Surprisingly comfy. I've been wearing them with my skinny jeans folded over and tucked inside, and they bring just the right amount of edge to an otherwise boring black t-shirt and jeans. I only lace them halfway up so they gain a little extra shape (and fit over my pants). They're also cute with big socks and bare legs/tights. I just wish the sole had a teensy bit of tread.

Great boot. I like that the laces are fully functional, and it zips too. You can lace it halfway, and cinch it around the ankle, and let the very generous tongue open up. The only drawback is that the sole is not too thick, and I think I will have to add a rubber scuff or else it will wear down too quickly.

So previously purchase this same boot in brown but a size 8 and they are at least one size bigger and because they are bigger they have become quite ugly so when I purchase them in black I thought to buy a 7.5. Well they are too small for me and unfortunately I wore them and can't send them back. I also purchased these same boots like 5 years ago in brown and had to go up to a size 9 because they were to small in my regular size of 7.5. I guess it depends on the year and color in connection to their sizes.

Fit and size were spot on, and the boot was exactly what I was looking for. Gave only 3 stars because they wore out very quickly, soles are already falling apart and the finish on the leather comes off with the lightest scrapes.

I purchased these boots recently because they looked very cute online. I got them in the brown leather, and I was really pleased with how they looked in person. However, when I put the shoes on, they did not live up to my expectations. First, the footbed is very flat, hard, and cheaply made. These are not good shoes to buy if you do not have flat feet. I put a cushion insert in and that helped a lot. However, the second problem is that the heel cup is so hard and stiff that it rubs on the back of your heel when you try to walk, even if you are wearing thick socks. I would think that boots that looked so nice on the outside would be just as nice on the inside, or at least have a little padding around the heel. I will have to take these boots back because they are uncomfortable.

I ordered a size 8.5. The box said it was 8.5. The actual boot was a size 9.5, clearly marked. Obviously just a mistake, but very frustrating. Free shipping is great, but it's still a long process to get the return label and ship the wrong boots back.

I got these boots and ended up returning them because I just really didn't care for the style. I bought them picturing them to be a little bit more like military boots, but they were too little house on the prairie for me. They were comfortable, but it was just that style on me didn't work out. Zappos offers great customer service and returned them without a problem!

I hate to be the dissenting review, but I was very disappointed with these boots. The ankle shaft was very large and cinching in the laces did not help. I had on pretty thick socks as well. Plus the leather was not as good of a quality I had hoped.

These boots look way different in person. I ordered them hoping for "military" style boots but instead they are a very narrow "Victorian" style. They look horrible with bootcut jeans and my skinny jeans looked even worse! I was so excited from the way these looked in their pictures but they are going back tomorrow. I should note that I wear a size 10 and they fit true to their size. I asked 5 different people for their opinions and they all agreed that they don't work. 2 people also think they look like they will fall apart after a few months of wear. At least Zappos is awesome!

I have been wanting boots in this design but without the side zipper. This detailing drove my nuts, either lace them or zip them I was ranting about. But I could not find any that would meet those needs, so I ordered the Troopa by Steve Madden. I did not care for the zipper, hence me looking for a different design for over a year, and I did not care for the quality of leather that was used either. These are just not a great match for me, and they ran quite narrower than what I am comfortable with.

These boots are sooo cute! But let me warn you, the heel fell off after the first time I wore them! What a bunch of shoddy craftsmanship. Now I have to spend extra money to get it fixed. So I'm rating these a 3 because of cuteness, yet kind of not worth the money. Oh well.

Style wise - the boots are incredible; love them! Comfort wise - the boots are terrible; hate them. If you're looking for great combat boots that combine both, keep looking!

I have a an odd foot, both narrow and very flat. These fit me pretty well and were comfortable. They definitely broke in after about a week. But also after a week the heel looked like I had been walking in them for a year. I had to spend more money to add rubber soles to the heal and the front of the boot.

This is a super cute boot and it's even better in person. It's really comfortable and the leather is fairly nice. As some other reviewers mentioned, these boots don't offer much padding/arch support. I walk a fair amount in the city, so I'm considering buying some inserts for them. I am a bit disappointed, however, because after two days of wearing them, the bottom part of the rubber heel just fell off! I'm taking them to get repaired, but it still irks me that I paid so much for a pair of shoes that fell apart after 2 wears! That's just not cool. That sort of workmanship is more on par with a store in the mall or a bigger retail chain store, not with a pair of shoes that cost me this much! In the future, I will think twice about buying Steve Madden boots and will just spring for a pair Frye's or Cole Haan, as they don't require repair bills after 2 wears and will last (almost) forever.

The heel is highly slick and slippery, and very scary to walk in. I could not walk with a confident stride in these; I was too afraid of slipping! I tried them on in my house, took a step, and almost did the splits on my carpet. Plus, one of the heels was glued on crooked, so the quality was very off. I sent these back after trying them on for 5 minutes. If you want a solid combat boot you can have a comfortable, confident walk in, I highly recommend Two Lips Liberty.

Where I live, these could not possibly be worn in the winter, because the bottom is as smooth as the ice you would be slipping on. So disappointing! But I have to echo the many previous reviews who said this boot is adorable. It's fabulously cute and comfortable (but there is no arch support). I have small ankles and calves and narrow feet and these fit perfectly. I would love to find these same boots that could withstand ice!

My foot is between a 7.5 and 8. I ordered it in a 7.5 and it fit length-wise, but was way too tight at the toe-bone area. They looked good and they weren't too heavy. I would get the larger size if I didn't know that they would be too long for my foot.

Gorgeous boot for everyday wear but they only last about a year before the boot skin starts to peel and the heel cracks. A super stylish boot that pairs well with everything but you will need to either buy these again in a year or select a higher quality boot that will last.

My last pair of Steve Madden Troopa boots, from a year or so ago, are so fabulous, I ordered this pair in another color. Unfortunately the quality and construction have gone WAY down. The sizing is erratic, the workmanship is crude and sloppy, and they redesigned the tongue, which used to be neatly secured in the front. I sent for two sizes and ultimately sent both back - the quality was too poor, and while 8 1/2 was almost too tight to put on, the 9 was miles too big. RIP my favorite boots!

Seriously the best boots, but the soles of the shoes are horrid! Like many others have said, my soles came apart and after that it just went downhill. I absolutely love the style of the boot and received many compliments while wearing them, but I wish the bottoms were a bit more sturdy.

These boots just looked shabby coming out of the box. I was looking for a casual boot, however these just looked like they were low quality so I returned these. The material seemed very cheap too. They were a bit on the small side as well.

I have been looking for a combat boot for a while. I came across the Troopa by Steve Madden, so disappointed with this boot. It looks fake and as if where made of plastic. It cost me a lot and should be made of a better quality, but its not. I love boots and have many styles, I wear them with skinny jeans and tights. I'm a student and I don't have much money, so spending this amount was a big deal for me. I will be returning them for a refund and wait to purchase a better boot, that does not look as if it was made from cheap materials. I might spend a little more, but my experience with more expensive shoes is that they tend to last longer. I have a pair of Frye boot I received as a gift 5 years ago and I still get compliments, they have held up nicely too.

Cute boots and the Cognac Leather looks just like the picture, but the zipper on one of the boots keeps opening itself at the bottom. Wore once and had to fix the zipper 4 times. Returning them.

I bought these for my wife and she loved them. The style was perfect and they fit perfectly. However the soles split in the forefoot of both boots after about 3 months. I can not recommend these boots.
