Upon opening the package immediately I started laughing as I thought this was a kids hat. It looks like a baby bottle nipple on my head. Too bad because it's of course quality materials just like my base layers from Smartwool

I liked the hat but the style of the hat was not for me so I returned it.

I bought this in an attempt to replace my beloved SmartWool beanie that was lost during a recent move. That particular hat traveled through many countries and over many miles with me. While I knew I could not replace the memories, I was hoping to at least regain its solid effectiveness.
This newer version, while still lightweight and warm(ish) pales in comparison to its predecessor (the version with the logo along the edge instead of mid-hat). The older version was slightly thicker, woven tighter, and hugged my head in a most pleasing manner. This newer version slips off easily with any kind of regular movement: hiking, working around the yard, etc - especially when paired with a hood of any kind.
There are four people in my close circle who became SmartWool purchasers after hearing me rave about my beloved, dark blue, old style beanie. After experiencing the new version, I will not be singing beanie praises any more. No, it is not a horrible hat but it is very definitely inferior to the past version and, for me, no longer *awesome* above and exclusive of other available products. Too bad.

Other Smartwool products have helped me survive my first Wisconsin winter, so I bought this hat. I'm sure it is fine for days above 30 degrees, but it doesn't cut it for the sub-freezing temperatures we've seen this winter. If you're looking for a good fall hat, this will do the trick. If you're looking for a winter hat in colder northern climates, look elsewhere.

The beanie is very tight which made it hard to wear for more than 15 minutes.

I have been using this product for walking at night. Not warm enough in -15C temps but Ok with a hood over it. Wish it was a little longer so it covers my ear lobs. Like that it is light weight and made of Merino. I wouldn't buy it again

returned this week. I have a ball cap size of 5 7/8, and this was no where near large enough

Very small hat. Tight didn't fit my husband

I wanted to like this to wear with the gator and the vest I bought. The vest was perfect but the gator was too big and the hat was WAY too small. I do have a larger head but still...I can't imagine who this fits well.

Product spec says 1.06 oz. Came up as 2.15 oz. For those purchasing because of the ultralight weight, it will be twice as heavy as advertised.

I use this to run and while it is comfortable and warm, it wore out very quickly. I've had mine barely a year and there are tears and holes in it. I am sad this happened because I really like the beanie, it just doesn't hold up well.

Really wanted to like this beanie but just after I wore it for the first time, the beanie became outstretched and lost the feeling of its original fit.

I've been purchasing these for years. Always used to love the tight fit. This year's is looser fitting and just doesn't feel as well-made. Disappointed.

I was looking for a good winter hat to keep my head and ears warm. This hat is comfortable, but it is too thin. In temperatures around 33 degrees, with moderate wind, I used to fill the chill on my head. Moreover, it is short too, so won't cuff up thick as shown in the picture on the ears and my ears were rendered cold. For such performace, I found it too expensive!

The old version of this hat was EPIC. Best hat I ever had. For some reason SmartWool moved the logo from the cuff to the top of the hat and redesigned the stiching. The old hat was SO MUCH BETTER. I much prefer smartwool but I will be using a Minus33 beanie until SmartWool brings back the old design. Please bring back the old design smart wool. Please!

It is made for a baby-sized head. I followed the return and refund procedure (within a few days of receiving the product) but haven't heard back on that -- and I'm not holding my breath.

This hat is good, but it's not as good as the older version. As other reviewers have mentioned the logo was moved, you used to be able to hide the logo by flipping the cuff up once extra but now that its on the front of the hat your forced to display the logo or not wear the hat. They also changed the body and stitching which makes it harder to double roll the cuff as well. Very frustrating as the last version was so great I bought five. I still have a few unused left but they only last a year or so.. I really hope smartwool brings back the old design it was a fantastic product, and I don't even like the new one much at all.
