These boots are for fashion. If you want to hike or do any serious work with them, they are not for you. They are leather and you are not going to find many leather boots for less than the price.

I love the shoe, but there are 2 issues that lowered my rating. When I got them, they had an extremely strong smell, I think from the finishing. I have put them outside on the sun to air and been spraying the inside of the shoe with lavender. After 4 weeks it is better but you still smell it. And the inside of the tongue is roughing up my knit pants.

Bought these boots thinking I was getting another color than the one that arrived. Sort of saddened me; however, very comfy and will keep them. True to size. I'm a 5 1/2. Thought I was getting green ones but there actually a grayish. Oh well. Like I said, a keeper.

These boots are so cute! I wear a 7.5 and felt true to size but the leather is a bit stiff and really rubbed my ankles while just trying on and wearing around the house. Worth a try but they hurt my ankle too bad to wear. Being real leather they may break in.

If you are looking for comfortable boots that will go the distance, these are not the ones! The leather is incredibly stiff and unyielding, and the soles have little to no padding. The top of the shaft is also very stiff, and irritates the calf of my leg. The toebox is fairly narrow for those with a wide foot, and the leather has almost no give at all, so no expansion or "breaking in," and forget about wearing anything but tights or dress socks underneath - this sort of sucks if you are planning to wear these in colder weather. I got the black ones, as I felt the veneer or finish or whatever it is called on some of the other colors was a bit tacky. They are a good looking pair of boots, but simply not worth the price, given their lack of comfort and the bad fit - I think if the leather was a little finer quality, and a little softer, the fit would be better. I wore them once or twice, and decided that, as they are sturdy, I will keep them to wear when mowing the lawn or working in the garden.

Saw these at the store today and HAD to have them. They are stunningly beautiful in the green and purple. A lovely spring color for Seattle, where, thanks to the climate, I can wear boots just about year round. The leather is soft and they run a little large. Sales associate said he'd found that customers were telling him that these run a little large. There is absolutely no support or cushioning whatsoever in these shoes, (which has been my problem in the past with Maddens) so expect to need some kind of insole. Once I put an insole in they were just right. I normally take a 9 in all kinds of brands, and a 40 in Dansko/Sanita and a 9 or 9.5 in most Fluevogs. The 9 in these felt loose until I put in the insole.

Love the color (stone) and the style but they are just too narrow and have no support so had to send them back

This is my daughter's third pair of these Steve Madden Troopa boots. She loves them. However, they do not last very long if you wear them frequently...bottom sole cracks easily.

These boots are not comfortable and they scuff very easily. Within a week of wearing them, the toes got totally scuffed up. They already look old. Would not recommend.

I bought these boots 2 years ago, and have loved them to their death. I love the style, and love how they look when they get a bit aged, but am really disappointed in their durability. I had to get new heels after about 9 months of use, and since then, I've worn the new heels down past the point of repair. Also, the leather has actually broken towards the bottom of the shoe, so I can't wear them in any type of wet weather without getting my feet wet. Unfortunately, though, I can't find any boots that have the same feel and look as the troopa, so I'm still being a trooper and wearing them until they completely fall apart.

I am usually an 8.5 in steve madden shoes. I ordered these and when i tried them on they were very tight in the foot area and very uncomfortable on the heel however they were also too long and were more like a 9 than an 8.5 in length. I would not recommend these.

This is my third pair in two years. I love them. I wanted different colors. All three pairs are still holding up. I traveled (walked and walked) all through Europe in the summer with these. I always received many compliments everywhere I went. However, the leather is not great quality. It is just ok. But the comfort is top notch. I noticed the soles are now rubber as opposed to wooden as before. I wear an 8. My feet are narrow. They have a lovely fit.

Not good for skinny legs despite the laces, and cut funny. I do not understand how everyone rates these 5 stars, especially with the soles cracking. For me, I can't go out of this price range right now so I took a chance. They are just okay. I wish I had returned them and kept looking; however, I had already worn them out and scuffed up the bottoms so couldn't return. I have very narrow legs, ankles, heel, and pretty narrow foot in general. The toe box of this boot is quite narrow. I ordered my usual size and doubt I will be able to wear thick socks with these unless they stretch. And though narrow on the toes, they are too loose on the leg/ankle even laced up as tight as they will go. There is about an inch and a half gap between my leg and the shoe. This doesn't look too bad with dresses, but skinny jeans would have to be tucked in (a look I'm personally not into) or the boot makes a bulge from under your jeans. The boots also run long. I wish I had ordered a half size down. I tried on the Steve Madden boot with the blue zipper down the back in a store today (forgot name, sorry), and though they are not real leather, the fit was better -- tightened close to my leg. If you've got very thin legs, go for those instead. I also wish the toe was a little rounder -- the very narrow toe makes these look more delicate and less tough.

I wanted to love this, and the look is very good, but the soles are very hard and stiff and not comfortable - and look like they wouldn't wear well. This one's going back.

I did lots of research online about these boots and they seemed like the perfect choice -- I was looking for basic military style boots. However, I was disappointed by the quality; they look cheap and like plastic. I've bought plenty of Steve Madden boots before and they always look fine in terms of quality, but these don't. Think about it before ordering!

They're cute, for sure. Mine fell apart in two weeks of wear! The thin rubber cover of one heel fell off, exposing the paperboard heel. And this dissolved in a couple days. Maybe it's the wet spring, but I haven't done any puddle-jumping. I'm returning these.

I saw these on someone on Instagram and they looked so chic. Well, it must have been a filtered pic because these are super cheap looking in person. The material looks like something you would buy from a generic KMart brand for $15. Save your $ and find something similar in a different brand. Yes, they are truly that bad. Shame, Steve Madden!

This review may be confusing. I wear a size 10.5 M. I had to order an 11 because the 10.5 was way too narrow and there was no room in the toe box. . So, I ordered a size 11 W. The 11 is sloppy with medium-weight socks. They also make the calves too wide. The leather is too stiff for my comfort but I'm sure it would soften eventually. The color is very attractive and exactly as pictured. I wish they fit better because the style, heel, and shaft height are perfect. I'll be returning these.

I order a 8.5 and 9 in both troopas and troopa 2s bc I wanted one of each but differnt colors. The 9s were entirely too big and the 8.5 too small. None of them fit right. So frustrating. I compared the sizes and they're NOT a half size difference but a whole size more like it. I even measured them and the sizing didn't match up at all. I found better ones from differnt brands.

Love the style but the 8.5 (my regular size) was much too short, the width was good, and a 9 was huge and much too wide, so I had to return them. Still searching for a mid -height lace/zipper boot.

Meh, the material was stiff and felt like it would deteriorate pretty quickly. It was narrower than I needed in the toe box, while feeling uncomfortably loose everywhere else. I really wanted to like these but they felt and looked cheap. This may be a weird comment, but I also found the pointed shape of the toe visually unappealing.

I was thrilled to find these in wide. The first time I wore them, I noticed the leather was wearing on the inside of each boot. The second time I wore them, the left heel felt off- like it was sinking lower when I walked. Then I noticed a squeaking sound. I checked and saw that the leather was pulling away from the sole. I am very disappointed in the quality of these boots. My payless version of them that I got for $30 three years ago have held up much, much better. I am returning these boots.

I returned these shoes because they looked very cheap. The soles were thin and the stitching was uneven. I'd rather spend a little more for a quality combat boot.

Bought these as a gift for my granddaught’s Birthday, unfortunately she didN’t get to try them on for comfort and support. The boots had a super strong chemical smell to them,it was so toxic I had no choice but to return them.
