Awesome backpack i bought for 8th grade... Super comfortable, durable, and great looking bag. This backpack has everything you could dream of for a school bag- 1) it has like 20 pockets 2) it is spacious (i fit like 3 textbooks in there) 3) It looks great, feels comfortable, and the material should last for a few years.

This backpack weighs nothing and can carry everything comfortably It carries my books, iPad, Laptop, water bottles. There are pockets for personal items to hide inside and out. I like the loops for hanging extras. Also, the pack does not cause my back to hurt because of the built in support. It is all weather, so I don't care if it rains. I should not have waited so long to buy this pack. I can pack overnight(s) and not have to carry an extra bag because this one holds everything!

During my school years I have had to buy a new backpack every single year. My freshman year, my mom bought me this backpack. It's insanely expensive, but i'd rather buy an expensive high quality backpack that ought to last me more than a year than buy a $30-60 one every school year. This backpack is AMAZING! So much space! It holds up to three texts books, four notebooks and five folders plus all my school supplies in the organizing pocket. It is very comfortable so when you have a lot to carry, it feels heavy, but your back is not hurting. I've had shoulder problem with other backpacks but this one is just great! My friends were jealous the first time they saw it! AWESOME!

The Surge II backpack is perfect! Before I had this model, I had the Borealis, and that one was just too small for me. In the Surge, I can fit all of my books, laptop, lunch, etc. for the day, which makes my life a lot easier because it saves me trips back to my apartment. Even when I weight it down with a lot of contents, it is still fits well and is comfortable to wear. It has also proved useful for some hiking day trips; I can fit extra layers and rain gear inside of it, and it has a lot of nice compartments of various sizes for smaller items. Plus, the laptop sleeve doubles as a nice place for a CamelBak bladder! I definitely recommend this backpack

This product is everything that its claimed to be right out the the box. It is very spacious with numerous pockets. You will never have problems fitting extra belongings inside wether for school or a day trip. It is heavy duty and very durable unlike most other companies. The straps are extremely comfortable along with the padding on the back of the pack. All in all i would highly recommend this product as well as any product that the North Face has to offer.

I bought this backpack because I am doing a lot of traveling this year and don't want to carry a suitcase. It's rooming and have protection for laptop or iPad. What I love about this backpack the most is the security you have with connecting it around your waist and below your neck.

This backpack is perfect. I got the burnt olive green/military green one. I had a really hard time finding an adequate backpack because I have a huge 17 inch Macbook Pro (it's ancient). Most backpacks only fit 15 inch laptops. Plus I carry a lot of books because I am a commuting students. I have to carry whatever books I need for the day PLUS anything I want to study with in between classes. I finally forked over the cash for this backpack and it has been totally worth it. I can fit 2 big binders, a note book and a big textbook without any issue at all. It consists of 3 pockets. Posterior-most pocket is the laptop sleeve. Middle pocket is for your book and it's very spacious. Anterior-post pocket is small and allows you to fit the little essentials you carry with you. I love how deep the pockets are in the backpack because I can fit extra stuff in. It's got 3 more outside pockets on the front of the bag. You will not run out of room with this bag. When I load up my bag it probably weighs close to 30 lbs. and I can carry it on my back without issue. I can't wait to take this bag hiking. I'm already considering getting another one.

Sooo this is my 2nd Northface bag, I bought my original Borealis bag back in 2003 in TNF Black- and spent the next 11 years abusing that bag. So now I can appreciate the evolutionary advances in storage- the Surge 2 is great! I use this daypack for all kinds of activity, and usually pack to the extreme. I really do like the structure of this bag- the use of foams to create the protected laptop compartment is nice. I fit my 15inch Lenovo laptop, and has plenty of space for a tablet in the same compartment- and its padded! My old bag was a 29 liter volume, this new bag is 32liter volume- and the extra space is appreciated, while still maintaining the same overall shape of a regular daypack. Highly recommended!

I use this bag almost every day from going to work to day hikes in the Catskills. I love how it rides even fully loaded. The cross strap allows for the flexibility only found in larger packs. Very well designed, if you looking for a great all around bag that can do a serious day hike look no further.

My 28-year-old son asked for this for his birthday. He loves it. It replaced two other backpacks that were way past their prime and falling apart.

