These boots are made with soft, oil-tanned leather. I wanted a pair of brown leather boots, with no insulation, and these fit the bill perfectly. I use them for casual shoes. Although they are soft, they do require a short break-in period. They are comfortable from the beginning, but they get a lot more comfortable after wearing them around for a while. They have three speed lace hooks, but the top/last eyelet is a regular one that the lace has to be threaded through. They have nice waxed laces that are a little more difficult to lace than I am used to, but once they are tied, they stay put. If these boots last as long as they look like they will, I will be a repeat Chippewa customer. Regarding Zappos, I could not be more impressed with the speed of service.

The Chippewa 6" lace up boot is a symbol of American craftsmanship. The heavily oiled leather upper is sturdy and will only get better with age. The Vibram sole is soft for comfort, but dense enough to provide miles of travel. It would be a fair assumption to say this boot will outlast its owner. I was extremely pleased with Zappos.com. I highly recommend this boot for not only a stylish, "dressier" boot, but also a long lasting work boot.

Excellent boot with great style. Seems to run a slight bit large - not sure it's quite a half size difference, but with thicker socks they fit well. Very stiff leather upper, provides good ankle support. Seems pretty comfortable even new, can't wait until they are broken in.

I work in the power systems maintenance industry where sites require work boots (some steel toe some not). Got these because they are darn stylish while still looking rugged enough for the job. By far the most comfortable sole I have ever had in a boot. Watch the size though. I had to full size down in order to get the right fit. Fantastic boot though. Highly recommend.

This is so close to a 5-star boot! I have worn mine in a warehouse environment (outside on pavement and inside on smooth concrete flooring) for about a year now (5 days/week at work). The good: the fit and feel is amazing! These boots are a second skin to my feet. I did put different insoles into them for better arch support. I also replaced the boot laces with paracord laces (because hey, Zombie Apocalypse!). I could go jogging in these boots. I have also conditioned them once or twice by wiping the dirt and then covering with waterproofing compound. The bad: One or two of the hook-eyelets bends often. I am not sure what causes it. Occasionally, I take the cap lifter on my multi-tool to pry it back open so the laces fit. I had this problem both with factory-supplied laces and the paracord upgrade laces. If it weren't for the eyelet issues on one boot, this would definitely be 5 stars. I would and will buy this boot again should the current ones wear out.

I love these boots. I think they look good, they feel like a solid, quality boot, and they are comfortable. My only concern is that they are too narrow. If I'm wearing a thicker sock, I will occasionally notice that they feel a bit tight, but I usually don't even think about it. I also think I have slightly wide feet. I'm considering getting a pair of the 8" boots and trying the wide size.

I love these boots! They were recommended to me by a friend as being good quality boots for the price. You can get better boots for a lot more money, but these are fantastic for the price. I thought they were comfortable right away, almost no break in period. I'm on my feet all day and they keep my feet feeling good. My only complaint is the laces. I wore out the laces in about a month. I really love the leather and so far it has aged really well. They have removable insoles, which I like because I need a little extra arch support, so I put some arch support insoles in them. If full leather construction soles are not important to you, these are some great boots to check out.

I've had these boots for a week, worn them daily during break-in. Appear to be good quality with good leather, comfortable and supportive insole. Looks good with jeans. Feet stay warm, but not hot. Recommend ordering a half size smaller than you usually wear for proper fit. Used Doc Marten's Basalm to condition the leather with excellent results.

Good looking boot. Typical in terms of comfort for a work boot: still leather, firm sole, waxed stiff laces.

Darker than it appears in the photos. Tongue leather a bit thin, but everywhere else quality seems quite good. Sole stitching in particular is good. More comfortable than expected on first wear; seemed true-to-size. Overall, great boot for the price.

At first I thought, wow, this is one ugly boot. And let me tell you, the smell of leather is overpowering...initially. This is now the foundation of my wardrobe. I would like to see better laces and nicer, maybe round eyelets. Also, think twice before hitting this jobber up with any kind of leather treatment. I did, which killed the smell, but made it look like I was wearing cigars on my feet until enough of the sauce dissipated/evaporated (I still lube the inside, though). Real comfy on the inside and a must have for a pair of sturdy get-around kicks. Hard to beat for the price, wouldn't break my heart if it got beat up doing yard work. Get a pair just to have.

Like all new shoes they have to be broken in but after wards they have been very comfortable. I am very happy with them.

These were high quality, comfortable boots when I tried them on. My foot measures 12.5 on a Brannock device, and the size 12 fit me well (making them a half size large). I decided to return them though. I'm admittedly a city slicker looking for some stylish boots that can run the gamut from jeans and a t-shirt to an OCBD and a cardigan. These were a little too bulky and bulbous for the latter, in my opinion. I know work wear boots are in style these days though, so you may disagree. All considered, I would recommend them as long as you understand these are thick, serious boots for a lumberjack look. They'll look anachronistic in the city - which might be exactly what you're going for.

