I just got mine and I love them! I got the cognac color, it looks a little darker in person but I almost like it better than the picture. The size fits perfectly. For people who have had trouble getting their foot past the heel; a woman at a shoe store told me when you first get a boot like this you need to use a plastic bag to slip your foot in initially, and that you should wear them around the house for a bit to wear them in. It worked great for me!

Getting your foot into the boot has to do with two things: 1) how high your arch is---mine is quite high and hits the top of the boot way before the heel can slide in; 2) how open your ankle joint is---if you can flatten out the top of your foot in line with your shin hinging the joint fully open you have a better shot at getting in. If you have high arches and/or feet that don't point sharply (open ankle joints) this isn't the boot for you. In fact, most pull on boots with a slim-to-the-ankle fit will not make it over your foot. Bodies are built in all kinds of ways---not every boot is for every body.

I purchased a pair of knee high Frye boots after being recommended by someone who wears Frye for everything including horseback riding competitions. I loved them when I received them and although they felt a little small in the ball of my foot, I wore them. They did become more comfortable and shape to my feet. After about 10 months the heels began to show serious wear. At about 11 months the heel binding completely ripped and they are no longer wearable. I am so disappointed! I never thought that boots that cost this much would fall apart so quickly. I have had many other leather boots from other companies and have kept them for years, getting minor repairs done. These were the most expensive pair and the fastest to fall apart even though I wore them no more than once a week. I have returned them (because Zappos is awesome) and I will look for a new pair of boots, from another company.

Do not listen to any of the negative reviews about these boot because they are absolutely gorgeous. I have them in Stone Wash and they are fabulous. The pictures online actually do them no justice at all. In person, they are a beautiful distressed grey color and after putting the weatherproofing cream, they are a tad darker and look even better. As for sizing, I find they run true, maybe a tad big. I am a true size 7 (my normal Frye size as I have the Veronica Slouch and James Lace Up) and they are perfect and not tight at all. I might put in my insoles to make them a bit more snug, but otherwise they are great. The calf is nice and tight too, but not too tight. My calf measures about 14" around, and these fit like a glove almost, so word to ladies with larger calves to avail of Zappos' free returns in case these are too tight. Also, I am 5'2" and these boots just hit below my knees, which looks great with skinny jeans and dresses. The shaft is a similar height to that of Hunter's tall boots if that helps. Overall I am extremely satisfied and these are definitely worth the high price tag.

PERFECT flat riding boot! I was looking for just the right flat riding boot for about a year. Well, this is it! I chose the hammered full grain leather - expensive, but worth it. I get a lot of compliments. I love that it's a slip on. No zippers or closures. The shape of the shaft is perfect: a little bit of a straighter shape. The straps around the ankle are a perfect touch. They are a perfect blend of sophisticated polish, and downtown cool. Perfect for any and all occasions! I am usually a size 6.5, and reading a couple of other reviews, I thought I would have to size up, which I did. I ordered a size 7, and it was too big. I exchanged for a 6.5, and it's perfect. Roomy enough for thick socks too.

So I ordered these very excited; however, was a little disappointed when they arrived. They are stone washed leather, but to me, just appeared too used and old. I am a big fan of Frye boots, but these looked like I had already been working in the stables in them for years. Not the look I was really going for. Sadly they will go back and the search will continue.

Similar story- got them and couldn't get my foot past the ankle. I wear an 8.5-9 and ordered a 9. Don't want to order a 9.5 or 10 and have the foot be too big. Going to be exchanging for a different style.

Just like my other pair of Frye boots, these are amazing. Comfortable (after a very brief breaking in period), classy, long lasting. Would order these again in a heartbeat.

I just got these boots and when I open the box I was disappointed. The pictures show black shiny boots. These boots are very dull. I love the style and the style is fine if I was wanting casual boots. I was looking for more of a dress boot. I love Frye boots. I own five pairs.

Love love these boots! After purchasing many styles of Frye boots, I really wanted this boot with no zippers and a pull on look. I have a very high arch and after trying the plastic bag thought there must be an easier way to get these on. For everyone out there: Sheplers sells an 18inch boot horn! It is awesome and problem solved for me!

I LOVE these boots! I am a boot-aholic (especially Frye) and these are now my favorites. They are casually elegant and incredibly comfortable. I have had multiple food the leg surgeries and I can walk all day in these. The ankle is graceful and may be a bit narrow for some. They can dress up or down. Zappos people, if you're reading this, please bring back this boot in all the variety of colors!

These boots are beautiful! However...they are definitely darker (some red looking colors). I have athletic calves (not huge, but muscular) and I was convinced from reviews that they would fit. Sadly, between my high arches and wider calves, I couldn't get these boots on. I'm not returning because my mom tried them on and wants them. I wish they had a wide calf option for this style.

Beautiful boots! A bit darker than the picture. I wanted a lighter color so I am returning but already ordered the copper! Cant wait for decent weather to wear them! They do feel a bit narrow but I have a feeling that they will expand as the leather gets worn in a bit. I plan to wear thinner socks til they do. This is my first pair of quality leather boots and I am so happy with them.

I ordered these boots because I saw them at Free People and thought, yippee, finally a black flat boot that everyone doesn't have. I also could not get my foot past the ankle, but tried the plastic bag trick and it slid right in. They will stretch and be perfect. Thanks to the writer of that review.

Love, love, love these boots! So well made and so classic. The construction on these boots is so well done. These would have lasted me forever, but unfortunately they need to go back. But only because they are a little too tall on my short legs and also won't really fit over my athletic calves. Wish these would have fit.

I just got mine a few days ago, I love them. I got them in redwood. I got a 7.5 which is what I normally wear, I was a little worried because I know Frye boots can be hard to get on (I have experienced it too with a bad eBay purchase). But with a little push my feet slid into these boots (I also have a high arch/instep) and I'm sure they will be easier to get on as I wear them more. I like these better than the Melissa Button because I feel like everyone has those.

I ordered these in the Stone Stone Wash. The boots had a little more black and person and was a gorgeous color. I ordered half a size up (I have two Frye boots in a 9, I ordered 9½) and they fit perfectly. The leather is soft so it is easy to break in.

After tirelessly searching for the perfect Frye boots to fit my athletic calves, I found the Shirley Riding Plate. Love the rubber outer sole for traction. The shaft shape is just what I was looking for - straight like a tue riding boot. Gorgeous leather is durable but soft. The hammered copper color actually looks darker and less orangey in person. Will likely be buying in more colors... Can't beat Frye quality and Zappos service!

Just received my boots and like some others of you, they are too tight in the ankle. I tried the plastic bag on the foot trick and I could get them on, but they will have to go back for a half size larger. Really beautiful boots, though.

This boot is one of the prettiest boots I've seen! I hesitated because of the price, but they are worth every penny. The look is so classic it will be in style forever. This is my first pair of Frye boots, and I just ordered another pair. I'm kind of of boot addict, so that might not be a good thing. :) I ordered the charcoal hammered and they are the perfect neutral if you don't want a black boot. I wear a ton of black and these go with everything! I'm a true 7 1/2 and average width, these fit spot on and I didn't go up or down a size.

I LOVE these boots! They are super comfortable. And yes, as the other reviews state, they can be a bit difficult to get on the first few wearings...but the actual bootstraps help so much! I was on my feet in them for 12 hours a day, 2 days in a row, and had no issues. Definitely worth the investment.
