I also experienced a little bit of difficulty with the zippers, but I put some weatherproofing protector on it which was a bit waxy in texture, and now the zipper works great! You could also probably try rubbing a candle along the zipper.

Love these boots! They are very comfortable, a bit edgy, great leather. Back zipper on mine works fine, so there may be some variability. My feet are shallow/narrow, and these are fine for me, so perhaps not great for wider feet. They run just a tad long but consistent with other Frye's I've tried. There is some arch support (wish there were more) and the soles are well padded. I'm very tall and don't find heels above 1" to be comfortable, so I love the low heel height on this boot. Can't wait to be wearing them all the time in fall and winter.

These are just super cool. They are comfortable, the zipper works fine, and there is a perfect gap from the leather to my ankle. Did I say they were super cool?

Love these boots, and all of my Frye boots -- The zipper on one boot was a bit stuck at first. It had a bit of extra leather and glue, which I cut off, and the zipper worked fine. As with all Frye shoes, a bit of breaking-in was all that was required to make them wonderful. Short height means I don't have to wear high socks, so I can wear these in slightly warmer weather. Wow!

: My search is over!! I have been looking for the "perfect" little black boot for 18 months. After trying on at least 15 (thanks for the great return/exchange policy, Zappos!!), I finally found them while looking at Frye sandals...yeah, really the wrong time of year to be buying boots, but now I'm set for fall! These boots are beautiful! They look fabulous with skinny or boot cut jeans and the mold to your foot with just a little wear. I may need them in another color.

At 5'3" tall, I found that these boots did not flatter my legs. I thought the shaft around the ankle was a tad too tight. I was looking for a boot that I could wear with skinny jeans and leggings. They were very comfortable in the footbed; however, and I wish they would have been more flattering on. I ordered my normal size (8.5) in the black soft vintage leather and found them to fit nicely. Sadly, I have to return them, as I just don't see myself wearing them.

Gorgeous boot but it took three tries to get an acceptable pair where both boots fit appropriately or were matched well. The first pair I received, one boot was noticeably too wide. The second pair were cosmetically flawed, the outer soles were different colors (one black/grey the other dark brown). The third pair, just right. Frye needs to notice that their production quality is variable at best. I expect better quality from Frye (this is the third pair I own). Zappos, however, excelled at customer service and made the exchanges professionally and quickly.

I was really disappointed that I couldn't keep these. My normal size is a 6, but there was no way that was going to fit. Painfully small. So I exchanged for a 6.5 and even those were too tight. They were cramped in the toe box (not so much in the length, but in the height of the toe box) and still way too hard to zip in the back. They are very cool looking, but even after wearing in the house for an hour or so, I just had to exchange them. I'll try a different model and see if I have better luck.

I loved the style - not too short and not too bulky. I ordered the Black Stone Antiqued because I wanted black boots and wasn't fond of the white-washed soles of the Black Soft Vintage Leather. After analyzing the reviews, I went for the 7 1/2; I usually wear 7 1/2 - 8 and usually closer to 8, and my feet are average width. I wore them around the house with no socks and with a thin Peds sock for a day and they seemed great. Pretty good support, good traction, and looked great with skinny jeans and skirts. My skinny jeans are apparently not that skinny and look a little balloonish when tucked into the boot; however, the boot opening is narrow enough that skinny jeans over the boot look good. Then I wore them out of the house and was less happy with them and verged on outright disappointment. The boot stretched and are more roomy than I like, which is an unwelcome change. I tried to put in a thin support, but then I can't get my foot in the boot. I also tried a slightly heavier sock and also can't get my foot in. In both cases I don't want to insist on an insert or a heavier sock because I don't want to stretch them out further. I would love more padding on the inside as the balls of my feet are pretty sore after all day of walking in these. My heels still slip, and the zipper goes so low on the boot that the boot isn't a good candidate for those little stick-in heel slip-stoppers. My foot feels like there is a fair bit of room inside, and I was hoping for a close-fitting boot. On the plus side, the ankles are less tight then they were when ascending and descending stairs, and the zipper has been no problem at all. As long as the sock and the liner behind the zipper is tucked in, they zip right up. So not really happy with them and can't send them back since I wore them outside, and now I know to go really small with Frye and expect quite a bit of stretch...if I go with Frye again. Meh for fit, hurrah for style.

Bought size 7 1/2 B as usual. Felt great for first 2 hours then pain became pretty severe at pinky toe area on both feet. Am trying mink oil overnight to soften leather. Hope that works.

I love these boots, and have the short ones in three different colors. Sizing is inconsistent: antique soft run about a half size larger than the stone antiqued. Thus, one pair has been to the shoe guy to have the left one stretched twice, the soft 1/2 larger is reserved for thick socks, and the stone antiqued, 1/2 size larger than my usual boot size is about right. Leather quality is exceptional, style is understated and classy. Be warned about the sizing. Frye seems to have some QC issues these days.

The Frye Phillip Harness short boot in Burnt Red is a beautiful, soft boot. It is more comfortable by far than my Frye 12R boots. Sadly, I have to return them anyway. Zipper is stiff and the fit tight on the ankle. The top of the boot is too snug to look good with dresses or skirts. Back you go, you beautiful boot.

