I love Frye boots and own several pairs, all a size 7. I ordered the Melissa button in a 7 and I am swimming in it. Also, the leather does not seem as nice as the leather on the Veronica Slouch.

This boot looks like something from a John Wayne movie, that old and that rustic. If this is the look you want, this is the boot for you. Very broken-in look. (hence the style 5 stars.) They scratch up easy. The surface looks like it will flake off. I wore these boots around the house and scuffed up the bottom of the boot so they are my expensive boots to go to the barn in. Great boots for horse riding. I have a 7.5 foot and ordered the 8 and need to wear Smart Wool socks. These boots would look great with anything jean.

I've wanted to get a pair of Frye boots for a long time, but couldn't decide on which style. The classic look of these finally won me over, and I'm glad I took (the costly) plunge. The leather is extremely soft, inside and out, and the padded foot bed is extremely comfortable. I can see myself wearing these for many winters to come. The calf area is just the perfect amount of snug, they help hold pants down if I tuck them in, and I can still wear leggings, socks, tights, etc comfortably underneath. My number one warning to those considering buying these boots is that you are going to have to spend more money to get them resoled immediately. The leather bottoms are extremely slippery and the rubber heel part does nothing. If you aren't prepared to spend more on these boots, do not buy them. You can not wear them with the soles as is or you'll be slipping all over even if the surface is not wet or is rough. I'm not sure why Frye makes them with the leather soles; they get scratched up immediately, but it does nothing to help with traction. I also recommend buying the Frye cream to condition them. It works great on other leather shoes as well.

I took the advice of another reviewer and ordered a half size smaller. They fit! However, they were extremely hard to get on. I took the advice of another reviewer and put plastic baggies over my feet to pull the boot on. Once they are on, they are very comfortable. They were a little snug in the width. Recommend a wider size if you have wide feet. But, I just don\'t like the way they look. The toe is discolored to make it look worn. I don\'t like that. They are not very flattering on me. They don\'t have that slimming effect like my other boots. Maybe it\'s the v-shape top. For me to spend this much money, they would have to be perfect, so I am returning them.

These are beautiful and well made. I ordered the black, and ultimately returned them only because I thought they would look better in the burgundy color. They are great "equestrian" style boots. So if that's what you're looking for, then order these. Oh, and they were a bit too tall for my leg and went all the way up to my knee. I am 5'3".

I love the look of these boots. I was so excited when they came but very disappointed in how they fit. I have skinny legs and narrow feet and I had to struggle to get my foot in the boots!

This is a beautiful boot (I got the color Fawn, which is essentially medium brown with grayish and greenish undertones), but it is not comfortable for me. Length and width wise, it was true to size. However, I had a terrible time getting the boot on because I have a moderately high instep. I put a plastic bag over my foot and was able to get the boot on, then tear the bag away. The main fit problem occurred when I began walking. The heel is situated on the boot so that it puts pressure painfully and awkwardly on the bottom of my foot between the outside edge of my foot past the heel. I have never felt that issue before. I think that if I wore the boots, the heel may wear down and eventually be comfortable, but I am returning them. Too expensive not to have a perfect fit and be difficult to put on.

I have big feet (11) and what I would consider average calves. These boots were way too big for my legs, even with jeans tucked in. As for the style, I think it's just okay. I don't like how the shaft dips down on the front of the leg. I don't think it's flattering and made my legs a little more stumpy. I much prefer the Frye Chelsea for a sleek and classic look.

These are beautiful boots, but Frye has a serious quality control issue. I've bought and returned three pairs. The first had a big crease on the inside lining that would have caused a blister. The second pair had mismatched leather, one piece way darker than the other, and one boot was significantly wider than the other. The last pair has an obvious dye problem, with a lighter splotch on the side of the boot. I really wanted these, but I give up! Way too may problems for a pair of boots at this price.

I love the look of the Frye Melissa Button boots but I'm not thrilled with the fit. I ordered two sizes and kept the smaller of the two. After three wearings, the boots have stretched so much that they are almost impossible to wear. Very frustrating!

