I bought these shoes to replace the Air Monarchs I wore because my old ones were beat up. The shipping was quick. Only problem is I had to break the shoe on my left foot in for some reason. After a couple of months of wear they are perfect. I'm considering an all-black pair to match my work clothes.

I've been wearing Air Monarchs for years. Nike shoes just seem to fit my arches well and Air Monarchs are one of the few shoes Nike produces in a width that works for me. They are durable and VERY comfortable. My only complaint is that gosh-awful squeak they develop shortly after breaking in. I've had not a single pair that didn't squeak. That's the only thing keeping me from offering a five star rating. If you can tolerate that, and I've chosen to, these are fine shoes.

I bought these shoes for my friend from Afghanistan because he wanted all black shoes. They arrived in a timely manner, but he didnt like them because they were too wide. But they are probably perfect for someone who wants a wide base.

I purchased the previous version of this shoe (the Air Monarch III) about a year ago here on Zappos for casual wear and to wear at work. What appealed to me were the price, the all black color, and especially the extra wide 4E option necessary for my Hobbitesque feet. And for the first few months, I basked in my discovery as I couldn't get over how I'd finally found a shoe which fit my feet so perfectly and comfortably. But of course there had to be a catch, and this one arrived in the form a very loud squeak. It's much less noticeable on carpet, but most of my workplace isn't carpet, and I've already endured jokes from a few of my more perceptive co-workers. But then I noticed Nike released this new version, and I thought it might be to fix the squeak, so I gave it a try. But as it turns out, it apparently wasn't, because again the same squeak has appeared with the new Monarch IV's, again after a few months of wear. Being this is essentially my second pair, I'm curious why I'm not seeing this complaint more often in the reviews. Can my luck really be that bad? Or is it just because most of the reviews have been posted in the time prior to when the problem occurs? At any rate, the upside is the IV's are equally as comfortable as the III's were - albeit equally as noisy, and they're probably fine for outdoor use where other miscellaneous sounds will dominate the one generated by the shoe. Whatever you do, just don't wear them to the the library, philharmonic, or a burglary.

Size 14 4E. Fit well and are comfortable. Shoes have developed a squeak. I usually wear New Balance of the same size. I will buy again.

These shoes are comfortable and look nice.two things though after working all day my pinky toe feels cramped .I ordered a half size bigger might try a wider width next time.Second they do creak,think it has something to do with the round cutout on the sole.but overall there pretty good.

This style replaced a discontinued style (name escapes me now) that fit my feet great. I'm happy with the fit. However, as others have pointed out, they squeaked, after a few days. The previous style didn't. I'm thinking the problem is with different material(s) in the sole and inside of the uppers. The squeaking started after 4 days of wear. The noise went away after some baby powder. So if you can put up with baby powder in your socks for a few days, they work.

Getting a lot of compliments on the look of these sneakers. Bought them primarily because I do a lot of walking, and so far they are very comfortable. My only issue is that they are creaky-sounding sneakers, which I hope will diminish as they wear in. The soles are particularly noisy when wet, also.

Nice shoes! Insole offers a ton of cushy comfort and give - a very soft footbed - more so than any other shoe I've worn. Haven't had any issues yet with "squeaks", but am not particularly concerned with that, since a bit of foot powder or cornstarch will surely fix it, if it happens. The insole apparently can't be removed, which means I don't have room to use my orthotic insoles. The insole felt glued down when I started tugging at it, and I was concerned that it might somehow be integrated as part of some air chamber. I tried wearing the orthotic with the insole in place, but it resulted in my toes hitting the front of the shoe and was uncomfortable because of this contact with the shoe. One final note - the sole of the shoe, when viewed from the side, it pretty thick. I think it looks a bit odd - kind of like some platform shoe from the 1970s or something. It doesn't really bother me that much, but it's just a bit odd - perhaps due to that air chamber, which is what perhaps makes this shoe so comfortable.

Well like everyone else said, they squeak, and it started after a few days of wearing them. I am going to see if I can live with the noise, it is loud, not bad when walking on carpet, but who gets to walk on carpet everyday with a shoe that was meant to be used with activity generally outdoors. They are very comfortable shoes, and I did write to Nike about this. Here is their reply " Response Via Email (Bruce) 10:10 AM Hi Craig, Thank you for writing Nike. It's great to hear you have a pair of Monarchs and I am sorry they squeak. Do you have any baby powder? I know it is a weird question, but baby powder might help stop the squeaking. If you do, try taking out the insole and pour some powder inside. Make sure you move the powder all around the inside, before you pour it back out. Put the insole back in and the squeaking should stop. If the squeaking doesn't stop and you feel this is a material or manufacturing flaw, we have a claim process that can help. Checking with the retailer can often times result in getting you back into a new pair of Nike’s much sooner than returning them directly to us. If the retailer is unable to assist, we have a backup process in place that can. We cover our footwear against potential workmanship or manufacturing flaws for up to two years from the date of manufacture. You can find this date printed on the tag on the inside of the shoe just above the barcode." I will send them back before I try the powder cause I think that is just masking the problem Nike has, if they keep getting enough sent back I would hope they correct this defect.

