Not an improvement. Be aware if you've had this shoe in the past and are ordering replacement. The sides are now cut 1/4 inch higher and may cut into your ankle bones.

These shoes have no support but I guess you should expect no support in a boat shoe. I developed plantar fasciitis after wearing these for about a year and while I cannot blame it entirely on this pair of shoes, they are the shoes that I wore the majority of the year. When I showed them to my podiatrist he said they are glorified slippers and should not be considered daily regular use shoes. If you are looking for something that looks nice for limited use these would work fine but I would not recommend wearing these every day for hours on end. I am in a world of hurt because of it.

This was not the color that I ordered. I ordered the Distressed Taupe color and was sent the Taupe color.

Straight away these shoes started cutting my ankles. The leather is thin and hard. I've tried breaking them in by various means but after two months they still are bothersome. My last 4 pair were made in Bangladesh and these are made elsewhere . I'm done ordering this shoe and my next will be Sperry or Nautica.

The Timberland Kia Wah boat shoe is absolutely the most uncomfortable shoe I have ever owned. The insole is very "hard", the leather is extremely stiff, and the leather shoe laces are obnoxious to tie.

Within 3 minutes of putting the shoes on I knew they had to be returned. Although the shoes were soft, comfortable, and stylish, the laces felt like hemp or twine and the rest of the material had a rough, paper-like feel to it. I guess that's fitting with the "Earthkeepers" product line so I really should have anticipated this. I ordered a half-size smaller than my sneakers and they were still a half-size too large - expect to order a full size smaller than your sneaker size. They felt true to width. If you look to wear these on a regular basis and if you do quite a bit of walking or standing at work, I would advise against these shoes. If you're looking to wear something nice but casual to Sunday Mass or a barbecue, then you could probably get away with them. Of course I will keep my business with Zappos!
