This is my second pair. I had to exchange the first. See my other review. Zappos rocks. The new 857 is definitely narrower. For the first time in 10 years of this shoe series I have had to go up to a D width from a B width for stability and comfort. I wear orthotics and have narrow feet and zero arch. So if you are coming into the 857 from the 856 and are in a similar situation I recommend you go up a width.

I'm a long time purchaser of the 850's series by New Balance - 855, then 856, and now 857. Very good shoe, although the latest version seems a bit "clunkier". The leather seems thicker and heavier - maybe even hotter in warm weather. Fit is excellent as I need a wide shoe (I get the 4E). Just wish it was a bit lighter weight.

My husband really loves his shoes. They are nice, comfortable, and will hopefully last quite a while. He's got flat feet and some shoes are difficult on him, these are perfect for that problem! We were a little disappointed with the lack of attention to the extra glue around the glued spots on the soles around the sides of the shoes.

Not a fan. I've used the 855 and 854 for years to play racquetball and tennis. These are not even close. I'll keep them for a walking shoe.

I've been a long-time fan of NB shoes, especially because they are usually wider at a given size than other makers'. This particular style, though, was cut uncomfortably narrow. Otherwise, it's a good shoe!

Have worn NB's 855 and up. Got a pair of 857's and sole coming apart from the bottom of the sole at the ball of my foot. Very disappointed. Bought 855 and up due to putting in a insert. Now not sure which shoe design and style can replace this type of shoe?

I've been wearing 855s and 856s since since the first 855. Now this 857 has some issues. I've always worn a 9.5 B. I put in my orthotics (I have flat feet) and I can do any P90X or Insanity or court sport no problem. These 857s are wayyyyy off. They are a hair too short, but that might just be over sensitivity since they are way too narrow. My skinny feet a bulging out the sides of these. Any side to side or toe action threatens the shoe rolling. I've exchanged these for 9.5 D to see if they fit better. If so I'll update my review.

I cannot recommend this sneaker any longer. I have very wide feet, so I have to wear a size 6E, and this is one of the few companies that makes this size. I have had three pair over the last two years. The first pair was fine, and lasted a reasonable amount of time. The last two pair, however, each started to fall apart within 6 months of not very stressful wear. In particular, the sole and heal of the sneaker started peeling off. A sneaker at this price should do better than that. I echo the other reviewer who believes New Balance has allowed quality to slip. It is a shame.

I recently purchased 2 pair of NB #856 mens sneakers. They were both purchased at a NB factory store. They both were defective and NB will not stand behind their product. Both failed at the toe box where they came apart. What the NB store does not tell you is that these are outdated products that will dry out while on the NB stock shelves while waiting to be delivered to their stores. I call them SECONDS and they behave as such. Buyer beware.

I wanted to give these shoes some time before I wrote my review. Break them in and see how they felt. I have been buying NB now for 16 years, and these are the worst. The toe box keeps rubbing on my small toe with any amount of walking. It gets extremely uncomfortable, and I run the risk of getting a blister (both left and right feet) . They are the same "size" and "width" of all my previous NB shoes, but they have really let me down with these ones.

Narrower and longer than other NB sneakers I've had. Spoke with NB about it and they suggested the MW847. Zappos doesn't have them so I had to get them directly from NB. Hope they fit like a proper 6E.

I have worn these sneakers for years. Something is very wrong with them now. The heel is way too wide making your feet move all over the place. After having them about three months the stability in them was completely gone. My ankles hurt my toes, etc. I was actually limping from them. I bought a pair of brooks addiction walkers. I put them on and I felt so stable. I will never buy a New Balance product again. My last pair after a few months the sole was separating from the shoe big time. I wrote to the company no response. Give the Brooks addiction walkers a try and you will see how bad these New Balance are. I cannot believe how much better I feel right now. It is amazing what a bad pair of sneakers will do to you. Weird thing is I just got new professional orthotics I thought something was wrong with them. Nope definitely the New Balance sneakers.

I have wide and pretty flat feet. The previous model MX856 was a great shoe for me. I used them everyday for almost a year without any issues. MX857 on the other hand is horrible. Within a month of purchasing it the shoe lost its shape, and now after 5 months, my feet, legs and lower back hurt every time I am on my feet for a few hours.

Incredibly shoddy construction, poor fit. I've been wearing New Balance for 20-30 years now, and I've never had a pair that were this poorly made. Right out of the box, as many others have noted, the heel box was much larger than it had to be, and my heels slip around much more than they do in my other NBs. The insert doesn't fit correctly, either, which means that it tends to slip around and makes a squeaking noise when I walk. Beyond the fit, the entire shoe is falling apart after just a couple of months of normal wear. (And these aren't the shoes I wear to the gym, either -- those are a different pair of NBs that are holding up fine.) The bottom sole layer on both shoes is already starting to detach on the sides, and the grommets have already pulled out of several lacing holes. (The tongue on one shoe is also sewn in incorrectly, and tells to fold over in half when I put my foot in.) Overall, one of the worst pairs of shoes I've ever bought from any brand, let alone New Balance. Truly disappointing.

Loved the shoes, unfortunately the soles literally fell apart within 10 months of purchase. Would not recommend them for this reason.

Very comfortable, but what a bummer. Wore NB all my life. This will be my last pair. (2) pairs of this model showed the same tear less than (2) months; did not even make out of break-in period. Emailed customer support and received pre-formed generic response. Customer service reminds me of third-world cash-and-carry store.
