This is my first Hobo and overall I'm pleased. It's a perfect size, I think. I'm a big Coach fan, but find them to usually be quite heavy to lug around. This purse is not like that at all! It's quite roomy for lots of stuff, but still has a sleek and light appearance and feel. It opens wide to see all the content and not so deep that you have to dig around for things. I got the mint color, which is quite a departure for me I'm not big on buying purses in off colors b/c I like for them to blend with most outfits, particularly when they are this expensive. But I'm getting used to it and the color is very pretty. The purse fits nicely over the shoulder and is also easy to carry by the long slim handles which are great. The leather is soft and luxurious. The bottom is not firm or reinforced, so it sags a little when picked up, but it stays upright when set down on a flat surface. If you watch the video, there's a little slot on the outer back that works great for a work badge or to tuck a credit card because it's convenient to grab but safely tucked away also. May sound like a dumb thing to comment on, but I need an access badge for work and never having to dig for it in my purse is a big plus! Nice purchase.

This is one of my all-time favorite Hobo International pieces, and I have a collection of 100 or so Hobo handbags, clutches, wallets, etc. When Friar arrived, it was smaller than expected -- I had hoped to use it as a purse/light briefcase (wanted it to hold a few letter-sized folders and paperwork). The glimmer of disappointment in its size was quickly replaced with elation; smaller than what I usually carry, it's surprisingly difficult to over-stuff but carries everything I need, and with all the uber-functional pockets, the contents are neatly kept separately so that Friar retains its sleekness. The stone vintage leather is rich and oh so soft, and the bag wears well on the shoulder or in the crook of your arm. Really, Friar is just a spectacular bag -- one of the best Hobos I've seen in years! You've got to get yourself one, but not until I get another in a different color! :-)

This is a lovely bag. The leather is high quality. The interior lining is fun without being overly bright or in your face. It can hold a decent amount but it certainly will not be good for a work bag if you have files etc. But for running errands, tooling around town etc, it holds what I need (wallet, keys, lip balm, iPad, small reusable shopping bad, and a compact umbrella. The color is such that it can work with black or brown based outfits. It is a casual bag that tucks nicely under the arm for every day use. The small outer unzipped pocket is perfect for items you want to be readily available such as lip balm or keys or tissues. The outer zipped pocket is good for securing items you want easy access to but a bit more security. The top zipper zips all the way across but at either end it isn't anchored to the bad so if you are somewhere with really great pick pockets - like Barcelona's airport- be careful how you arrange your items. There is one interior zip pocket that makes this less of an issue, and it easily fits your wallet, cell, etc. There are a couple of non-zip interior pockets for organization that are very functional.

I have a couple of Hobo bags that are smooth leather with a very structured silhouette. This one is weathered and soft, and not at all structured. After five days of use, it looks old and beat up. Not happy with it at all.

I admit I thought it seemed smaller than I had envisioned, but does fit everything. The quality is top line Hobo! Love this bag. Hobo is my favorite! Love the write up about the Designer! I have a Hobo Wallet I have been using for about 6 years...and I still get compliments on it!

I purchased this because I wanted a purse that could fit my 11" Macbook Air. It is just big enough for the job. I bought this with a Frye style hobo to compare, and what really won me over on this bag was - first, it's really gorgeous leather, and second its super smart arrangement of outside and inside pockets. This bag is classy, beautiful and smartly designed. Who wouldn't want that?

Handles are too weak- began tearing after only a few months of regular use. Too bad- gray style and comfortable otherwise.

I have always loved the Hobo Friar, and I have it in about 8 colors. It is the perfect size shoulder bag, and holds a great deal of stuff. Some have reviewed the Friar and complained the two straps look flimsy-THEY ARE HARDLY FLIMSY!! My bags have taken a lot of daily abuse for several years and are still going strong. Hobo International has always been great about incorporating many pockets into its handbags, and Friar is no exception. Inside, there is a zippered compartment for my small wallet/card case + 4 slip pockets + a skinny pocket that holds both a mechanical pen and pencil. The outside has an open pocket on one side and a zippered compartment, running the entire width of the purse, on the other. I did, however, return this particular color, because it did not make as good a match as I had hoped. Still, I recommend the Hobo Friar to anyone looking for a robust shoulder bag that will give her years of good service.

