Frye has improved these boots this season. When they first came out last year, they ran really big, had a lot of heel slippage, low quality leather, and the heel was made of some kind of a plastic. Last year I bought the Black Calf Shine Vintage color - and didn't like them - good style, bad quality. This season Frye fixed all those problems and they upgraded to a real stacked heel and the leather is of better quality. They also fit better. I bought the new Black Vintage Tumbled Full Grain and love them! I normally wear an 8 1/2, but I got these boots in an 8. I thought they ran 1/2 size big and the 8 fit me better in this style. Super cool boots, so glad Frye got it right this season!

I love the style of these boots, but I don't get to wear them as often as I like because they are fairly uncomfortable if worn for long periods of time. They look great with everything, but for the price I'd recommend finding something that doesn't leave your feet aching at the end of the night. They run kind of a large, also, I always have to wear thicker socks.

Ended up returning these because I was so disappointed in the color. I got a black calf vintage color hoping it'd be a nice worn down black boot, but when I opened the box it was more of a green/gray color! It just looked...yuck! In terms of fit they were super comfortable. I usually go up half a size in Frye boots because my feet are a little wider/I have a higher arch. My feet slipped in perfectly with these boots and I probably didn't have to go up the half size since it does make my feet look a little bigger. Unfortunately they're sold out in size 8 - otherwise I would've tried this style again, it's a good quality boot for the price. But definitely in a different color!

I am a 9.5 typically, but Frye 9's work best for me. These are huge for a 9. My heel was slipping out. And they are very distressed, much of it gray. Not a true, all over black. Going back to my favorite, the Veronica Short. Same style but shorter heel, better leather, better looking, just better.

I like this boot very much. It is not anywhere close to the quality of the Frye Harness boot though. The style is very nice. However, there is a lot of room to improve this boot. I bought these in black...which has too much of a gray tint. The entire sole should be made of more sturdy material. The toe box needs to have a little more "heft" to it which would partner better with the rest of this style boot. The toe seems to refined and delicate...the rest of the boot is more rustic. Some tweaking in style cut. I'm keeping this boot...but I'm not madly in love with it. This is the first pair of Frye boots I've bought where the quality of materials seems "lesser." Thinner materials. I don't think this boot is going to go the long distance at all. I think these boots are very overpriced due to the quality of materials.

I had heard how great Frye boots were, but I didn't really care for these. The insides of the shaft were scratchy and uncomfortable. They looked nice, but I'm all about comfort.

I really wanted to like these, but the heel was just too much - it was like a huge, chunky, old lady heel...and for the price, it wasn't my style.

Over the years I have amassed quite a collection of Frye boots, and over the years I have seen the quality of these boots plummet. I bought the Vera Short in the Winter of 2013, and within 10 wears the leather trim around the heel began to peel off. No biggie, Frye has a warranty. I shipped them off for a repair. They were returned to me in terrible condition--there was obvious glue smears, and the leather that is supposed to mimic a stacked heel wasn't lined up. What's worse, it too began to peel after a couple of wears. Paying for shipping them back for returns seemed like a waste of money considering the 'repair' on the first go-around. This is the last pair of Frye boots I will be purchasing.

I feel sad to write a negative review about a pair of Frye boots as I am a longtime loyal customer, but I'm just so disappointed in these. First of all, the Black Calf Shine Vintage color is not "black" at all. It's sort of a charcoal gray with greenish undertones, and not in a pre-distressed way. No one would see these boots in a store and call them black. I just compared the leather quality to several other pairs of Frye boots around me (including the similarly-styled Veronica Slouch), and it's noticeably thinner. Huge bummer. Also, the heel isn't stacked! It's some sort of molded synthetic material with lines embossed in it. I spend money on Frye boots because I expect them to last at least a decade and to be repairable as needed. A plastic heel and thin leather that isn't even the right color? No thanks. I really hope this isn't an indication of the quality of all new Frye products.

Ultimately returned. I am a very true size 9 but the 8.5 was the "best" fit for me. Still experienced about 1" to 1.5" of heel slippage and was a little too snug across the toe. Also, ordered the black shine vintage but the dye was a definite grey with strong gold undertones, under no circumstances would I call them black, even the most worn-in, vintage black. Really disappointed with the color and sizing.

Very disappointed in the quality of the leather and the inconsistency of the color. I have other Frye boots and they are great. These didn't seem like they were Frye quality.

I got these almost a year ago, and I have only worn them once! A complete waste of money, but since my husband threw the box away, I couldn't return them. These boots feel like you are wearing bricks on your feet and they are hard and non-pliable! The color is also different than the picture and the true color is a distressed metal gray, but the picture shows a brownish tint. I'm still kicking myself for buying them, and want to kick my husband for throwing away the box! The boot runs large (at least half size) and wide, but I thought I'd wear them with thicker socks in winter... These boots do not compare in quality to my other Frye boots... Sigh

First off I'd like to say I have been a dedicated Frye boot girl for years. I just bought the Vera short boot on 6pm in tan and wanted them in black... so Zappos was the first place I thought to check. I ordered the Black Calf Shine color way.. It is way more distressed then the photo suggests and the heel is made of hollow PLASTIC! My other pair of Veras have better quality leather as well as a stacked solid wooden heel! The weight alone makes this boot from Zappos seem like a CHEAP IMPOSTOR! I am sure this is do to Frye outsourcing it's manufacturing cutting corners with materials to increase their profit margin. I personally would not pay more then 40 bucks for this pair of crappy boots! I suggest trying them on at a retail store so this doesn't happen to you! SO SAD. ): LOL!