The shoes are stylish. The only problem I have is that squeak on many surfaces. Hope that goes away. Comfortable, and roomy though.

I've worn Monarch's for around two years now and yes this last style is hit and miss with the squeaking noise, but it can be fixed just watch the videos on Youtube and no problem. Should a new pair of shoes need this kind of treatment? No, but I have yet to find another shoe as comfortable for wearing all day. I've put Zappos through hell trying everything under the sun with what others claimed as "all day comfort shoes" even Brooks Beast, Addiction walkers, Sketchers work etc... I'm talking al least 5 pairs of shoes tried and returned. (THANK YOU SO MUCH ZAPPOS FOR YOUR GREAT SERVICE AND RETURN POLICY) But alas, I'm right back where I started with the Monarch and I truly hope they never stop making this shoe I have no idea what I'll do! Thank you again Zappos for dealing with me and my picky feet, you have a customer for life who is very grateful for your help and understanding.

These are good shoes for the gym but if you want these for work I recommend you be in an office. I work on concrete floors walking from hangar to hangar in the aerospace industry and in three weeks I was feeling the aches on the heels.

I love these shoes for comfort. They wear like iron. However they squeak all the time. I have had five pairs over the years and they all will start to squeak. Even when they change the design it does not stop the noise. Nile plays dumb if you contact them. For me I am on my feet a lot at work and these are the most comfortable that I can find. The noise does become annoying. You would think that Nike would figure out how to stop the squeaking.

I bought these shoes twice. They are nice when you need plain black shoes. Comfort is there but are a little tight, so I recommend a wider size than normal. Also, the padding is good for comfort but make sure to keep them cleaned sprayed inside for they tend to absorb odors.

I use the shoe for football officiating and it does a great job of keeping me comfortable and letting me move. Also, they really helped in dealing with my back pain that I experience from running on uneven football fields. However the insoles seem to be a little too small for the shoe (I got a EE wide shoe) and it feels a little weird on my feet but I'm over it. From a style perspective I look like an old man, but hey, I can walk the next day so my back and I are cool with them.

To stop the squeaking...the WD-40 trick really does work! Pull out the glued in insole out...spray the inside generously with WD-40 and blot out with paper towel...put insoles back in and the squeaking will be gone. Never had to do it again but once. I know we should not have to do this to new shoes and Nike won't fix this known problem with these shoes but...they are so comfortable, it is worth the trouble.

Florida is filled with seniors who appreciate this shoe! The availability of a variety of widths is ideal, many people have orthotics or foot surgeries that need a wider foot and toe box. I have these shoes in every color, but the squeak is consistent in old and new pairs. THANK YOU to the person who said to eliminate the squeaks by putting talcum in all over the inside and move quickly about to spread the talcum powder around. No squeaks! It really works! I have these shoes in every color, great for walking the beach, walking on hard surfaces, and great ankle support if you tie them the new way!

Shoes fit my wide feet really well. Comfortable and a great value for the money.

I have bought several styles of shoe new balance, rock port, reebok, skeechers, you name it i tried them. I am a manager in retail and these are about the most comfortable pair os sneekers I ever bought. I was dissapointed at the life it's about 6 months every pair but well worth the comfort. And zappos had my shoes ou the next day and were at my house the day after that. They have won a new customer.

I've worn the Air Monarch for many years. I haven't been able to find a sneaker that is even close as far as comfort. As mentioned by others sometimes the shoe develops a very annoying squeak...anyone that finds a solution to this please let me know! This is the only complaint I have ever had about this shoe. Also, would love to know if there is a shoe without squeak that is as comfortable.

I have to say that these shoes are the best I have purchased they fit well and are very comfortable.

Everyone's feet are different, of course, but most Nike shoes seem to be tailor made for my feet. I have wide feet, so I order the shoes in 4EEE. These Nike shoes are comfortable but are also quiet even when walking on shiny, linoleum tiled floors, like most workplaces. I've had these for a few months now and they're still comfortable, but is squeaking a bit. Shoelaces do stay tied and not much wear so far.

A month after breaking them in they started squeaking whenever I step down. I've never had a pair of shoes do that before. I have found Nikes are a full size smaller than marked. I normally wear 8 but in Nikes I wear 9.
