I like them. Am on my 3rd pair. Wish the inside heel liner would not wear away so fast, and that is my common complaint about all the NB sneakers I have owned.

The only difference between this and the 626 model are the following features: -The price -Steel Toe -The Abzorb technology (slightly similar to Nike's Lunarlon) is more enhanced; at least I felt it as such. My Experience with these shoes as a hospital housekeeper: First, these shoes are obviously not for looks. Maybe in some places, but not most. These were made with much utility for working-class labor environments; factory labor, (maybe) construction [the sole may not be thick enough for nails, etc], carpentry, housekeeping (like me!!)...etc. And, trust me, these shoes are exactly what New Balance claimed them to be and more. As a housekeeper, I was once scared of walking through slippery or wet surfaces. Now, the only thing I fear is being too squeaky. Theses shoes can squeak quite a bit because of their non-slip properties. So, I can verify to you from walking over wet floors, chemotherapy hazardous wet floor, and pools of blood that you will not slip. Now, because of how the shoe was made; nothing comes in, and nothng comes out. What do I mean by that? I've accidentally spilled my favorite cleaning chemical, bleach, countless of times on these poor things. And, rather than detiorating or my feet being exposed to bleach, neither ever occurred. These are some darn tough shoes. My first pair was exposed to radioactive medicine, precations, and hazards all in one punch; and could have lasted me, I'm sure, months. (I had to get rid of those because they became a biological hazard). On the Steel Toe Your toes will be safe and sound. As a housekeeper, I do sometimes have to carry objects between the weight of 50lbs to 70 lbs. And, having one one of these objects fall on my toes, just once, when I used to wear 626s, instantly made me know I needed steel toe, to protect my darling little fragile toes. On Comfort Not bad, but could be better. I'm a hospital housekeeper. Aka, I don't sit down for 12 hours straight. These shoes, I'm sure will be okay for you people who work in more same environments, like factories, warehouses, and construction. But, honestly, the cushion could be much better. Now, because out of work, I'm used to wearing high-cushion Nike shoes, this did cause me some foot pain, especially standing in them for 12-hours. I even tried changing the insole for a much thicker and comfortable one for my feet, and that was only a temporary aide. Arch support was average. My own insole insert helped fix that. Width is always good if you purchase the shoe in the one your feet requires. And New Balance, unlike Nike, understands that not everyone has narrow feet. So, bonus points there. In all, I give it 4 stars. Great shoe with great working utility. But, I wish it's cushioning-caliber was on the same league as the Nike Air Max, theme it's be 5-Stars!

I was about to give up on New Balance shoes. I bought these because of the steel toe for work. Right out of the box they wore great without a break-in period. After a month they are still stiff but comfortable. It goes back to what you pay for is what you get.

Plain and simple, I love these shoes. I work retail, and after I broke these shoes in, I can wear them for a 10 hour shift and only then do my feet even START to get maybe a little sore. The outsoles grip the floor even after I've trekked through the snow. The steel toes are just a bonus.

This shoe had the steel toes required, but it is dreadfully uncomfortable.

Was comfortable for being the wrong size so that's a good thing if I got the right size but unfortunately they did not have the right size for me to exchange for however the return so far has been easy

These shoes are heavier than they need be. Not as comfortable as I thought they would be and way over priced.

They run about a size big compared to other NB shoes I have purchased in the past. look as described in pictures and hold up well for working on a car sales lot in 105 summer heat without melting

This is the second pair of these I have bought. The first pair one of the soles split across the ball of my foot. They lasted 2 years. I was very unhappy to see they no longer offer these with composite toe. Having steel makes them a lot heavier and not the best for cold weather. Other than that they are comfortable and do the job but I will probably not buy them again unless they come back out with the composite toe option.

Safety shoes are required at my work. This shoe meets the requirement. I buy these because I know they fit, they are reasonably durable, and the price fits within my employer's shoe reimbursement program. Other than that, there is no reason to rave on concerning this shoe.

The looks of the shoe was what I was hopping for however the shoes are very heavy and a little awkward. Most of the weight is in the toe of the shoe and for the first week of wearing them my steps sounded very heavy and a little awkward.

I liked almost everything about these except for the tread pattern. The almost flat sole might help traction on wet surfaces, but on the dust and debris that are the norm where I work they were dangerously slippery.

