy activities, but now that winter is here that may change. I have been using it a lot lately on the cold and rainy days around town just layered under my Beta AR jacket, and wow, what a combo. I have never been so dry and warm in my life. For the first time ever I don't really mind standing and waiting for the bus in the rain.

I love this jacket living in Vancouver.
It's modern and casual design means you can wear it for so many things.
It repels the rain well and being Coreloft the jacket remains warm.
It's cuffs are super soft and the hood is super cosy and fits well.
It packs up small so you can have it in your pack for extra layering or sitting in a hut after hikes.
This is a great all round jacket that you won't want to take off.

Love this jacket! It is like wearing a little sleeping bag!
Pretty light and packs up to a decent size, and is so cozy! The sleeve design is brilliant, and does not let the cold up through the sleeves. I like that it fits a little loose and a little on the bigger side, makes it a perfect layering piece.
Can't say enough good things about it :)

I ordered both the medium and large; the medium is trim so if your seeking a jacket to use with a base layer and thin mid layer then go with the medium. Here in Michigan we got horrid a winter last year, I wanted a insulating jacket that I could where a base or t shirt and a flannel or pull over (covert 1/4 zip) and not be squeezing into the jacket. The large fit the bill for what I was looking for, the medium was just too trim. I am a medium 32-33 inch waist with 40 inch chest and 5 '10. If I were still living in Colorado and bought this specific for mountaineering, I would have gone with a medium. The large is more versatile. Additionally the redesign is great, arms are 80g of coreloft and the hood is functional. Its warm, real warm and sizing still allowss a goretex to be worm over it when it really hits the fan. Its another Arcteryx piece that will see years of use, my alpine bibs are 12 years old and still 100% bomber. These guys put out the best product on the street.

I have had my Atom AR Hoody a week now. It's just amazing! I'm a medium in my Atom LT Vest and as this is a jacket I went for large. The fit is spot on. Snug and looks great. Happy chappy!

My Atom hoody is one of my most versatile and well-traveled jackets. It's warm enough to wear on its own yet also great as a base layer for skiing, making it useful year-round.
However, after washing it recently, I noticed it didn't hold up as well as I had hoped. The material has started to bunch on the back and the overall construction seems less durable.
While the black colour does help hide some of these issues, I wish Arc'teryx had used a more heavy-duty, abrasion-resistant fabric.
Despite these concerns, my Atom hoody remains a simple, versatile jacket that I frequently pack for travel and adventures. Its lightweight yet cozy design means it's suitable for a range of temperatures and activities. I only wish its construction matched its comfort and versatility, as I'd like this jacket to remain a staple in my wardrobe for years to come.
Overall, my Atom hoody is a great do-everything jacket with room for improvement on durability and longevity.

I've been using this jacket for nearly 2 years. It's my go-to everyday coat in the winter in B.C., Canada. I'm in the interior region where it's much colder than Vancouver. So we get cold snaps down to -30C. The AR covers me down til around -10 or so (t-shirt underneath). I'm 5'11 190lb and I bought an XL. It's pretty boxy, and I definitely wish I bought a large. I went with an XL hoping to gain some length, but I really just gained a lot of girth. It would fit much better if I were fat lol. Anyways, I wish arcteryx would make a version thats 1-2" longer and has better colors. Such The dried dusty rose color for the gamma SL was nice, same with labrynth, as well as the light blue for the 2019 Magnus. But I definitely recommend the jacket, I wear mine everyday and it looks as good as the day I bought it. I love this jacket.

I've been looking at many types of synthetic jackets for a while now. I finally chose the Atom AR, I'm super impressed by the quality and workmanship. It's already done a few outings in the hills of North Wales, I've used it as a stand-alone with a base layer so far and it has performed really well, one day in particular it was blowing up to 40mph and the jacket worked just great.

Very lightweight, keeps me warm and has just the right amount of pockets. Wish I got a size up just because I like a little bit of extra room.

I wear this jacket in -10 to 10 weather. If I need more warmth, I can just add a hoodie underneath. I do wish this jacket was cheaper though.

While not enough for truly frigid temps. this jacket is a great mid/outer layer for cool to cold days out in the mountains. My only gripe, and I don't understand why Arc'teryx doesn't do this; is that the jacket does not have internal dump pockets. Put some mesh, or other thin stretchy material for two internal dump pockets. They are an Extremely handy feature.

I've had this jacket (Large) a few weeks now and generally pretty happy with it. It's warm as a solo jacket on cold days and when the wind comes up it pairs with a beta AR (large) well. I'm 200 lbs and 6' with an athletic build and the large fits well. If anything I wish it had a bit more athletic cut to it. It's a bit bulky around the core. I wonder if it's time for an update of new fabric or design to bring down the bulk and keep the warmth up.
All in all a nice warm jacket.

Really sweet, insulated jacket. Great for walking/hiking in northern New England for fall/spring. Equally adept in the city with a soft patina and fashionable cut. Love the hood!
I have only had this jacket for 1 month and have not hiked it hard or used it through a winter in the WMNF. Will likely wear it under my Beta AR in foul weather but can't speak to the performance or durability yet.
Sizing: I am 5'7" 160#, 31" waist, 40" chest. I tried the Small, but it was too tight in the chest and upper arms. Went with the Medium and love it, though it is a bit long in length and in the sleeve. I can fit a flannel under it comfortably and it fits pretty well under my Small Beta AR.
I am a longtime mountain guy. Gave it 4 stars because I have not field tested it. Will report back after a year of wear.

Got a new version of the jacket. Everything I love as per usual. Except: 1) why, for the red and mustard colors, is the inside black?! terrible design choice. 2) why are we using cheap plastic zipper pulls?
Also seems like the sizing has changed - though not entirely sure.

I bought this in a XL, it tends to shrink in warm/hot water. Wish I had bought the Proton Hoody in a XXL instead.

Overall, this is a wonderful jacket. Confidently keeps you warm alone from like anything above 30 degrees (F), recommend putting a layer underneath for anything under 30 degrees. Very comfortable and fits well, only thing that could use improvement is the zipper, and it unzips fairly easily with lots of movement. However, the zipper alone isn't enough to not get the jacket.
