The color: not "blue". More like purple when you get it out in the sun.

Great sneaker but the blue is more purple than blue......

Great support, but a little clunky. The style is quite bland in person.

The red and gray were cool but ran too small even in wide.

Only lasted 3.5 months before the interior was worn through and the newly exposed material was causing blisters. I'm surprised since my general experience with New Balance had previously led me to associate them with longevity.

I have wide feet, so I ordered a wide size, but these are hardly wide at all, and the forefoot is narrow and pinches my toes! Also, it's tight on the instep and the heel is too big. Very awkward, these are going to Goodwill (because I've already worn them out and about).

I was somewhat disappointed with this purchase. I requested the wide size, and they just do not seem as wide as my previous wide New Balance purchases. There was also a small black spot on the top of one shoe near the laces. I tried to wash it out to no avail. It is not that noticeable, I suppose. They are somewhat comfortable and attractive enough even with the stain. I am wearing them a lot.

Somebody told me they liked my outfit until they got to my "grandpa sneakers." They are definitely chunkier and less sleek than they look in the pictures.

I'm a big NB fan and wear their shoes almost exclusively, but the color of the "Blue" version of this shoe looks nothing like the picture. It's much more teal, almost turquoise. The photo clearly appears to be navy blue, and the actual shoe is definitely not navy blue.

Very light in weight, but felt very cheap. make sure you don't do any long or heavy walking in these because you might find yourself taking the bus back home.

Definitely not a running shoe... You get what you pay for here (they feel kind of cheap). I have wide feet and these feel fairly narrow.

I wish they had a 10½ for women's, because they run half a size smaller it seems to me, a 10 is my normal size but my toe was right at the top uncomfortably so had to get an 11 now I have plenty room. An extra half size would have been perfect for my fat feet.

I ordered a 12 but shoe ran smaller and slimmer. Returning. Orange sole not nearly as neon as the picture would have you believe, more like a dark orange brown.

Nice light shoe but definitely not a D width. I wear a B in most shoes and this felt too narrow. If the width was right, it would be very nice.

Wear them for looks and to match sport wear. Do not provide good support. Not for all day walking. My foot slides in it because the inner soles are slippery no matter what sock you wear or how tight shoe laces are.

These shoes are the most stylish you can find in terms of a wide toe box. These shoes are designed with the new balance sl-2 last which is narrow at the heel and wide in the toe box. New Balance was making some of their models in this shape long before altra, topo, lems, or any other shoe company that now makes a low heel to toe drop wide toe box shoe. This is what I would call minimalist footwear before there was a term for it. The retro look of this shoe will never go out of fashion. Sadly, the midsole is so stiff and hard that they are simply too hard to wear. New Balance should replace the midsole with revlite in order to achieve a more wearable version of this shoe. They did it with the 696 re-engineered they should do it with the 501 as well or even the 574 as these are the best looking retros with a wide toe box.

Sadly, it appears that New Balance is going down hill in terms of quality and sizing consistency. I've been buying NB classics in 12 2E for years but the last few purchases have been problematic - they're no longer as wide as they used to be. In fact, this pair didn't fit at all - ultra-tight in the toe box area to the point that I could barely force my feet into them. Time to find a new brand.
Thanks to Zappos' excellent customer service, returns are easy.

Not sure what's going on with New Balance but I've found the selection and build quality has been seriously slipping over the past few years.
I've been buying NB classics for a decade at least and have seen the selection shrink in wide sizes. In addition, the "wide" is no longer as wide as it used to be. I found it next to impossible to even get my feet into this specific pair despite buying the same size/width each time. Very disappointing.

Looked nice, however, quickly started to rip on the inside heel area and lose padding. Definitely seems like the quality of New Balance is starting to diminish based on prior pairs lasting much longer.

This was my first pair of New Balances. I wanted something classic looking with comfort. I needed a solid pair of shoes to wear to work everyday as a graphic designer without going to the support-less Vans again and to not wear running shoes to work. These took about two days to break in, but have been a flawless choice so far. Clean and comfortable.

Very nice colors and style but not true to size. I bought my husband a 9.5 W his usual size. He can't even get his foot in them. They will be going back.

I have had these for about a year and think I'm done buying these. When I first got them they looks wore already. The stitching and the glue of the shoe was poor. They were all royal blue and I loved the color so I just rocked them. Over time they don't feel very supportive and feel very odd. Maybe the way I walk but I won't be getting these shoes again.

I have another pair of New Balance shoes I use that are the same size as these and those are much more comfortable because they are a bit looser. These shoes feel skin tight, they are so uncomfortable. They didn't have a wider width so I couldn't get a better fitting one, seeing as how these are already a size bigger than my usual size I can't just order a bigger size because then my foot would be flopping out the back. If you have wide feet seriously reconsider another shoe, or at least find them in a store so you can try them on.

I was not impressed when received. I got the wide shoe model and although width was good, the shoes felt to be a good length but the heel would not catch. It felt like I was wearing sandals. I returned them.

I have other 501's but these fit nowhere near as well as my others. Not sure why that would be, but its true. They feel narrow, and tight across the laces. I thought maybe they just needed to break in a little (since I had other 501s in exactly the same size) so I kept them, but now I wish I wouldn't have. They haven't broken in, and now I've worn them too much to return them. Ugh.
