These seem very comfortable from the ankle down and way too stiff and rubby from the ankle up. Returning. (Man made materials.) Might be okay with heavy hiking socks and tucked in pants.

I ended up buying these in a size 10, one size larger than my regular size. I am so glad as I have a great fit with extra socks! I saw one other review that said the traction in ice and snow are great. Not! I fell twice on the ice with these but I wear a set of removable ice cleats and that solved the falling problem! So comfortable as is every Merrell shoe that I own! I highly recommend these!

I. LOVE. These boots. I have a circulation problem called pernio, which boils down to feeling like I have frost bite almost instantly if I go out in the cold without proper gear. I have been struggling for the past 3ish years to find a decent pair of boots that I can wear in just a few inches of snow. I was fortunate to get some ultra-heavy duty boots last year for higher levels of snow, but they just aren't practical for where I live now, and for snow that isn't up to my knees. These boots are great, because they have the rubber, which keeps the snow/water out. They also have a nice rounded/wider toe box, which also allows for thicker socks, but it's not like trying to wear a clown-shoe if I wear slightly thinner socks. Also, I recently sprained my ankle (I think the day before I got these), and so the ankle support is fantastic. In southern Colorado, snow is easily turned into black ice as the temperature warms, but hovers near freezing. I'm thrilled to have something that provides super defined grips on the bottom, and strong ankle support to prevent further ankle injuries. Finally, I have done a good amount of walking around in these, and they are quite comfortable. I can see how the ankle area might rub if you don't have proper socks/pants, but with socks on it doesn't bother me, and my feet are toasty-warm. Plus, they are cute with jeans!

These boots are rugged, truly waterproof, yet incredibly comfortable. And best of all they keep my feet warm! Other mid-height boots hit my "athletic" calves in just the wrong place, these slope just slightly at the back of the boot making the fit and movement perfect. I highly recommend!

Just received these yesterday and wore them this morning. I walk dogs for a living and needed warm, waterproof boots comfortable enough to walk in. So far, I'm in love. Very lightweight, very warm and very comfortable. They could use a little more arch support but the insole is removable and I could replace it if needed. Easy to put on and not so bulky that I can't drive in them, these are a winner.

Love these boots! They are so comfy and there is plenty of room in the toe box so that if I want to wear more than one pair socks, I can. In other boots I tried I needed a size larger so that I would have room to double up on socks. You don't need to order up in these boots. When it's cold outside I wear them like a shoe and couldn't be more pleased.

I have a very high arch and I cannot tie the boot tight enough. Hence there is gapping in that area. Not for me. I'm sure it would work for another foot.

Merrell disappoints me again! Several years ago I owned many, many pairs and different styles of Merrells. Loved their Winter Mocs for getting around and for dog walking in snowy, cold conditions. Their hiking boots were surprisingly comfortable as well although I decided that Hi-Tec was even better! Fast forward, every now and again, I try this brand and in the past 5 years have found that the styling, while fine, no longer fits my foot (with toe beds getting narrower and heels, wider in their designs) and quality has gone markedly south. I ordered Columbia Bugaboo 2's to try along side these since these had 37 reviews, some quite positive. I ordered an 8M, my usual outdoor shoe (not 7.5M sandal size) and they were gigantic all over with almost no support in the thin insole. I even stuck a Smartfeet winter insole in instead and that only provided a little support. In terms of style, I like the rounded rubber toe but the whole boot looked "cheap" and insubstantial for a winter casual (not hiking or snowshoeing boot) so back they go and I will write a review about the Columbia boots. I will say that the height of the shaft was comfortable for my feet. Thank you, Zappos, yet again with the alacrity with which my boots appeared. You saved me when I discovered that my 15-year old Columbia's Bugaboos totally fell apart! So much for Merrell!

Love these boots! Tried at least 6 other pairs before settling on these. Kept me toasty warm and dry in Montana in February, snowshoeing and dog sledding. They are so comfortable, I wish I could wear them all the time.

