I was looking for some boots that would last a long time. I'm tired of shoes wearing out! I live in Minnesota so my first inclination was to buy Red Wings, but they're priced like they want to keep them, so I browsed until I found these. I bought them and couldn't be happier. First, if you are not accustomed to buying Real Boots, be aware that these have a relatively lengthy break-in period. I've had them for about a month and they're super comfortable, but the initially stiff leather chafed, squeezed and otherwise made life uncomfortable for a few weeks at first. Especially at first, the comfort of these shoes depends strongly on exactly how you lace them - leather doesn't stretch and give throughout the day like tennis shoes or jeans. These are made with what appears to be full grain leather - it's thick, smells good and is sewn together well. The Vibram soles are a bit soft but this makes walking comfortable and can presumably be replaced if they wear out. The laces were waxed when they arrived but have softened up a bit. They look sharp, and if you're worried about the huge logo showing, it is very faint and usually under the pant cuff line. I'd recommend these to anyone. They're easily the best boots I've ever owned and I look forward to using them for years to come. A note of caution - I usually wear a 10, and bought a 9.5 based on reviewers recommendations. They were still too large, so I returned them for a 9, and those fit fine. Also, if your feet run wide the least bit, be sure to get the wide version. I don't usually, but did with these and they feel great.

This boot is a great alternative to more expensive boots like Red Wing, Whites, etc. These are a perfect boot to wear when you need the durability and coverage of a boot, but need something a bit more dressy. I wear mine with khakis and jeans at work and it allows me to move from the office to the field without having to switch shoes. Fits about 1/2 size big, but the EE is not as wide as it sounds. I put a pair of SOLE insoles in them and can be on my feet for 12 hours no problem. If you plan on a insole I would order your actual size to ensure they are big enough. Great boot at a great price.

These are excellent boots for the price. The leather seems to be full-grain, the shoe is fully welted so the sole can be recrafted, the sole is low-profile but still grips well. Construction seems bombproof. The details aren't as polished as they could be and there is a bit of extra rubber here and there on the soles that could stand to be shaved down, for example. But structurally speaking, there are no flaws. I've only had mine for a short while, and after a couple applications of leather protector, they have cheerfully withstood a few days in my dad's woodworking shop and a hike through snowy mountains. A few scuffs here and there enhance these shoes' good looks. They are comfortable and break in pretty quickly. No blisters or hot spots at all. If you're looking for a high-quality, US-made boot but don't want to dish out big bucks for brands like Red Wing and Wolverine, these Chips are a great affordable alternative.

These are a nice looking boot. I ordered a half size down and the length is perfect. I have a good EE width and these fit me just a little snug, but with some breaking in the should fit great. The padded insole is thick which was good because my othro-insole fits the boot perfect. These will be a very comfortable pair boots for me! A nice boot for the money. Better than the Red Wing Iron Ranger boots I looked at the in the Red Wing store.

After returning a pair of Red Wings that were totally uncomfortable, with no insole and a ridiculously narrow last, and which cost three times as much as the Chippewas, I got these boots. The difference is like night and day. The EE width accommodated my wide feet nicely and with their springy insoles, walking in these boots is a pleasure. The color is actually much nicer and deeper than this picture makes it seem, and a coat of Obenauf's makes the brown even richer and deeper. For a third of the price of Red Wings, I like these boots three times as much. I would order a half size down -- I reliably wear a 12EE and the 11.5EE was plenty big for me, even a tad on the big side.

I was set on buying a pair of Red Wing boots, but their sizing runs just a tad too narrow for me. These boots are a great alternative at half the price. Pros: a solid, well-designed upper, and comfortable fit (minus the insole, which I found too cushiony). Cons: laces ripped after two months of wear, and the sole has surprisingly little traction on snow or ice.

Great boot. I've wear a size 11 in most shoes, and a size 9 1/2 fit well, but slightly narrow. Boots have been extremely comfortable after a couple weeks of break in and applying some leather conditioner/waterproofing. I work in a kitchen and the soles are great - never slip even on wet tile floors. So far they have been very durable and look fantastic.

I've had a pair of these for about a year & I can honestly say they are the best boots I have ever had on my feet! They are durable, comfortable, the laces stay tied all day long & the fact that they have an eye instead of a hook at the top contributes to that. I am very hard on footwear & these have stood up to the wear & tear better than any I have owned before. I plan on buying another pair soon & putting them away in case they are unavailable in the future.