Had this pack about 6 months and so far it's been rock solid. It's comfortable, has plenty of storage, and be packed up a lot. Take this to work, school, and it's been on at least one trip without issue. There's only two concerns with this pack. The first is the issue of water resistance. It's pretty water resistant in terms that some zippers have weather flaps (but the laptop compartment is missing that but made up for by a thick inner piece that sits inside the zipper track when closed to keep water out a bit) and while the pack will quickly look soaked, you'll find in light to moderate rain after 15-20 minutes there's only a small amount of moisture inside (so most of your stuff will be dry). I've been meaning to apply waterproof spray to this to improve weather resistance. It's resistant to bad weather but not waterproof. The other concern is in regards to school use. This has deep compartments. So the main compartment I've fit boots, and two days worth of clothes with a hoodie in it. But it's because the compartments are deep. Books tend to go one in front of the other so space runs out quick for books unless you pile books on top of each other which could damage the books. Not a dealbreaker but this pack feels more designed for trips and packing clothes/laptop and not a ton of books. Also while the mini compartments in the front compartment with zippered pouches and sleeves are nice, when the bag is jammed to capacity this can make it hard to get things out of these mini compartments. Again, not a dealbreaker but I'd prefer a simpler system with fewer little pouches, sleeves, etc inside. TNF does pay attention to small details which is nice. There's an emergency whistle on one strap. There's stow sleeves for the lower body strap. There's a side pouch for a laptop charger. The front stash compartments are good for small items for easy access without having to open the pack. The zippers are big and feel sturdy. The overall build of the pack is high quality, thick materials, study overall. The ipad sleeve is a bit of a gimmick, once a laptop is in there and the front is full, it's a tight fit but I use the sleeve for a magazine or two. Overall I'm pleased with the pack, still looks and feels brand new. It's also ACA approved so it's relatively easy on your back and shoulders.

This backpack is the exact same as it is on the website which is great for someone who will not actually see the pack until they have already ordered it. Before the Surge II, I had not owned a North Face daypack and this pack is exactly the quality I would expect from this company. Just experimenting with capacity, I fit a thick insulated coat, a 16.9 oz plastic water bottle and 2 hoodies just into the main compartment. Imagine how much this pack could hold with all of the other pockets and pouches shown on the website. With minimalist shelter, this daypack could even pull a two day hike in warm weather. I am sure this backpack will match my my hiking needs and if you are looking for a pack for only a few hours, look into a smaller bag unless you need to bring your entire house or it is really cold. I will also be using this pack for school and I can easily fit two thick books and all the folders and spirals I need just in the main pocket. I will also be able to fit my extremely wide 17" laptop and 9.6" tablet in the back sleeve. This will work out well as there is almost an excessive amount of padding on the back and shoulders. Unfortunately, the hip belt was not thought out well so I don't even use it. The little wings are very thin and the strap is positioned at my belly button. I am not sure how that would work on a taller person as I am 5'8". Also, this pack only has one water bottle pouch as one side is consumed by a large area that is useful for charging cables but I agree with other reviewers that this would work much better with a water bottle/umbrella pouch on both sides.

This is the BEST backpack hands down. Don't let the price steer you away. You'll never have to buy another one. It's incredibly well made, has endless amounts of pockets with varying sizes, zippers, Velcro and other compartments. The laptop section is very well padded and sturdy and allows for a laptop, plus has a sleeve for a tablet. I am VERY pleased with my purchase.

This is by far the best backpack that I have ever used. It's lightweight, comfortable and spacious. There is literally a pocket or space for everything I take with me to class. Calculators, pens, and folders all fit easily in their own spaces and not to mention my laptop slides into the designated spot with ease. I have only one complaint and it concerns the water bottle holder. I have a large Camelback bottle and it fits into the holder with ease. However, it also falls out very easily. There is no tie or adjustable trap that allows me to tighten the holder so I am frequently checking to make sure that my water bottle is still there. This is only a minor concern regarding a fantastic backpack. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a solid, all around pack.

I have used this pack for only a few weeks, but so far, I love it. I use it to carry my laptop, tablet, books, and papers to work and school. I can load it down with books, and it's still very comfortable to carry. Great organization and lots of pockets also. I'm looking forward to using it on some trips, because I should be able to carry my laptop and clothes for 2-3 days in the pack and still be able to put it under the seat on a plane. My only concern is the carry handle seems a little flimsy. I'm scared to use the handle to lift or carry the pack when it's loaded down. Hopefully it will hope up over time. Other than that one issue, I can't say enough great things about this pack.
