Love these boots! I am a Merrell fan already but these performed great in my snow shoes and alone on walks in the snow! They run true to size for Merrell, always a half size up for me. They are very warm with regular socks. When snow shoeing I added toe warmers on the top of my feet and had plenty of room and my feet never get cold. Not clunky like you might expect, and also pretty lightweight for this much boot. Nice job, Merrell.

I absolutely love these boots. They are as lightweight as I was hoping and feel so comfortable. I walk 2-3 miles in Wisconsin weather almost daily so wanted something to keep me dry and warm. They have certainly done that.
I'd also recommend:
None, only Merrell's in both shoes and boots.

These are nice looking and seem well made. They are a little narrow in the toe-box for me, but I have bunions and Raynaud's syndrome, so I need a fairly wide toe. A previous review recommended ordering a half-size up. I usually wear a 9.5 in Merrell’s, and I ordered the 10, which is too long. I suspect the 9.5 would fit better. I am returning the boots, but I think they would work for most women.

These boots are very stiff, like ski boots. I had Merrel winterludes for the past 4 years and found them to be perfect for contending with my on going problems with tendinitis, they had a lot of support and stability and I could put orthodics in. The Whiteout boots are a bit taller and stiffer but I think they will work. I had to go up a half size, seems like shoes just keep getting smaller and narrower. I have had problems with Merrel's being to narrow across the ball of the foot, pinky toe area and some styles pinch there, so I am careful. These feel just a bit narrow in that area on my right foot. Glad Zappos has such an easy return policy, I ordered 2 pairs to make sure of the fit. I hope these boots are warm and comfortable because I am hiking or walking everyday in the winter.

This boot is the only one I have found that meets all my criteria for rugged, waterproof, well fitting, usuable for winter hiking and snowshoeing. I have a narrow (A) foot; nobody seems to make narrow boots. Theses are narrowest I have found. With an arch support, they fit well. I usually wear size 7, ordered 8, and they are just right with med-heavy socks. They are perfect for snowshoeing, with a ring at the front of the laces and a ridge for straps on the heel. The tread on the sole is good for hiking in light snow; the edge of the toe, although rounded, has good ridges to dig into snow. The heel is too rounded, however. These are very comfortable, like a good hiking boot. The only discomfort is from the stiffness of the top of the boot, rubbing against my leg. I'm hoping the leather will soften with use.

I normally wear a size 9 shoe, so I ordered up to a 9 1/2 boot. These boots are unbelievably short. If I had had an option for "Felt two sizes smaller than marked", I would have taken it. I also ordered the Merrell Isotherm Mid Waterproof in 9 1/2 and compared them sole to sole. The Whiteout was over an inch shorter than the Isotherm, and they are the same brand. I think this boot has a lot of potential, but the sizing is really off. Unfortunately, I've got to return the Whiteouts, and there aren't any available in the size I really need.

I'm returning these; very uncomfortable around the ankles, though these boots look good and are exceptionally easy to put on and take off.

Stiff sole and not much cushioning for the foot. Felt heavier than the Columbia Bugaboot that I also tried but lighter than the Sorel Caribou. Seemed more like a boot for more technical hikers and climbers.

These are a really great boot for winter - warm and waterproof. They look a little clunky, but are actually lightweight and easy to move in. Would highly recommend these.

I use Merrells to run in so it made since to me to purchase a good pair of Merrell hikers and I couldn't be happier. I wore them outside in the snow for about three hours and they kept my feet warm and dry. Did not have a problem with breaking in the shoe either, just slipped it on and went.

Great sturdy snow boots. Played in deep snow for hours with kids and they kept my feet warm and dry. Have also worn them on slushy days around town. They provide great traction on slippery days.

These boots are great. They do the job and they look cool. Provide comfort and style in heavy winter weather. Also they are really light for this kind of boot.

I searched for three months for a new pair of shoes for hiking and snowshoeing. This one finally came into my life and am I happy! Very comfortable. Extremely waterproof. Feet stay dry and have just the right amount of space to not rub or chafe. Highly recommended!

