I always order athletic shoes one half size larger than dress or casual shoes, so the shoes felt true to size by this standard. The shoes were comfortable, even with my bunions. They have good arch support, and are a good shoe overall. The shoe has a large tongue, which rubbed my ankle, which is the reason I am returning them.

These are so un-cushioned that I couldn't even make it out the door with them on. I've been having foot problems for a few months and it was painful standing in front of the sink and simply brushing my teeth with these on, and that was with ibuprofen running through my system! I don't know how they're possibly approved for diabetics...do they not have any feeling in their feet?

Great fit for my feet (altho the 576 was slightly better in the toebox - this one has felt a bit narrower) but they only last 3 months for me before the cushion wears out and I have to replace them.

They are great shoes for support and comfort. I have a pair I've worn for over five years; still good but soiled.
I wanted them in white but my daughter said they looked like clown shoes on my feet. Sent back.

I bought this product because I will be having bilateral knee surgery soon. I think the New Balance quality has deteriorated. There is not really sufficient room in the toe. The velcro closure does not cover itself when closed over so looks cheap and sloppy. Before this purchase I bought a lace-up pair of their sneakers instore; cost was twice as much and very uncomfortable. Assembled in the USA does not mean Made in the USA.

Very wide through the toe area. Also very long in the toe area. Will try ordering smaller size.

The 577 (and earlier, similar NB models) has been my go-to shoe for years; I've always especially appreciated the roomy toe-box. As my feet get older and crankier, though, this model is sadly no longer comfortable. The insole feels hard, the sides stiff, and the toe-grips molded into the insole are painful rather than helpful. I've switched to a FuelCore Nergize model that cushions and accommodates my cranky feet in the ways they now demand. The 577 remains, in my opinion, a good shoe for active, hardy walkers.

Thought I needed wide sneakers but thankfully, I didn't. Did not like the look of this shoe...for box was too round and wide.

Every pair of this style shoe I have purchased in the last few years has had the strap too short. I just purchased a new pair in a 2E hoping that they would be better. But of course they were not longer or better. I have a wide foot and it is very hard to get the strap to stay on the valcro.

Good shoe for a great price. I ordered the extra wide because I have flat feet with bunions. Unfortunately I had to send them back because they were too narrow in the toe box. I am all done buying shoes and keeping them in the hopes they will stretch and feel better. That is the great part about Zappo's.

the tongue is shorter than the holes for the laces on this walking shoe. .if one uses all the lace holes, then the tied laces will rub against the ankle and not rest on the tongue. I sent photos and asked why. Customer Service declined to anwser my question or respond to the photo. (I was offeref a free return.) The shoe is a bit bulky but I am guessing that if I didn't need to lease it up completely, it would serve it's purpose. However I have a really narrow foot and so I do need that extra tightness around my ankle. Can't figure out how to lace it will so it will be snug but not rub against my ankle.

I was looking for a plain white shoe to wear at work. I am on my feet on a hard surface for much of the day. While the arch support is OK on these shoes, the ball of foot area has the thinnest padding of any New Balance shoe I have had (and I've had quite a few.) It was OK for the first couple of months, but over time, the material must compress. I finally had to put in extra insoles to pad that area so that the ball of my foot wouldn't be sore at the end of the day. If it weren't for that one issue, I probably would have rated this shoe a four overall. But it was an easy enough fix with adding extra padding.

Fit and size were fine, BUT the vinyl or leather like material that the tongue was made of was far too stiff. After wearing them around my house for a couple of hours I had an indentation in my ankle where the tongue touched it. After removing the shoes that dark red mark was there for a while after.
Also, regarding appearance, as my millennial daughter out it, they were just too white. She says total white is for real senior citizens, not those of us just breaking 60. I usually get New Balance with a but of color, e.g. some teal, and she claims that little bit of color makes all the difference. So I’ve ordered a new style with a bit of color and a more flexible tongue.

I bought these to fit a special in-shoe brace for my foot and lower leg. Good news is the shoe is deep enough to accommodate the brace. Bad news is it is hardly a fashion statement.

I ordered these for my Mom. The tongue came up too high on her foot and because it was leather, it was stiff and uncomfortable. I returned them, thanks to Zappos excellent return policy.

Nothing will ever take the place of the old New Balance 811, and shame on NB for no longer producing them. I know from countless messages boards that they were a very popular shoe. This one is ok. My foot dr commented about how heavy they are. They are indeed heavy. I do well with them. I have wide feet, high arch, very high instep. These are just a tad snug when worn with a sock. I try to catch them on sale. I’d sure miss the old 811.

The toe box is wonderfully wide. Unfortunately, I had to return the shoe because of the tongue. It is very nicely padded, but the way it is attached inside, it is very think and takes up a lot of room. It is pressing on my foot, even with the laces all undone.

I have always loved New Balance, however this pair is very stiff, uncomfortable and does not fit like my many others.
I'd also recommend:

These are comfortable enough generally, but the tongue is very hard and inflexible so hits against my fore-ankle painfully and there is no way to keep it from doing that. Otherwise, they are plenty roomy for arthritic feet but not so attractive. I returned them and bought Saucony Progrid Integrity ST2 instead, which are like heaven to walk in.
I'd also recommend:

I ordered a pair of New Balance #577 which has Velcro Straps instead of laces due to my wife's Arthritic hands. The first pair came and when she put them on the straps did not make contact to secure the hook & loops they were short by 2+ inches. So we returned them and ordered another pair. When the 2nd pair arrived the same problem with the straps being to short. So we returned them also and gave up, will look at local stores for a substitute shoes.
