Very comfy shorts. Typical Columbia quality. But you can't carry much cargo in the cargo pockets. Too small even for cell phone. That's pretty disappointing. Back pockets would be nice.

I own two pair of the Sandy River Cargo shorts and love them. I ordered two more pair -- the picture shown looks just like my old ones, but the shorts I received are a much tighter, slimmer fit, the belt is not elastic as the old ones were, and the "cargo" pockets are barely large enough to fit two fingers in. The old shorts have 6"x6" pockets with zippers; these have 4"x4" pockets, only one with a zipper, the other with a sewn down flap -- impossible to get into -- not acceptable for cargo pockets or to hold valuables.

I bought these in 3 different colors. They are comfortable shorts for playing sports with the kids, camping, etc. I don't wear the belt that comes with them because I have a medium and two larges and both sizes stay up just fine. I'm 5'6", 160 lbs and the mediums technically fit, but I have wide hips so I ordered the other two in larges just to have more room for comfortable movement. I would call them a utility short, but they are cute enough to wear just about anytime during the summer.

I'm between a small and a medium, I ordered the small and the fit is perfect.

I own 5 pairs of these shorts. Bought 2, then 3 more. Belt is silly and tricky, much of the time I find it flapping and think I will get rid of them. They serve no purpose. My very real issue is the front pockets are way too shallow. I have lost a lens cap for a camera, dumped credit cards on the ground and the last straw dumped my cell phone in the toilet. I have a much much older version of Columbia shorts that none of that has ever happened. Rethink the p belt, make front pockets a couple of inches deeper.. Great short though, Saved me in the oppressive heat Long Island experienced this summer. And I shall buy again, there is nothing better out there.

I now have 3 pairs of these shorts. I love the fabric and they are easy to move in. I also love the pockets, and that it comes with a belt.

These are great. Only thing is that I'm in between sizes in these shorts. The large are a little tight and the xl are a little too baggy. Oh well they are still great comfortable shorts.

In hopes that someone at Columbia is reading these reviews, I have resorted to rating these shorts. I have worn this style Columbia shorts since they came out; sadly, I am left with no choice but to shop other brands. This newer version is shorter in the rise; tighter in the crotch; and much less comfortable & durable. Less material = less functionality for people who actually wear these for active sports. One would think Columbia knows this, right? I can only speak for myself, but even after I ordered a size up to compensate, the shorter legs and tighter crotch make these pretty useless for kayaking, hiking, etc. Over the years of the original version, I have probably spent $3-4 thousand on other Columbia items, since I sought out the brand to buy new colors and replacements of these shorts - tops, sweaters, pants, crops, shoes, etc. Sadly, Columbia is no longer my go-to brand for upgrading my active spring/summer wardrobe, now that my old reliable shorts are no longer reliable. I guess if your most strenuous activity in these shorts is a stop at Starbucks, they might work for you. But I cannot recommend them otherwise. *sigh*

Very comfortable and fit great! They are very soft and just great as a day to day short as well as hiking.

Love these shorts. I live where it is very hot in the summer, these shorts are nice,cool, and airy. Very comfortable, I have 3 pairs.

Love these shorts. They are the perfect length and great to keep keys /cash safe in the zipper pocket. Bought them to wear on vacation to the beach but I'm sure I'll be wearing them throughout the summer! Will buy all colors !!

These shorts are so comfy and flattering. They will be great for hiking or wearing to work outdoors. It's hard to find a good khaki short that is flattering and durable, but these shorts fit the bill! They also come with a belt, which is really nice. Worth the money!

I like these shorts, very comfortable n lightweight. Color is very vibrant but it looks cool.

I love these shorts. With a 6 inch inseam I have enough room to paddleboard and be active without feeling any constriction. The zippered pocket keeps my valuables safe and they are so flattering. The color is so perfect for the water. Glad I bought them.You should too!

These shorts are comfortable and great for being around water.

Love these shorts! I can put my license/credit card in the little zipper pocket and go. They are light fabric and wash well. The material does not fade or shrink. Great for hiking or just daily wear. I originally bought the black years ago and so glad i found this color too!

I have been wearing the sandy river cargo shorts for years. I am so glad you brought back the bright colors. I love the red color you used to have. I do sea turtle monitoring from March till October and these are my go-to shorts for out on the beach. This purple color is awesome!!

These are my go-to shorts. I wish I had discovered these sooner. I bought my first pair last year so this year I stocked up as much as I could! I will always buy these and have extra pairs on hand in various colors.

These shorts are incredible!!! I am very picky about the way clothes fit me. I am an active 64 year old lady and I like my clothes to be comfortable and appropriate for my age!! These fit the bill!!!

These shorts are perfect for hiking around. if they get wet, they dry quickly and i love the color.

The 5 inch inseam is great, and these shorts have a generous cut. The one downside is my phone always falls out of my pocket when I sit down.