I ordered these for the upcoming winter cold season and I am so happy that I did! I read that they can run a little small, but I took the chance and bought my size and they are perfect! I do see what they say though, that if you have think socks, it is very snugly in there! Performance wise these shoes are awesome! They are a lot lighter than you think they are going to be, super comfortable to walk on and my feet are so warm in them, with normal socks. It is definitely worth the money if you want a great pair of winter boots!

I love my boots! Order half a size larger. I walk my dog and rescue dogs miles a day, so they have to be comfortable! They provide good support and comfort. They are worth the money.

I love these! I wear them everyday in the winter. They fit nicely and keep my feet very warm. I live and work outside where it's typical for a -40 below day. Traction is great on ice especially on a tarmac. Just getting ready to order a pair for my daughter.

Love these hiking boots! More style than one usually sees with a hiking boot, lightweight and very comfortable. I ordered 1/2 size larger as recommended by others and this worked out perfectly.

These are my favorite boots ever! I ordered them 1/2 size larger than I usually wear, and it was just right with a pair of thick wool socks. I do not recommend them for indoor wear, as they are super warm, but after a (very sweaty) week of breaking them in at work, I hiked up Mt. Monadnock in deep snow and they kept my feet from freezing. I tested them in slushy puddles and wore them in over two feet of snow during Nemo in Boston and I would say that they are definitely waterproof. I would recommend these for winter hikes and snow storms. They are bulky looking but very light. They sort of look like they belong on a Storm Trooper, which, as a SciFi nerd, I sort of like. My feet are wide and flat so if you have narrow feet and high arches, these might not be the boots for you. For me, they are perfect!

I bought this shoe for my wife. She's usually very picky about shoes and usually likes to buy from store after trying it on. When I bought this online for her, I was skeptical whether she would like it. She loved it and told me that this shoe is very comfortable and keeps feet worm. I love Merrell shoes and have few pairs and with Zappos free shipping and return you can't go wrong.

These definitely have very strong ankle support. I can see how some would have an issue with rubbing on the front of your ankle. However, it doesn't rub enough to bother me at all. I normally wear an 8, but ordered these in 9 and they fit perfect with thick socks. I will be taking these to Alaska for a cruise. We are planning on doing quite a bit of hiking. I think these boots will be perfect! I will update after my trip.

Received these boots today - very pleased and am looking forward to getting out tomorrow in the snow that is falling overnight tonight. So far have only worn briefly, but found them instantly comfortable as is usual for Merrell footwear. After reading quite a few reviews that consistently mentioned how short they are, I ordered an 8.5 although I ordinarily wear an 8 or even 7.5. I am glad I did, because they are not a bit too long. In fact I probably could have even gone to a 9 (which I ordinarily could not even keep on my foot in most shoes) if I needed to wear a heavy sock.

I love these shoes, don't wear any of my other snow boots now. These pack looks and function together. I get compliments all the time. They are easy to wipe clean and the color is great. Very comfy, keep your feet warm in the snow and provide good traction. I went half a size larger based on reviews and they are a little loose but they work. At least I have plenty of room for thick socks.

These boots are great! I struggled between these and the Columbia Snowtrek. I was looking for a boot to wear while snowshoeing but also winter hiking. Thank goodness for Zappos letting me order both and try them out! Both fit very well, I ordered both a full size up to fit nice thick, warm socks. The Columbia Snowtrek was just a bit big overall -- not size-wise but higher, wider overall look to it. At first I thought the Merrells would be too small for my purposes. But I went with them and after two winter hikes, I am thrilled. They are warm and snug. Totally dry. Nice grip. Comfort is great -- I do use a gel insert for arch support but I have high arches. Really wonderful boot for winter trekking -- and I have yet to stick them in my snowshoes!

Wanted a winter hiking boot for hiking/snowshoeing that felt like a hiking boot instead of a squishy marshmallow. Ordered my normal size first and they were a bit short even with thin socks, so I ordered a new pair a half size up. These are stable, warm and fantastic. I haven't been through a slushy deep puddle yet to know how waterproof they are. But, I've been on several winter/snowy hikes and they are great!