I liked these boots, but not enough to keep them. They just weren't that interesting -- and I am a big Frye fan, have several pairs. I wish the "shaft" part had been looser and a bit floppy.

These boots, ordered in 7.5M, my usual size, were too short and too narrow. My forefoot is on the wide side so occasionally an M doesn't give me enough room in the toe box. Because the boots were painfully tight, I doubt that I can size up and wear this style. Also, as a matter of personal taste, I would not re-order the light camel color, a lovely, soft shade, but I don't like that much contrast with my jeans and slacks. To add to others' comments, the zippers were fine, and the quality seemed fine, in keeping with Frye's reputation.

I originally saw this shoe in a department store. They didn't have my size. I ordered a 6 from Zappos. They were very stiff and my feet were swimming. I returned them and got a 5.5. They too are very stiff and now snug. I'm hopping they will break in. My only complaint is that the ones in the department store were very soft, totally unlike the ones I got. Had I not worn them out I would have returned these too.

I love the look of these boots. They took a little stretching and breaking in - but they are worth it. I do not always say that. The length is fine - I needed more room across the top of my feet. But the leather is quality and style perfect.

I bought 2 pair of the Phillip harness boots in antiqued black. Not only was the first pair a perfect fit, they appeared to have been worn well and hard just as pictured on the Zappos site. Sadly, at the time, I felt that they were a bit spendy for my budget and so, they were returned. Having second thoughts, I reordered the same style only to find that they did not fit as well as the first boots I ordered, the zipper was at best - difficult, the leather stiff and rather than appearing worn? The boots looked as though someone tossed talcum powder on them and so, they will be returned. Becasue at their best, they're a great boot, I'm going to try one more time. Three is the charm is it not?

This is a great looking boot. I have worn them a couple times and still would like them to break in a little more, I have to get used to the zipper in the back, but other than that I love them.

I just tried these boots in black on a few minutes ago. I wear an 8.5 in my other Frye boots and these fit the same. They are very soft and look beautiful both on and off the feet. However, the zipper on the left boot stuck half-way through. It was really disappointing because the quality of the rest of the shoe is so high. However, I do love how these look and feel (besides the zipper), so I am going to exchange these for a different pair, same style. Hope both of the zippers run smoothly on the next pair.

First bought a size 10 based on the reviews that this style of Frye boot runs 1/2 size smaller. Wasn't convinced so I got the 9.5 just to be sure. With thin socks the 9.5 were snug, and not in a good way. I'm wondering...a lot of complaints about the zipper. Must vary from boot to boot because I have no trouble zippering the 10s; the 9.5s proved tough. Although because of snug fit, I believe back of my foot/part of zipper were getting in the way. Okay, so, I'm 99% sure I'm keeping the 10s. They are really stunning and I think we will be very happy together.

These are really stylish boots and if you find the right size, comfortable too! Got them in black which will just about go with everything; dresses, jeans, tights, leggings. A solid staple for my wardrobe. The leather is soft and pliable in the shaft area but not in the foot area in case anyone wants an idea about texture.

I was excited to get these boots but ow. I usually get an 8½ in Fryes. This time the 8½ were too tight! I then ordered a 9. The 9's were too big! I guess I send them both back and give up!

I received these boots today in the Cognac Stone Antique. I normally wear a size 9 shoe. In Frye boots, I normally wear an 8.5. I ordered these in a 9 based on the reviews. The boots are gorgeous. The distressing is wonderful and not overdone. I think the 9s were the way to go (the 8.5 isn't available right now) especially since I tend to wear thicker socks. The 8.5 would have been snug and required some loosening up over time...probably not a bad thing...but it sure is nice to have a boot that fits the way it's supposed to. My feet aren't cramped and there is a teeny bit of slippage which is normal in a boot. Overall, I would agree with the other reviewers and say that this boot runs a 1/2 size small for Frye. If you wear a 9 shoe...try the 9 boot. The heel is exactly what I was looking for. The look of the boot is edgy and stylish without being butchy. My other harness boots are just too big and clunky. The Phillip Harness is perfection in a low heeled boot. I had minimal trouble with the zipper. I also have the Melissa Tall Lace up boot from Frye and that zipper is a nightmare. It is loosening up over time and I expect this one will, also. Try it!

This was my 4th pair of Frye boots/shoes that I've purchased after having my eye on them for quite some time. I was so excited to get them in the mail, smell that rich leather smell, and put them on my feet. I was so sad when they didn't fit- even in my desperation to make them to fit, I couldn't get the zipper to budge. I wear an 11, so I didn't have the option to order up a size. Plus (while still absolutely beautiful), they are a more narrow fit with a much slimmer ankle shaft, so if you have wider feet/ ankles, this is not the boot for you (us)! But, take heart that there are lots more styles that will work for you! I'm a diehard Frye fan and this little disappointment won't change that! Hope this helps!

I wanted to love these but I am returning them. Apparently the curve of my heel is higher than these boots allow, and I could not get them zipped more than 1". I am giving them three stars because the actual boot fit fine and was comfortable.