Like the title says, I really wanted to like these shoes but the toe cap on the left shoe had a bump on the inside of the shoe that rubbed on my toe. I ordered these on line so no in store fitting on these. I noticed the issue immediately when I tried them on so this might be an isolated issue that you would be able to rule out by simply buying this shoe in person. I have worn NB walking shoes exclusively for years with no problems. The issue with this particular shoe is related to the safety toe.

These are comfortable (considering they are steel toed) but not happy at how they held up. The heel cushion has shredded within 3 months of ownership. I only wore while at work and switched between another shoe every other day, therefore only wore 2 or 3 days per week about 9 hours per day. I work in a retail warehouse on a concrete floor all day and needed steel toed shoes for new regulations.

Warning for very wide feet: The steel toe at the top is a narrow.. at least with 4E NB running shoes there's some wiggle area for your toes, but mine kept getting jammed up after breaking them in for a couple months. Started getting bunched up like a hammertoe would... I wish the steel of the boot would be widened, since otherwise, it was pretty comfortable.

This was a mistake. I didn't know they were steel toe or I would not have ordered. That being said, several of my co-workers and my wife insisted I keep them, for yard work (sawing down trees, etc). I've worn them a couple of times, they are comfortable and the protect my feet. Excellent if you work in a warehouse or around heavy tools or machinery.

I was hoping for better fit from New Balance. I have the same problem with so many safety shoes. The steel toe cap cuts into my foot. So these got sent back.

After dropping some serious weight on my toes at work I decided to order these. The toe protection is very good. However, the shoe runs small, so I had to return it for a half size up. Even then, my big toes rubbed against the inside of the shoe which is quite uncomfortable and caused the skin to get red and sore. Less than a month wearing them some of the fabric on one shoe also because to detach at the seam. I'm really disappointed with these. They served their purpose well, albeit uncomfortably...for about three weeks before becoming damaged.

The shoe itself would get a five star from me but because of the shoe lace issue, I am giving it an only a three star rating. The reason is because the shoe laces keep coming untied and that is a big safety concern to me. What is the point of having safety shoes if the shoes laces keep coming untied becoming a safety hazard. I have to stop and retie my shoe laces about a dozen times a day and it is really becoming annoying. I think the shoe needs to be redesigned so the laces do not come untied or a different type of shoe laces needs to replaced so the shoes laces do not come untied.

I love my 880 and 1080 NB running shoes, so I was looking forward to a comfortable work shoe, but was terribly disappointed. I didn't expect them to be as comfortable as my running shoes, but the soles are just as hard and stiff as the boots I wanted to replace. After a shift at work, my heels were in pain. They have no arch support that I can feel under my arch, so all my weight is on my heel, and the heel is not soft at all. But the toes were even worse. Since steel doesn't stretch, the toe area should be extra wide, but it seems to be sized just like the running shoes, so my outer toes were in a lot of pain by the end of the shift. I am going to try ordering a wider size and adding my own arch supports, but the arch support should have been built in, and I am disappointed that it was not. And very disappointed that my toes were not given extra room for the steel. Hopefully the wider size gives the space my toes need. They are a great looking shoe with excellent appearance, colors, and textures.

When I first heard that NB made steel toe work shoes, I was ecstatic! I bough my first pair in 2011/2012 when they were Version 1. They were perfect out of the box. There was no need to break them in. I bought a second pair a year later. The third pair was different even though it was the 627 steel toe. It felt like a boot, and the comfort level was not there. I thought maybe it was a bad lot number when made. I bought another pair and had the same problem. I contacted customer service the first time asking if the shoe was now being made differently. They said no. I contacted them again a few months later after trying yet another pair, and they said this was a Version 2 of the 627 steel toe. New versions mean they were made differently. I had to stop purchasing this shoe because it is made differently and the comfort level has changed. And since this model is not available at a physical store to try on, it gets expensive sending shoes back with postage. I wish NB made these like Version 1 again. I would buy them all the time if they did.

These shoes are as stiff as a board and never seem to break in. Also, having previously owned steel toed work shoes, I was able to kick things and not have it hurt my toes. Not so with these. Finally, while they look nice, being leather covered, as they are the most expensive, they should be more comfortable.
