Good for misty drizzle overcast weather, light enough for traveling and transitional temperatures. However it is not waterproof as it should be. In rain it does not hold up and water seeps through. Don't expect it to keep you dry when you are active in the rain.

Not waterproof, I took this on a backpacking trip and was soaked through after about an hour in mild rain. The inside membrane began de-laminating about a month after I bought it. I was able to warranty it, but then new one I was sent did the same thing about 2 months in.

Just tested this jacket out on my small family vacation in Gatlinburg, TH. It was down-pouring all week. It wasn't a light rain either. The whole time I was there I was dry. My jacket appeared to be soaked on the outside, but I was warm and dry on the inside. After I got home and took the jacket off, it was completely dry in 20 minutes tops! I would give it ten stars if I could. Everyone in my family was asking where I got it and how much it was. I of course got mine in the off season (winter), so it was significantly cheaper... but it's worth every cent!

Love this jacket. Fit true to size with room for a layer for colder weather, stopped the rain beautifully during a football game. Would buy another if it came in Orange! Material is a little stiff but I imagine it will soften a bit over time.

The style and fit was perfect.
I need a waterproof jacket because I live in the PNW and am outside for hrs on a daily bases walking doggies. Since this is a gortex jacket I thought it would be perfect. Unfortunately it is not waterproof as it claims :(. In light drizzle for a short time, it will beed up and keep you dry but anything heavier than a dryzzle the jacket won't do the job. The pockets don't keep your items dry. And my clothing underneath would get wet. I thought it was just a "bad apple" so I returned it and ordered a new one but I don't have high hopes after reading the reviews and seeing others were stating the same problem of the jacket not being waterproof. I'm really disappointed in North Face. One reviewer was even told that because the jacket past their testing when she sent it in. They were standing behind the product. If you need a waterproof jacket don't buy this! I

I have had this jacket for six months and while it is stylish, it is not worth the price. It isn't waterproof, so it can't be taken hiking or backpacking where there is even a chance of rain. I used it for a two week trip to Scotland in the summer and it offered relief from wind, but as soon as it rained I was soaked. Better jackets for this price.

I bought this jacket for downhill skiing and snowshoeing because I can use it as a top layer. I wanted a jacket that wasn't too hot or bulky and this one does the trick. I will use it for extreme cold weather running too. This jacket will last me for a decade I expect.

Just returned to where I purchased it. First time I really needed the waterproofing and it was a complete bust. Water seeped through the material, as well as through the seams.

I was soaked through after 5 minutes in the rain in this jacket. Took jacket off and there was a layer of water on entire inside of jacket, it was so soaked! Sent it back to TNF and they returned it to me, stating the jacket "repelled moisture" in their lab and it "passed the lab test standard for Gore-Tex fabric."
I have been a loyal, active customer with TNF for over 20 years ... never again. My experience with this jacket has soiled my opinion of TNF, their quality and their service forever.
Don't waste your money on this one.

This is Gore-Tex and the price reflects that, but it fails to perform. I wore this twice and the sleeves were completely saturated and didn't keep me dry. It infuriates me that the customer spends hundreds of dollars for a POOR quality garment. Extremely disappointed.

Love the fabric! It does not look like or sound like a traditional rain jacket.

Looks and feels cozy. Granddsughter will receive it for Christmas. As a teen, she does not like bulky, but I want her to be warm and dry in inclement weather. This jacket makes us both happy and is stylish too!

This is a beautifully designed and well constructed garment. It's a perfect addition to my streamlined travel wardrobe. It has a tailored appearance with room for a t shirt and jacket when a few layers are needed. Stylish enough for tooling around cities and tough enough for the trails. It's perfect!

I live in Indiana and spend a lot of time outside walking and hiking with my family. The weather here is very unpredictable so I needed a lightweight raincoat to have with me. This jacket is so lightweight and breathable. I love it.

I'm in Alaska and need a rain jacket that keeps me dry, but still lets me move for outdoor recreating. This jacket dries quickly, keeps rain out, is comfortable, and well designed. The longer back allows you to sit on the ground/logs/benches without getting wet. I got this one size larger than I needed to allow for layering.
I would highly recommend this jacket for any hiking, backpacking, working outside, bonfire activities.

I debated for months between this jacket and another brand. I was specifically looking for a rain jacket treated with GoreTex. I had one from another company that is much heavier and I love that this jacket is so lightweight. The first time I wore it was during a Charleston, SC middle of the day, unexpected downpour while unloading grocery items from my car into my daughter's apartment. I stayed completely dry! The rain did not penetrate the jacket at all and the jacket was dry within 5 minutes of being inside. I LOVE this jacket! Do not hesitate to buy this rain jacket!

I needed a windproof and waterproof jacket for sailing. I wanted one that was lightweight and allowed for movement. This jacket is the perfect balance of all three. I will say that it is not insulated, so if you need to stay warm, wear layers under it.

I was a little worried after reading some reviews stating that the jacket isn't waterproof, so I tested it right when I got it. I went out in the rain and poured entire buckets over myself and remained completely dry, even after multiple attempts. So far so good, I hope it will hold up during a long hiking trip. The fit is pretty good, but I don't love the sleeves. I feel like they could let some water in.
