After reading the reviews I ordered half a size up, and that was too big! I am a 6½, and ordered a 7. But I absolutely love these boots. They are exactly what I have been looking for all year. They are amazing, soft leather (I got the dark brown hammered full grain leather), the shape of the boot is perfect (rather straight, not much shaping at the ankle, like real riding boots), and the straps around the ankle are the coolest touch. I ordered my true size, 6½, and cannot wait for them to arrive!

I do not understand why people are complaining that they cannot get their feet past the ankle. I recently got my Frye Shirley Riding Plate boots, and my feet slide in and out easily, quickly, and without any effort yet still feels secure and well fitted to my feet. In fact, they are easier to put on and take off than many of my other boots by other designers that have zippers on the sides. I do not have particularly narrow feet, either. I wear a size 7, got a size 7, and they fit perfectly. Also, someone had said they felt the boots did not look right on her because she is 5'2". I am 5'3", and I think they still look great on me. They hit me just below my knees. As far as appearances go, these boots are absolutely gorgeous. I got the Copper Hammered color, and I could not love them more. They are the perfect rich brown-red, the leather is of excellent quality, and the grain has just the right blend of rustic-refined finish. They look great with skinny jeans or a dress/skirt. These boots are exactly what I have been looking for all season. I was hesitant to buy these boots because of some of the negative reviews and the hefty price tag, but I am so glad that I decided to go for it! I could not be happier with them.

These shoes were a 1/2 size smaller than my other Frye boots. I could barely get them on feet. I'm normally an 8 1/2 in flats and heels but consistently size up a half size in my boots so I can wear bigger socks, and even then, the nines were too small! Definitely size up!

Frye Shirley Riding Plate in Black Smooth Full Grain Leather 6½M - Pretty, but the leather was very stiff and formal and looked like it would crack if bent while walking. Although I think the circumference was about 14¾", I could not get my high-arched feet to make the angle and sit flat inside the footbed. A classic look for the right chick, though. Thanks for making the return easy, Zappos.

Although I did not keep these boots, they are a lovely pair. I like the style and color just wanted something that looked a little more fitted in the ankle and calf area. Since they are pull on with no zipper the ankle is a bit big on me. They did not look bad, just wanted a different look. They do feel like they run narrow. They are cute, I just ended up going with a different style of Frye boots.

I have high arches and wider calves (15"), and I have been looking for a pair of slip on riding boots that I could get my feet into for a long time and pretty much gave up. After reading all the reviews and dreaming about these boots, I decided to give it a try again. I had to bring them to a cobbler to get stretched in the arch and a little in the shaft (so I could wear them comfortably with jeans), and after using plastic bags on my feet for a couple of days, I now have my new favorite boots. I normally wear a size 9, but I found these to be more comfortable in a 9½. Frye is known for their sturdy construction, so I think these boots took longer to break in then other leather boots I have owned, but now that they are broken in, they are the most comfortable boots I have. In all honesty, if you have high arches, getting into any slip on boot will be a battle, but with a little dedication and some hard work, it can happen.

I have looked for a pair of knee-high boots for almost 2 years before I found these. I love that they are tall and come up to slightly below my knee (I have long legs so this has been a challenge). They fit well right out of the box; I had no problems slipping my foot in. I ordered my typical shoe size 9. The foot bed didn't require more than a day to break in however, the boot shaft was a bit stiff and made driving difficult but broke in after 3 weeks. I also love that they do not have zippers so there is nothing to snag on my tights or pants. I hope to wear these boots for a very long time.

These are nice boots, but I would have thought for this price they would have been made of thicker leather. The leather is kind of thin. Soft and comfortable though.

I got these boots because I wanted a tan boot. I already have and love my Paige Tall Riding Boot that I've had for two years and I've actually worn out the sole and Frye replaced it under warranty. I loved that these booths have a rubber sole unlike the leather sole on my other boots.
I had no problems getting my foot in, it slipped on perfectly, no problem with the calve area, it was a little tight but I know it will stretch over time. The reason I am having to return them is it's too tight in the toe box for me. I'm in between an 11 and a 12, and these are just a little too tight in an 11 but the length is fine.

Holy smokes, is this boot darker in real life than the image would lead you to believe! Definitely more of a dark brown than a cognac. Fortunately, I love the color and the only reason I ordered it in the light brown was because I already owned a pair of Merrells in dark brown. The craftsmanship of these shoes is gorgeous. The leather is soft and supple and just beautiful. So far I have spent about 10 hours total wearing these shoes and the heal and top arch of my foot both rub against the shoe itself. However, having owned a pair of real-leather boots oft his nature before, I feel confident they will wear in quickly and comfortably to wear there is no discomfort. I think these boots are definitely worth the cost as they are so beautiful, but I've also been saving up/staring at these bad boys for the past 2 months now...worth the wait!