Love, love these boots! The support in them is excellent. We live in the Northeast and when we had the snowy weather a few weeks ago these boots were great. Good support for walking around city sidewalks and warm too.

Excellent quality and fit in this boot. I ordered 1/2 size up to accommodate heavy socks and the fit was perfect. But I didn't realize from the photo that they are such a heavy duty boot, really a clomp through the snow and walk the dogs boot. I just don't need something that clunky here in MD where we rarely see much snow. They seem incredibly durable and very well insulated. The area around the ankle is quite stiff, but probably just takes time to become a little more flexible. Overall, this is a very good value for the protection from snow, ice or cold that it provides. I am sticking with another Merrell boot, the Dewbrook.

These are the best snow boots I've ever had. I use them every day for long walks in the snowy woods with my dog. I walk at least 1/2 hr to 1.5 hours per day in them. They are comfortable, supportive and warm. I bought a half a size bigger than I wear in regular shoes so I could wear thick socks with these boots. I highly recommend them!

Don't buy these boots! Like other reviewer said, the ankle is really stiff. I thought they'd break in, but instead the ankle portion started to crease and jab painfully into my ankle. I never want to put these on my feet again! I don't know the correct term, but there are only 4 holes for the laces to go through on each side of the tongue, so it was impossible to get a snug fit. My heel slipped, even after re-ordering a whole size down. There is a ton of room in the toe box. You'd have to have really tall feet to fill that space. They are waterproof though, no problem in that department. I needed a light weight winter boot for. Walking the dogs in all weather conditions, in the woods and on the road. They are lightweight but the fit was just all wrong. I love Merrell's, but these were a big disappointment. And I just wanted to mention that Zappos customer service is absolutely amazing!

I bought these a few years ago and holy cow they’re still holding fast. They’ve kept my feet warm and dry while snowshoeing, sledding and walking trails with my dog.

For winter, these are the shoes to have!! Excellent, super confortable!

I usually wear a size 8 and went up a half size in this boot. The 8.5 fit perfect and are very comfortable. I wanted a pair of boots for running around the city during inclement weather and these fit the bill.

Great fit! Extremely comfortable. I expected, as most Merrells, a more narrow fit, but was perfect on my high instep and wider foot.

After trying 8 different kinds and pairs of boots, the Merrells were the ones that didn't hurt my cranky ankle, let me wear more than one pair of socks at a time and gave my toes plenty of room. They will keep my feet nice and warm on my trip to Iceland and Norway this winter. I got a half size larger than normal, although my regular size would have worked. I just wanted my toes to be comfy...

These are wonderful boots. They are slightly stiff as expected, but after the first wear are just fine. They are wonderfully warm, provide great traction, easy on and off. I have a Merrell tall boot that failed after one season because of the zipper. This mid boot is far better and even warmer somehow. I recommend this boot highly. So far it handles northern Michigan cold, wet, and icy.

These boots are awesome! I wore them in the worst snow conditions and my feet couldn't have stayed any warmer or drier. I agree with the other comments that the ankle area is quite stiff but they seemed to relax a bit the more I wore them. I bought my daughter a different pair of boots that didn't compare and they were more money. I'll be buying her these this winter!

These are very comfortable, snow season isn't here yet, but I am looking forward to wearing these cozy shoes, They are true to size which is uncommon for boots like this

These boots are perfect! I bought them for a trip to Iceland and they have well withstood the snow and rain here. My feet stay warm and dry with wool socks and these boots. I was pleasantly surprised that even though the toe box is quite wide, they don't make my narrow feet uncomfortable. They have good support.

I love this boot. I ordered a 9.5 as I am in most shoes. Trying them on for the first time I was surprised. They are lighter than sneakers, feels like I'm swearing a slipper. There is a tiny bit of extra toe room but it feels perfect. No part of this boot feels stiff to me. Everyone loves the look. I can fit the bottom parts of my pants in nicely. My only concern is the top two parts that you wrap the lace around. They seem very well made but I hope they hold up well for a long time. I've worn them twice in 2ft of snow and no snow got in. Very warm with a good pair of socks too.
