I really wanted to get an older model of the recon because I loved it so very much however now that they don't sell them im very sad and I think you should bring back the older model. I would totally recommend the older model to a friend not this one though.

Overall a good backpack. The material used is durable though I'm not sure how it would do in rainy weather. Lots of pockets of different sizes for your storage needs. Sturdy back for shoulder and back support. The only reason it did not get an extra star was because the laptop compartment was too small for my laptop. Unless you have a smaller than average portable PC you'll find your laptop asking for more space. Otherwise, I'd choose this pack as my everyday carry.

I love the new colors, but I am NOT happy with the new design. I as well wanted a new one for the next school year, and I am so upset that the old recon is now gone. This is much smaller than the old recon, and I wish y'all would bring back the old!!

I ordered the backpack and right away they let me know that due to some changes they were making at the factory it may take longer than advertised. SO, I waited being the impatient man that I am i sent an e-mail to there customer support. They looked up my order and told me EXACTLY when it would be delivered. And it was. Bottom line, they let me know up front about the delay, when questioned about delivery time they were very specific. The customer service was SPOT ON! Highly recommended!!!!

A bit smaller than my old TNF backpack, which had easily held a 17" macbook pro. This one it is a bit more of a squeeze, and all of the padding makes the bottom of the main compartment a bit more narrow, meaning you can't fit some boxy-er items in addition to things like books. This is a minor gripe though, I feel these are the best commuting/school backpacks on the market and will continue to buy them.

I own a Surge and love this bag, I mainly use it for weekend trips because there's so much space and pockets to hold all my belongings. However, I got the Recon because I need a pack to go to and from work. Its perfect. I can stick all my folders, laptop, tablet and there's room for more! Great job TNF on the new straps, I feel I have a ton more movement and love the bigger front pocket to stow my sunglasses and phone. I also like the bigger side pocket, I can actually put my water bottle in it! Thanks TNF!

I love this backpack! I am a female and opted to get the men's version of Recon because it is a little bit bigger. I am a college student so I often have a lot to lug around with me from day-to-day. I am able to fit my laptop, charger, books, lunchbox, wallet, water bottle, thermos, and shaker bottle in here everyday no problem! And the Quill Blue color is bright and awesome! My favorite feature is the small zip pocket in the front, at the top; it gives me easy access to my keys, headphones, and ID.

I still have my original Recon that I bought back in 2005! (When they were good quality products) I got it to go on my first hike in Yellowstone. It was perfect! A great backpack for hiking! I love that it has the straps on the bottom for sleeping bags or jackets!!! However I wanted a new one thinking it was still going to be great for hiking! Boy was I wrong. This new backpack is for someone stuck in a concrete jungle! Sorry but who needs a laptop pocket while hiking the backwoods of a national park?

I ordered the black and "red" it was BRIGHT ELECTRIC PINK, does not appear so bright in the picture. Def not red so if you are looking for a bright pop this is your bag if you don't want it to stick out or people to wear sunglasses when they see you go with all black :) Comfortable bag with great features.

I bought this bag initially for carrying my school supplies and gym gear while commuting on a motorcycle. So far so good, a little tight for everything that I need to jam in there, which it's quite a bit. Construction seems great, and I am happy with my purchase so far, I will be using for hiking as well. Time will tell, the torture I will put this bag through

I've had my North Face Recon backpack for more than ten years and it's still going strong with near-daily use. It's been filled with textbooks, hiking gear, food from the grocery store, and lots more. It's been shoved in overhead compartments, thrown in the trunks of many cars, and set down in nature more times that I can count.
I just logged on to the site to see if they still made it in case I ever need a new one -- glad to see they do, with very minor changes! I doubt I'll need a replacement in the next ten years, but happy to see it's available. I love, love, love my NF recon. Highly recommended. Great size, great quality. All around awesome.

Very cute, comfortable and durable bag. I use it for work to carry books, stuff for work , laptop and lunch. Lots of useful compartments to use. I carry heavy stuff but doesn't feel like its heavy. I got lots of compliment with this bag, got the black with orange straps. The back of the bag feels so soft and comfortable. Very satisfied with this bag, it's worth the money. I'm planning on using this for hand carry for my long distance flight this will be great one.

This is my 3rd Recon. The first one I used for many years for school then work. I sent it to North Face for a replacement zipper. I bought the second one to use while the first one was being fixed. I still carry the first one and gave husband the the 2nd. He eventually gave it son for college. After a year with a different pack husband had to have another recon. Love the new laptop/tablet sleeve.

This pack is great. plenty of storage, comfortable and well made. The only feature that could be improved is the location of the water bottle holders on each side. It is very difficult to reach back and grab a bottle out of the holder with the pack still on. You almost have to take the back pack off to pull the bottles out of the holders.

I purchased this backpack as a replacement for a backpack that was a gift from work. That backpack lasted approximately 2 years. It was primarily used for transporting a 13-inch macbook Pro, an iPad, assorted books, an iPod, computer cables, a number of papers and assorted office supplies. I??ve had my Recon for over a month now and have used it to carry a similar load for routine media support work at our church with no problems, The layout of the Recon actually made the organization of my equipment, books, and other equipment and supplies very intuitive, the equipment was very easy to access after loading out the pack. I recently went on a Youth Ski Trip and used my Recon to carry not only my normal gear but also ski gear: goggles, gloves, face gators & hats, etc??_ I was carrying 2 sets of each piece of equipment, my equipment and a set for use by one of our youth. The pack performed flawlessly. The water bottle pockets are deep enough to hold my water bottles so they don??t fall out, which wasn??t the case with my previous pack. The laptop sleeve holds my laptop very securely, but its still very accessible when I need it. The tablet sleeve is a very nice feature that I??ve come to enjoy, and it holds my iPad in it??s crying case with no problem. When I have my laptop & iPad loaded in the main compartment I still have plenty of room to carry my books and papers without feeling like I??ve overfilled the pack. The second compartment is also very functional and I have been very impressed with the layout of the organizational pockets built into this compartment. Again this compartment has made organizing and accessing my equipment and supplies very easy. Overall this pack has exceeded my expectations.??
