I eventually purchased 3 pairs of these when they came out - two from Zappos and one pair from the New Balance store. They were all defective. And they were definitely narrower and feel more cheaply made. All 3 pairs were returned. I have worn the NB85X series for as long as they made them. One thing no one has noted is that the 855 and 856 were made in the USA. The 857 is made in Asia. I have had many NB shoes made in Asia (90% of them are) and they were OK. But the transition for this line has gone badly. It seems NB does not have their own quality control personnel on site at the factory, and if you don't do that they will rip you every time. NB should know that by now. It is time to order new shoes and I came back to these first hoping that the problems had been ironed out. Apparently they have not.

I love Zappos! They are very fast and with the free shipping it always gets here on time. I can use their website without difficulty and they are very good about notifying me when product goes out in the mail.

To be frank, I have short fat feet. Hence, finding shoes in my size (7.5 and 4 EEEE) is difficult. When I tried to order them and to a message that an attempt would be made get them, I was skeptical. However, soon after I received an email and ordered them. I was impressed.

Not at all my favorite workout shoe. I was hoping for a bit more stability and motion control which this shoe does provide, but for me it's very hard the feet; as if there was not enough cushioning. There are a few of issues I don't like: 1. Inside removable sole wasn't cut correctly and I could feel it on my heel. I had to cut an excess portion out of it so it wouldn't bother me. 2. The height of the shoe around the ankle is too high for me. My ankles rub against the shoe as I work out. It's very distracting and annoying; so much so that I will just use these shoes to walk around town. 3. The heel was too roomy; the toe fit perfectly and even though I ordered my exact size, my heel wiggles a bit to much; so I don't feel that stable in them. Wonder if I could return these? Unfortunately, I think it was cash down the drain.

Not very happy right now, just noticed that the sole is separating from the left heel and the right shoe has the a hole at the inseam.

I hope this flaw in the new style is not the trend for NB! The toe box was too narrow and the instep not deep enough. Have never had trouble with NB before. NB is the only shoe I have found up till this one that would fit my son's feet. I did not expect a 14 6E to be too narrow! Thankfully found the #856 in his size on clearance at a different store.

We have bought these shoes for my husband for several years and he loves them. They wear very well.

Shoes arrived in time for our vacation. They are perfect. True to size. Extra wide. Very comfortable. New Balance always comes through for my size 17 foot which still has issues from the war.

Ordered the New Balance in a narrow size, perfect fit. They were at my doorstep in 4 days and at a great price.

This has been my walking shoe for at least my last 6 pair. I LOVE them! Very comfortable, sturdy and long lasting. I graduate them down after about 8-10 months. I keep my most recent 3 pair: Walking, Around Town, Yard. Each time I get a new pair, the old ones get knocked down a notch. They hold up well through all three identities! :)

I love these shoes! I have a very big and wide foot and have trouble finding a comfortable shoes that are true to size in the toe box. These fit the bill nicely and they look nice too.

I use these for walking and general exercise. Very comfortable and quality build. I have very wide ferry and these fit very well.

This is the third pair I bought from Zappos. I like the fit and the durability. I pretty much live in sneakers on the weekend and at night. I use these for the cross trainers they are. Lifting weights and cardio workouts as well. They last a long time. and the uppers do not stretch and they do stay very supportive. Obviously, with having 3 pairs (and the model they replaced before that), I think these are extremely comfortable and useful shoes. The fact the New Balance makes these in various widths is a real plus. Highly recommend.

I usually wear a size 8, but had to reorder a 1/2 size smaller to get the right fit with this shoe. Shoe feels great and offers excellent support. I am a little concerned with what looks like some loose stitching around the toe cap leather, but so far no problems.

My husband wears an ankle brace on one foot and needs a wide width which is very difficult to find in an athletic shoe. Last year we went to the NB factory store and found a perfect walking sneaker for him (MW812WT). It worked out so well, he wanted a second pair. We went back to the store and discovered NB discontinued it and my husband was reluctant to try the new version. Not giving up, we found it on Zappos and bought it immediately. We also saw this sneaker and purchased it too. He likes it just as well because it provides the same comfort and support as the other. This one is actually more stylish with its younger look; however, comfort and support with him trumps all. Thank you Zappos, you're our go to place now...especially love the free shipping both ways!

I can only ware extra, extra wide shoes... Zappos make it simple to fins and purchase. Always comes on time as well!

Finally, after 52 years , I have found the only athletic shoes that I've ever worn that are completely comfortable. 12½EEEEEE (6E) is an almost impossible size to find. Thank you, Zappos! I ordered an additional pair because of the perfect fit. Love the free overnight shipping with my VIP membership. I am a customer for life!

I bought these in a men's size because New Balance does not make this shoe in black for women. Zappos return policy has never failed me, so I found a men's to women's shoe size conversion chart online and ordered accordingly. The shoes are perfect.

This is my third pair. My shoe size is 14 6e. I have tried other brands in that size but these are the only one that make my feet comfortable. I will continue to buy this shoe. I just wish they had some color options.

The fit and comfort is wonderful. The only problem I have is when I washed the shoes in our washing machine the outer coating came off and now the shoes look dull and stained all the time.

I have a very narrow, hard to fit foot. New Balance makes one of the only casual shoes that fit me well. I tend to purchase the same model each time and find that they are very consistent.

I purchased the MX 857 as a duplicate of my older 857. I think small design change was made to the design and the top edge of the shoe by the eyelet appears to be higher than the previous model because it is rubbing against my ankle and I have to put a bandage on my ankle at that point to prevent getting a blister and or a callous on my right ankle inside.

I ordered these shoes for my husband who had previously worn NB856 and was very pleased with them. He found these 857s to be just as comfortable and the fit was perfect. He wears a wide width (EE).

Had read that New Balance MX857 had changed sizing and that I needed to order slightly larger. I did order the next size up. They fit like a glove. Have worn this series since 1999. They give excellent support at the ankle and love the roller at the the outstep side. Definitely a buy if you need support and spend lots of time walking on hard surfaces. By the way, I am a big man 6'3" pushing 290 pounds so this is a big guy shoe
