Really good-looking shoe / boot. And quite well-built. Fit was a bit problematic. I'm a plain-vanilla size 8, and I typically have no issues with fit. In fact, I reviewed earlier Oboz as the best footwear I've ever had, and straight out of the box. These, however, run a little bit small, and noticeably narrow from the middle of the foot back to the heel. They will no doubt stretch and fit over time, but I certainly didn't get the "perfect out of the box," fit that I'm used to from Oboz.

FOLLOW-UP REVIEW These won out over the Oboz Bridger BDRY and Sawtooth. All are great, except the Firebrand is a little more versatile. I had these three for about a month and periodically tested them out in my home. It was hard to choose really. If you want a high top, go with the Bridger BDRY. If not, Firebrand is fantastic. Also, the Firebrand is a touch more solid than the Sawtooth, but that one is great also. I like the style of the Firebrand over Sawtooth however. Due to the GREAT return policy of Zappos, I would saw try all three at once: compare and contrast them. I actually took the step of putting one style on one foot, and the other on the other foot. Then I switched and intermingled them. The Firebrand kept coming out on top. I did that over and over again for at least a month in my home. It would be hard to argue any one of these are better than the other, but the Firebrand worked for me. I tried about 20 other brands of hikers, and Oboz came out on top every time. They are great shoes and should last many years. I am really happy with the Firebrand.

Great shoe! Outstanding quality and comfort right out of the box. I was very disappointed with the last pair of Merrells and Keens I purchased. I’m very happy I tried this brand. You can tell they are made with care. I put them on and immediately went for a four mile walk. They felt comfortable the entire way.

I did order a half size up and Glad that I did . I will primarily wear these in the winter and got the half size up to allow for thicker socks . The red in the picture is more of an earth tone rust . Very comfortable walking around , like walking on pillows . Good construction and a handsome shoe overall .

By far the best hiking shoe I have ever purchased. We just got back from hiking AZ and I looked forward to wearing these everyday. Great traction with and awesome sole. Didn't feel every little rock poking through like with my Merrill's.The heel felt very stable as well.Oboz are my go to hiking shoe for now on!

I have a broad forefoot and a narrow heel. The Firebrands are really comfortable, with a high and wider toe box and a snug mid foot. I am, however, sending them back because the tongue is stiff and it irritates the front of my ankle. Another style, the Oboz Sawtooth, has a softer and shorter tongue. For me, that is a better choice. For my foot shape, the Oboz is a better fit than Merrill which feels boxy after trying on Oboz.

This is my second pair. I worn the first pair out hiking in the Alps and later as a yard work show. One of the best trail (for hiking, not running) I've ever had. Great support and quality construction. Built to last.

absolutely no complaints as to the shoe. what I don't understand is why they can't have a shoelace that doesn't come undone, all the time. figure that out and it is a perfect shoe. i actually wear mine, pretty much, for everything. i even play sports in the them. can't beat the shoe. work on the shoelaces, please.

I have been a longtime Keen and Merrell fan. Right out of the box, these feel more durable than both, but they are still super comfortable. The toe box is not quite as roomy as my Keens, but I think some minimal break in time will fix that. If they made an all black Firebrand boot for duty wear, I would place an order right now. This will be my first of many Oboz purchases if they hold up like I expect them to.

This is my 3rd pair of Oboz and they never disappoint. This is an all around sneaker. I use them for hiking, work, and around town. All weather use!

This is an extremely solid outdoor shoe overall. It has great support all around, and it feels extremely well made. I expect it to last a long time. Very thick bottoms makes it feel like it will take a while to fully break in, but it feels like it will be worth it. I have been comparing this to a few other Oboz hikers that I have at home and are testing out. So far, the firebrand is the low top that is winning. I highly recommend trying it if you want a low top hiker.

Exceptional. Best low trail shoes I've ever worn in 35 years. And very well made. 6 months in with 5 days a week wear...and there holding up well. Very impressed. I understand Oboz was started by a longtime Merrill bookmaker. This is clearly a much better shoe than Merrill, from fit and support to construction and materials.

I've always loved Merrell hiking shoes and have never found a better fitting hiker, but they haven't really kept up with the latest styles so I wanted to try something new. These are my first pair of Oboz, and they do look great and fit good. They get a lot of style points as I think they're one of the best looking low hikers on the market today. The fit is solid and the materials feels like high quality. I've only worn them a few times and while they do fit well there is a thick fold of fabric connecting the tongue of the shoe to the upper . This is clearly to help keep water out of the shoe, but its thick and it rubs a little. Its been a minor issue, but worth mentioning. I'll have to get these out for a long walk and see how they wear. hopefully, it won't be an issue.

Really liked the look of the shoe. Very uncomfortable to my instep. Thought they would loosen and/or break-in but no such luck. Reminded me of old leather hiking boots that took 6 months to break in. Wish they had worked out.

I've worn these shoes a dozen times and they still feel very stiff and uncomfortable, almost like walking with concrete blocks strapped to my feet. I find my knees and ankles to be very sore after a day in these things. They are also extremely slippery on wet surfaces and I've almost bit the dust several times. This is a big deal for me because I wear them mainly in wet conditions. These shoes feel like a no-name budget brand that should be a third of the price.

When I got the shoes they were very stiff. I tried hard to work them in, but my feet would get sore after wearing them for a couple of hours. I recently took them on a moderate hike and ended up with a stress fracture on my left foot as a result of these shoes. I also found them to be very slippery on wet surfaces. I've done lots of long hikes in other shoes no problem, but my feet started hurting after only an hour with these shoes. I am throwing them in the garbage.

Perfect for me, they make me want to move, great feel. And I have put hundreds of miles on them through tough rocky terrain in Utah to wet steep trails in the Pacific Northwest. I bought a second pair.

Of the current options for Oboz hiking shoes, this model comes closest to having the traditional Oboz fit.

Great fit. First got a 9.5. Too small Then noticed in the chart that Oboz European size for a 43 is a ten so sent back and got these. Similar style but like them even better and the fit is perfect. Wearing them daily to break in and look forward to hiking in fall on medium difficulty trails. I am 76 and need a bit of core work but historically a good trekker. Thanks

This is my 4th pair of Firebrand's and first in this color scheme. I cannot say enough good things about these shoes. For me, their foot bed, arch, support, durability, casual style and functionality are superb. I am also a fan of most KEEN shoes too for all of the same reasons. I wear my Firebrand's with shorts, long pants and for work and even casual client meetings. I'm very picky about shoes that support my body and especially my knees/back. I just had knee replacement surgery so having a stable foundation to walk or hike on is key. The Firebrands sole and support are as bio-mechanically engineered (as I could imagine) for all the potential activities one would pursue. Plus, the look pretty cool and are durable. You would be hard pressed to wear these out. I have all of my previous pairs and end up using them for other duties where they can get dirty or trashed...but the always clean up well. I'm at the point now where I am beginning to recycle shoes for homeless shelters with these shoes (since I am getting new fresh versions regularly after a year or so) and they still have plenty of life left in them.
I'd also recommend:
Keen and Hoka's are the main brands I wear now.