These are great looking work boots. They are a bit narrow, but they should break in well. They are really comfortable otherwise.

Needing a good boot with comfortable insoles, read the good reviews, purchased these, and determined this was indeed a great find. Feels very durable, good quality materials, and an easy break-in period. I bought a half size smaller than I usually buy. They fit narrow, so if you have wide feet, go with the EE. I'm very happy with these boots!

Classic boots, classic lines. The leather took several wears to soften a bit and loosen oh so slightly. The soles are sturdy and the waxed laces very useful. A great look with jeans, not workbootish or Harleyish.

Excellent comfort right out of the box. Break-in over a few wearings even enhances comfort and feel. Good looking coffee brown finish that looks even better with wear. Wears well with jeans and chinos both for work and casual use. Definitely would purchase again!

Great pair of boots for when you want to feel more manly and patriotic. Ruggedly comfortable. Fantastic American flag accent on the shoe laces. Definitely need to break them in. Don't be a wimp about it. I took it a half size down than my usual shoe size. Got the wide variant because I have wide feet. Spot on.

Comfortable. Don't look as "rugged" as they appear in the picture. Seem to look better with pants that have a narrower ankle opening.

These boots are amazingly comfortable. I wear a size 11 in sneakers and a 10 ee fit my slightly wider than D foot. I got a size 10 because my Allen Edmonds 5th Avenue are a true fit at 10. The vibram soles could use a bit more tread but can be replaced over time. Take care these and they'll out last you!

A solid pair of boots. They seem to run slightly large and a bit narrow. I normally wear somewhere between a 9.5 and a 10 and a 9.5 fits about right. They are a narrow boot. I do not normally order wide shoes, but I'll be exchanging the Ds for EEs. Great style.

These are worth every dollar! I have been looking for work savvy and stylish boots for about a year and these boots were perfect. I get tons of compliments and they look great at and outside of work. They are ridiculously awesome with a pair tan/brown pants and jean coat with hoodie. They are perfect with your favorite blue jeans. The price is crazy high but the quality is worth it. Jump the boat, buy these shoes!

Great boot, quality construction and comfortable. I used to wear Doc Martens religiously until I felt the quality had gone downhill. Glad I found these! I wear a size 10 and had to down-size (to a 9) a full size to get a comfortable fit. Zappos customer service is top-notch. Didn't even blink when I had to return twice to find the correct size.

Good quality boot. Thick leather and comfortable sole with good arch support. The fit of the boot does run on the large size. I normally wear a 10.5 EE. Reading the previous reviews on the boot I ordered a 10EE and it fits fine with a little extra room.

These are fantastic boots. I look forward to wearing them; they are hip and very comfortable with plenty of support. I own a pair of Frye belted harness boos, as well as several of the hipper Timberland City Boot and Chelsae models. These are my favorites. Simply well made and simple, with no glaring bells and whistles that would put them out of style in 3 years. For the money, an awesome buy.

Fantastic boots that wear like iron. I've had mine for 15 years now, including lots of hours logged in hideous muddy/swampy conditions, and they look little different from when they were new--if anything, a little better. Eventually, the soles will wear out and I will need to replace them, but I'm confident that I will expire before these boots will. They fit nicely and are very comfortable for a boot, too; I give them 4 stars instead of 5 only because I know I have low-rise shoes that are more comfortable, but you'd be hard-pressed to find a pair of tough-soled work boots more comfortable.

These Chippewas are an unsung bargain among classic work boots. I inspected the well regarded Red Wings and passed them by. For half the price of the nearly identical Red Wings get these American made classics, take care of them and they will last the rest of your life. I've been through a few pairs of boots in my 40 years: my Dad's Chippewas from the 60's, which came to me nearly dead, but very good looking. A massive pair of engineer boots that saw too much elephant poop to be allowed into the house (and were therefore retired before their time). And my last pair of Oxblood Chippewas which lasted through 3 resolings, thousands of New York City foot miles, a home renovation and 3 careers in 12 years. They only bit the dust due to neglect, too much plaster and cement dust and too long between oilings. I plan to make this pair last forever.
