I previously bought my wife the Merrell Artic Fox and she was very happy, but I decided to step it up a notch until she gets her drivers license and got her these whiteout 8. They are almost twice as warm as the Artic Fox and I get many hugs and kisses for my good deeds. She really like that they don't look to manly and are so comfortable for her 10 minute walk to work. You cant go wrong with these boots, North Face, Timberland, etc have nothing on these boots. You'll be surprised that no one ever told you about these boots before.

So far so good! I ordered these in anticipation of an active winter season, so let's hope we get lots of snow this year! I normally wear a size 7, but a size 7.5 in Merrells is best. Well, these 7.5s were a bit snug in the toe with my thick socks on, so I exchanged them for an 8 and they fit great. Zappos has a great return policy, so I'm never afraid to order shoes from them!

I love Merrell shoes and boots and was very excited to find this boot in my size. I also ordered the Merrell Snowbound Mid Waterproof to compare. I was shocked to feel the difference in sizing between the two boots, even though they were both from the same company. This boot runs very small - I would say a full size smaller. I wear a size 11 so I can't go up when I order and sadly I had to send it back, but I would definitely recommend going up a size. I don't know if it is the additional insulation - this boot has 400 grams of insulation and the Snowbound only has 200 grams - but it was not only tight but much shorter. The tip was squishing my toes. There was no way I could fit my foot, and I would want to wear heavy socks too. I ended up keeping the Merrell Snowbound - it was much larger - longer, very wide toe area and was actually roomy - I have no problem wearing heavy socks with it and am very happy. I just wanted to let people know - order up if you can for this boot, and if not, try the Snowbound. I am so glad I was able to order both because I would have expected them to be so different in sizing since both are Merrell - guess you can never tell!! Thanks Zappos for your easy returns!

These are good boots, just not right for me. First of all they don't have a lot of give in the toe box so I could feel my big toe touching the edge even though they were the right size. I compared them to the Merrell Decora Sonata and preferred the Decoras. They were much lighter, didn't look so much like work boots as these did. These also were very stiff in the ankle area so they weren't quite as comfortable as the Decoras for everyday wear just running errands and walking. They do seem very warm and clearly waterproof. I'd recommend for someone who needs are more rugged sturdy boot.

I just received this boot and found it to be snug even though I went up a half size from what I usually wear. I love how it looks, the support for the ankle and it is SUPER lightweight, but the toe area narrows a bit and I could feel the boot rubbing against the base and top of my big toe with just a medium weight sock on. Adding the wool socks that I would wear for outdoor winter weather, I felt I'd be sore while hiking in no time. I opted for the roomier Merrell Snowbound boot that felt much better with the socks I usually use. If buying the Whiteout, I'd think of going a full size bigger if you are putting on a thicker sock.

Really cute boots. I needed them for walking my dogs and getting through snow and puddles. I am a strict size 7 but I did order the 7.5 because of the toe part is short and rounded. I took my dogs out today and they were VERY comfortable, more than I thought they would be. I did walk through some puddles and my feet were dry, I do not know if I was standing in water if they would be water proof as they say. Made very well. Real keepers.

Moving to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I realized I needed my first pair of insulated boots. These boots are super warm (I actually can't wear them if it's 40+ degrees because my feet get too hot), and comfy. I do quite a bit of snowshoeing, and the back hook was extremely helpful. The first season I had them, I went through snow and slush without my feet getting wet. I did have to re-water proof them the second winter I had them, as my toes would be wet after wearing. Re-water proofing is pretty standard for boots, so I have no major complaints about that. The soles are awesome on ice. I have other boots that I've fallen in multiple times, but I've never fallen (even when walking out on solid ice) with these boots on. I really like the style of these boots as well. I am not a fan of weird fur and other "feminizing" bits on women's boots (reminds me of my mother's shoes). These are cute in a chunky sporty kind of way.

These were incredibly warm and well constructed. However, the ankle are was made of too firm of a material making it painful around the ankles when attempting to climb uphill or bend at the knee deeply. I felt like I was walking in ski boots. I sent them back.

These were great except that they were so stiff around the ankles at the top I'm returning them. Bummer they seem great quality and really warm with a great foot bed.