I love this boot but unfortunately I think that it has gotten so popular that the quality as gone down. I ordered the same boot 3 times. Zappos customer services is perfect! The boot however is not. Each time there were some serious defects with them. The first pair had bubbles inside the boot, so the leather was separating and had huge scratches. I did call Frye directly and they told me that the inside should not have any bubbles or air pockets. With the second pair, the nails on the bottom of the boot where sticking out and the leather on the inside was separating. I hoped the last pair I got would be the charm but not my luck. One boot was great. I wish the other was but the stitching on the inside pushed threw to the leather on the outside and made an impression all the way around the boot. The shaft looked like it had a half inch ring around it. Also one tab was sewn wrong so the leather was messed up. Hopefully Frye will look at their quality control and get back to making a quality product. I'm totally disappointed. I love these boots. For sizing, I am a true 7.5 and ordered a 7.5 and they fit great. I tried them with thin socks but if I wanted thicker socks they would have been way to snug. I ordered the black vintage soft leather.

Despite the rave reviews, I did not like this boot for the following reason: I thought the leather was cheap compared to my other Frye boots. The color tan was a bit too yellow for me. The style was cute and with effort I could get my feet in them, but overall I was disappointed in this style.

I'm surprised about all the rave reviews for these boots. I have two pairs of Fryes, one pair that I bought two years ago and one pair that I bought years before that, and these Melissas come nowhere near the quality of my other pairs. The leather is thin, the boots have no traction on the bottom, and the style isn't flattering. No way are these worth the money. I returned them immediately. I think Frye quality has suffered lately.

What a bummer. I read a review where someone had the same problem: one boot slipped on easily and I couldn’t even get my foot in the other. Very odd for Frye. And not that it really matters, but the boots came with all the stuffing out of them, and with someone else’s return slip in the box, so clearly they were returned, never inspected and sent immediately to me. Again, not the worst and the boots were in fine shape, but it just seemed sloppy on both Zappo’s and Frye’s part. I buy a lot of Frye boots and they have been amazing and durable but this purchase was definitely a bust. Back they go, and I hope this particular pair is shelved and not sent to someone expecting a great pair of matching, high-quality boots. (Rated highly for style, and for comfort only because the ONE boot that fit was great, and also I can’t submit this review without rating comfort.)

I bought these boots for my daughter for Christmas (December 2016) ... it is now February and they already have holes in both of the soles - unbelievealble for a Frye boot - am trying to find out how to take of this ...

i ordered these boots and i think the leather is high quality. however the sole did indeed wear out within the space of a year but they have a warranty and you can have it replaced so fine. but and this is why the get the two, i sent my boots back well over a month ago, and every time i call to find out where they are they give me a run around. the customer service is why i will never give frye another single red cent. giving people a run around when they're paying hundreds of dollars for shoes is shameful. furthermore putting a sole on a shoe that starts at over two hundred dollars is unconscionable.

This is the first time I have ever been disappointed with Zappos. And I'm really disappointed. My anxiously awaited new boots arrived today, only they weren't new. When I pulled them out of the box, it was obvious from the worn-in creases in the leather and the pockmarks in the soles that the boots had been previously worn ... a lot. To make matters worse, the soles had been covered up with black shoe polish which left black marks all over my beige tile floor when I tried them on. I understand someone trying them on and returning them (like I am doing), but the extent of the wear indicates that the boots were worn outside on more than one occasion - and then sold to me at full price as if they were new. That's why I'm disappointed, Zappos. I have no issue with the quality or workmanship - they're Frye boots. The condition in which I received them is very disappointing.

My second pair! Comfortable enough to wear all day, a lot to say coming from someone with major foot problems (multiple surgeries). I normally wear 7.5 in Frye boots but I wear a 6.5 in these. Big toe box, runs large.

I recently got this boot and its incredible. The quality of the leather is unmatched by any other boots I have. They are durable but not heavy when walking. These are so on trend now but will always be a staple boot - I rave about this boot to all my friends!

I bought a pair of these boots 2 years ago. I rotate through the winter with Frye 8" Harness and 12" Red Wing Engineers. Both are American made footwear that are built to last. I oil/condition my boots at least once a year. They love it. Can't wait till they are 20 years old with a supple patina.

These are beautiful boots but OUCH on the width. I've been looking for a pull on boot that's trim around the ankle and calf, and is a matte finish. Not easy. I own several other frye boots that are comfortable, but these seem very narrow in the toe box.

These boots run true to size. I wear 6 1/2-7 but tend to go for 7 with boots due to my larger calf size. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a 7 in the fatigue oiled suede (which I love). So I got the 6 1/2 & had the cobbler stretch the calf area. I can wear them with skinny jeans now & they will continue to stretch the more I wear them. I love the color and the classic look, free of zippers. I have pretty much been wearing them since I got them and find them quite comfortable. You just can't go wrong with Frye.