The Friar won out over the Seeker style for me as it holds about the same contents and is actually less bulky.
It has features that keep it from looking too dressy - like the contrasting brown stitching and leather brown edges.
The best thing about this bag is the very useful pockets on the outside - not so deep as other bags I've had.
In particular the one near the top contains the phone perfectly, and at the same time is cleverly concealed.
On the inside in addition to the usual zipper pocked are 5 sewn in pockets -other bags I've have had included 2 of these pockets.
They're small but can secure a pen, keys or small items so they don't get lost in the bottom of the bag.
I have to say there were more useful features with the bag than I expected.
Dark green color looks black in low light, but is definitely green . Photos are a good representation.
Zappos continues to be extremely fast and dependable.

Except for the strap being short, it's a great bag for hauling around. I use it for running errands.

I love this bag! This time I bought it in the Mink color. That color can be used all year 'round. I also have the bag in 2 other colors. It's just the right size for me and my lifestyle. I' 5'tall and so many other bags are just too large for my stature. My favorite part is that outside pocket for my cellphone.

I love this bag! The leather in this line of bags is so nice -- it has a wonderful feel and it is so lightweight. The Friar is just perfect as far as I'm concerned. because for as small and light as it is, it seems to be impersonating a big bag when you put your things in it. It has a zipper pocket on the outside that is about half the height of the bag and runs the entire width, so it's handy and roomy. It's hard to see but there is a narrower but deeper pocket on the other side of the bag exterior which does not have a zipper. These features are always so handy, nice details. Inside, the zipper pocket is large and there are four slip pockets as well, which are are all nice sizes. I love this bag so much I'm going to look for another color, but I had to write the review first.

This Hobo is awesome-not a word I use often. The pockets are in just the right place and the purse itself is deep enough to keep things in but not so deep to lose things. The leather is soft and rich looking. It just looks like it will last a long, long time. Bought the black one on sale, and am going to get the stone one too. I almost sent it back because I thought it didn't have an outside pocket for a cell phone, but it's there-just a little sleeve on opposite side of outside zipper. That sealed the deal. Can you tell I'm excited? Sometimes you DO get what you pay for! And as usual, Zappos is great!

I love hobo bags. I like this one. It's smaller than I pictured. But fits my stuff. It just seems small for the price.

Loved the look, but the bottom is not flat as the picture shows. It's slouchy! Took to tailor and put in cardboard to achieve the look. Generally love Hobo. Think company should correct this if they continue making this purse.

I had high hopes because this bag fulfills my laundry list of features flat straps (not rolled), long enough drop to wear on the shoulder, but not too long to wear on the elbow. Interior and exterior pockets. I didn't like how skinny the straps are and how they attach to the bag. My friend said, "The straps make it go a little bit Sophia Petrillo." There's something "old lady" about them. Also, there's no hardware to speak of. It's missing any kind of flair or style. Maybe that's why it looks mumsy. The lack of structure in the bottom is also an issue. One saggy bottom is enough for me.

Love the color and size, but it's droopy on the bottom. I like a little more structure. Returning.

I am updating my review of Hobo Friar to add that it is a good bag for smaller-built women. I am 5'2" and I have found that most of the shoulder bags are too big for me - they end up looking funny, and I have trouble with the shoulder straps being too long. In reading other review I see some people feel the handles are too short. If you are a shorter person, check out the dimensions you may be pleasantly surprised.
Also after daily use the straps do not show signs of wear.

This is my third hobo bag of this style (Friar). I love the pocket placement and the weight of it. Not to heavy. Strap length is perfect a very sturdy. Don’t think because it’s thin that it isn’t sturdy. It is a very well made purse. Will continue buying Hobo products

This is a beautiful bag. Extremely well made, and lovely leather. I have chosen the Seeker style instead, as the straps on this bag are too thin for my preference. Had I not chosen the Seeker style this bag would have been it. Nice!

The Friar is my favorite style from Hobo. I have seven of them! This handbag is just the right size, is light weight and holds everything I need to have with me. The leather is soft. It's a beautiful handbag. I always, always receive compliments on my Friars!

I have had a Hobo wallet for a while and love the quality and feel of it. I thought it was about time I upgraded my old purse to something classier so I knew a Hobo would be perfect. I tried a bunch of different Hobo purses and this one was the clear winner, just the right size for a shoulder bag, small easy to work with straps, convenient little cell phone pocket on the outside and beautiful lining on the inside.