I wish the soles were a bit thinner so they would be more flexible. The boot has hooks for lacing them up fast which is good, but for some reason at the top there is grommet or eyelet that slows you down getting the boots on an off.

Foremost, they look great and the materials seem to be of decent quality. My issue is with the apparent lack of quality control over at Chippewa. The left boot fit perfectly, but the right one might as well have been from a completely different pair. The leather flap with the eyelets on the right was at least a half inch higher than on the left, make the lacing asymmetrical and causing it to pull substantially to one side. You could feel the boot pull that foot to one side with every step. Only wore them a day just casually walking but I couldn't imagine how terribly my foot, hip and ankle would feel trying to do anything more strenuous over a long distance. Considering their reputation and substantial price tag, I couldn't be more disappointed with them. What good is being made in the USA if they're made like garbage?

I bought these for my husband over a year ago and they still look great. They are very well made, sturdy and heavy duty. They are wearing very well also, keeping a good color and not looking ragged at all. They are primarily weekend wear but do get a work out. I can tell these will last many years. For someone that works in construction or similar, they would be a great choice. I highly recommend!

Great pair of Chippewas! I own a few pairs of the Service Boots, but wanted something that I could wear specifically in the snow and winter weather. These fit the bill. More of a work boot than the Service Boots as expected, but still sharp.

After reading the reviews I ordered 1/2 size smaller and they fit perfect. Had major surgery on both ankles and need a lot of support. I’ve owned a lot of different boots but these are without a doubt the best boots I’ve ever purchased. 5 STARS.

I purchased a 10.5 based on reviews stating that the sizes ran large. I should have ordered an 11, my regular size. The 10.5 fits a bit snugly for a pair of work/hiking boots. The style and construction are great! I think that these may take awhile to break in, but I expect that they will last a long time. I will update my review when the 11's arrive.

These are my second pair of Chippewa Boots. My last ones lasted for years. I hope these will do the same. My only complaint is that the tongue on one shoe hasn't quite folded in right, so it takes so adjusting. But maybe that'll get sorted out in time.

Bought these for my husband. Just out of the box they look great and he says the fit well. He wears a 10 or 10.5 but because of the reviews I decided to go with a 9.5 Wide. He also wears thick socks so I was a bit worried but they seem to be fine in fit. He has Sno-Sealed them and the darkened color is VERY nice. The ratings for fit are hard to choose here because we purchased a size other than what he normally wears. Do I say that the 9.5 is big because it fits just right on someone who wears a 10.5? Not sure. I just recommend you buy a half or maybe even a full size smaller than normal.

I bought these boots for a trip to Italy where I was going to do a lot of walking. When I received these boots, I loved the look of them. Great workmanship, smelled great, excellent build quality. I REALLY wanted to keep them, but they were so stiff I was super afraid that they would rub sores on my feet and ruin my trip. I wore then around the house for several nights, trying to make up my mind. Finally, I decided to keep them. I pulled the tags off and wore them every minute possible leading up to my trip just days away, hoping that they would break in and become more comfortable. The gamble paid off. The boots performed great for my trip where I averaged 17,000 steps per day. The boots are very comfortable now and didn't create a single blister or hot spot during my trip. These boots are my favorite! Expect them to be super stiff for the first week. At first, they were so stiff, they caused one of my heels to move up and down a bit in the boot (the primary cause of my concern about blisters). Regardless, the boots broke in and there is no movement now. Also, be aware that the comfort of these boots relies heavily on how loosely or how tightly you lace them. Pay attention when lacing. I had to force myself to lace them a bit loosely to improve comfort. Ultimately, after my trip to Italy, I consider these boots to be VERY comfortable. Even after my trip, where they got a lot of use, they still look brand new (just a bit more flexible now). I expect to wear them every day from here on. This is a very high quality, tough, rugged, well built boot with excellent styling as well. I went with the wide version. Glad I did.

These are the best boots I have ever owned! Extremely comfortable and a really mild break in (in my experience). They look great after a bit of mink oil, too.

Really nice boots, put them on walked around the house for a while and could not believe how well they fit and feel. I would recommend these boots any day and they are made in the USA! I can wear them all day doing anything ! Chippewa knows how to make good shoes/boots.

I just got these boots and I love them! I took the advice of other reviewers and got a full size smaller, usually I wear an 11 so I got the 10. Also, I ordered them in the double EE width. I don’t have a super wide foot but I’m glad I did, the fit is perfect. These boots look great too, I don’t even want to wear them to work, but I will. If you use mink oil on them, it will darken them up quite a bit, but I like it. Great price as well!
