I wish these shorts had worked for me , but they were 'short in the stride'. They fit more like a pair of men's shorts might fit. When I first tried them on I loved them, but after walking in them for 5 minutes I realized I was constantly pulling down the wIst so that I didn't have a continual 'wedgey'. The quality is excellent, except for that. And I made the mistake of cutting out a scratchy tag so I could not return them.

The medium was a little snug for me, so I sent these back and got a large. The large didn't work as they were too big around the waist. When I tightened the string it made the waistband wavy, and didn't tighten them up enough. I really wanted these shorts to work because the sunset red is beyond beautiful. The material is amazing. I think the medium would have been ok, but I wanted a little more room in them for bending over and sitting down. The waist was fine- not too tight there. For reference I'm 5' 7" and weigh 150lbs.

I had bought a similar pair of this style of shorts at least 15 years ago, and I still wear them, but they are starting to show their age, and need to be replaced. I hoped the Sandy River Shorts were similar in fabric and style, but the inseam length was too short (5 inches). The original pair I bought years ago have an inseam of about 8 or 9 inches. I hope Columbia will make this style and fabric of shorts in a longer inseam length

I was disappointed with the shorts for 2 reasons. They fit pretty small and they don't have a liner in them. I'm looking for a "true" swim short with a liner, so this didn't fit the bill.

These are closer to a 16 than a 14, so they are a bit large for me. Candy Mint is true to the color on my monitor.

The colors and fabric were great but were too short. They may have run a little small.

I have a pool service company in Texas and these shorts are great for the hot temperatures. They dry quickly and hold up very well. I am disappointed with the changes they have made to the fit of these compared to a couple years ago. It seems the legs are wider and shorter and the waist is lower. I am bending and squatting all day long and the legs on these tend to roll up where the older model did not. The older model I was very comfortable in the large but now I have to get the extra large that just doesn't have the same fit. I guess since I am older I do not like an athletic type short below the waist so I am not thrilled about the new cut. I haven't found any other short that is as comfortable, breathable and light weight to withstand the heat.

It took an hour of wearing these to figure out the issue: the fabric has no give. I got the 3-in inseam x-small. I'm 5'5", 117lbs and was happy that the waist fits comfortably without needing the drawstring. Something felt funny though. The fabric pulls when you bend and feels a tad uncomfortable. The material is crunchy and and stiff. These are fine for the river, but not comfortable for around the house or running. I have backpacks softer than these. Wrinkles do show in the bends of the legs. Navy color is accurate.

These fit weirdly in the front crotch, like they were made for a man. There's this extra pouch of fabric...I'm not liking that look at all.

I love the color and the length of these shorts.. but there's definitely more fabric on my left leg than my right leg. Whenever I walk, I feel much more restricted from my right leg and the fabric hits my thigh tightly. There's no stretch to the fabric, so this makes the shorts pretty uncomfortable. I'm really disappointed.

These used to be my favorite "knock around" shorts, but obviously quality control has slipped considerably. I purchased 3 pairs (3 different colors) labelled as 5" inseam. As you can see from the tape measure in my photo, the inseam is almost a full inch shy of 5". These should be labelled 4" inseam. I can only imagine how skimpy the ones sold as 3" inseam must be. Really a shame that such a fine brand would let quality (and value) slip so dramatically. But I'm sure it saves you LOTS of money on fabric!

I didn't think I ordered a "short" but both pairs came as Short. They are too short. Cut me in the crotch, too, and tight to pull on. The fabric is lighter weight than I expected although is a microfiber like, which is what I wanted. Couldn't wear so I am returning.

OK shorts, but the rise is too low, so the waistband sits below the waist, causing them to constantly want to ride up. I took a chance and ordered them in spite of the lack of rise measurement in the description, something I won't do again. I like the quality of Columbia Sportswear's products, but I won't be a returning customer until they start including this information in the product description.

sizing was spot on but the material was kind of stiff and for sensitive skin it rubbed my inner thigh. If you don't have sensitive skin, it would be a great product to have on hand.

I have a pair of these shorts that are over 7-8 years old. I love their durability so ordered two more pair online. Sadly, the new shorts aren't made as well. The original shorts were made in Sri Lanka and were thicker, a tad longer and larger. The new shorts (same model) are made in Vietnam and MUCH more flimsy in make and material. They're extremely thin! The slight difference in fit is not a big deal, but I don't see these shorts will lasting over year with regular wear. =(

The shorts I ordered in a medium fit, but when sitting the legs roll up. I used them for Kayaking and had to unroll the legs when I finished my trip. I will probably try to make the slits on the sides of the legs larger.

I ordere extra small same as last year but this year's fall off me. Last year's are comfortable and also came with a belt to take up a little extra space. These were at least two inches too big in the waist. If they fit, they're nice, but there is no place to go beyond extra small. Teh blue is a lot brighter turquoise than it looks on my computer screen, just in case you were not looking for a bright colored pair of shorts.

First off, I've ordered many pairs of shorts from Columbia and have consistently had the same problems. Believe the negative reviews. Legs are tight and the waist is HUGE. I'm talking M in the legs, XL in the waist.