Bought these to replace the Paige Frye boots by dog chewed up. It was a pricey thing to replace, so I was happy to find a good price on these (same boots on a-zon for more! same color!). They are a beautiful, rich color. Not a polished look at all, they are definitely meant to be worn looking, but not as though someone would be like "why did that chick buy used boots?!" They have a vintage-esque feel. Compared to the Paige boots, they are tight. I bought 8.5. I am 5'9" and have 14.5" calves. I normally wear 8.5 in flats and sneakers, and sometimes a 9 in heels. Both the calves and foot area are tight for these, even though they are the same size I bought for Paige. Another piece worth noting - the stylin' straps around the ankle can be undone. I could not get these boots on without doing that. They are adjustable, too. I thought it was that logo plate on the heel that was restricting me from getting my boats in there but it was really the straps. I'm keeping these and hoping they stretch, but I'd think about sizing up if I were you!

I was a little worried after reading the reviews that these boots would be hard to get on, but after the first time I am easily able to slip them on and off. I love them but keep in mind, if you buy the stone washed, they look pretty beat up.

Never write reviews...but I love these boots. They're durable and withstand any weather. Not too much room for calf muscles and lower legs that aren't the slimmest. I'm 5'2 and130lbs so I'm not huge but I struggle to put them on with jeans! And I struggle sometimes putting them on as there is no zipper. Ugh. Although, it didn't irritate me this time as I've grown to expect this with Frye boots. Still, good boot, but you need patience when taking them on and off if you don't have the slimmest model leg. I got some nice legs though, haha.

The boots look good on, tight in the feet though I must say, but I could get them on with one tug. My feet are flat. They are a little tall for my short legs, and I am too boring for the cool weathered color (dark brown stone wash). Also I have an office job so I cannot be too edgy! The shaft has a nicer cut than you see in the video (I thought they would be too funnel-looking without any shape). I am trying to decide if I should try on the black (a little easier for my job). They would be great for a college student.

This boot is gorgeous and looks even better in person. Unfortunately, like a lot of Frye riding boots, the shaft is just way too tall for me. I'm 5'2, and the shaft comes up to my knee, and ends up looking pretty silly. Thus, I returned them. If you're taller than me, say 5'5 and above you may really love this boot though and it will fit you well. Another thing to note about Fryes is that their fit is variable for each pair -- for example, the ones I ordered were a little more snug in the right foot than the left. Overall -- Great boot, love Fryes, just too tall.

These boots are gorgeous, but unfortunately they are way too tall. I am average height at 5'4" and these hit me right at the back of the knees, so that they dig in when I sit down (and the leather is stiff). I do not know who they are made for, apparently tall women, but they are not wearable for someone of my size. That was very disappointing, otherwise they would have been perfect.

No way the inner circumference of these is 15.5. It needs a zipper. I have a very high arch and I couldn't even get them on. Loosening the straps around the ankle makes no difference. Disappointing. They hardly make any styles with zippers...wish they would.

I absolutely LOVE these boots. I ordered the Cognac Stone Wash, and was expecting them to be more orange-y as in the picture. When they came, they looked more like the Dark Brown Stone Wash with some hints of orange. So pretty. Unfortunately, I have to return them since the shaft was too skinny for my calfs. I don't have huge legs at all, and I could get the boot almost on but it was just too tight and I wouldn't even be able to wear leggings or jeans with them. So sad to have to return these! They are such great boots.

Love the looks of these boots. Great leather, beautiful workmanship. However...I have a narrow foot and still could not get my foot past the ankle part of the shaft. So disappointing. Fortunately, Zappos makes returns super easy.

These are beautiful boots, a little narrow, so if you have a wide foot, beware. I own an older pair of Frye boots and had no hesitation ordering these based on the quality of my other pair. However, with these, the heel began to come apart from the sole after only one season of wear. I wore them no more than once or 2 times a week for 5 months, and I'm not hard on shoes or a big person. I felt so disappointed. It had been more than one year after I ordered them from Zappos so I didn't know if they would work with me. But, I called anyway. Customer service was awesome. This is why I love Zappos. They allowed me to return the boots and choose another brand. Long story short - I think Frye makes a good boot, and maybe the materials used on this model were defective.

This is a gorgeous boot; unfortunately, even though my feet and calves are perfectly normal in size (not wide or otherwise unusual--skinny, if anything) I could NOT get them into these boots, even when using a boot horn! For this price, I expect a boot that I can at least get onto my foot. Sadly, these will be going back.
