Like others have said, the heating elements on the inside seem to go bad. I have burnt toast on one side, and almost frozen toast on the other. I wanted to love this toaster, but it just doesn't work well. I expected better for the price that I paid.

I might have defective unit. I've been using the toaster now for over 2 weeks and up until today only one side of the bread would toast. I called support and they told me to try a different power outlet. Even on the different outlet (different breaker) it still only toasted one side of the bread.
After several days using it on the different power outlet, I moved it back to the original outlet and it was still a problem.
Before exchanging for another one, I called my electrician to check the amperage and voltage on my outlets. He is scheduled to come by later this week.
HOWEVER, today, it MIRACULOUSLY worked properly. Both sides of the bread toasted fairly evenly.
I will continue to monitor. Maybe it just needed some time break in.
I am a huge fan of Breville products.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had the same problem with this toaster.

This toaster starts out as a 2-3 star toaster and over a short period of time becomes a 0 star toaster as it simply won't toast one side of the bread.

I bought this "appliance" before Christmas thinking I was getting a toaster, a toaster for bread, plain old bread!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But now that I have it, I see that I got a toaster for bagels, although NO information I read indicated it was only for bagels. I paid quite a bit for the requirement to remove the bread from the first process, then turn it around and toast again so that both sides of the bread are toasted. I am so disppointed!

This is an awesome toaster, a Christmas present in December 2021. We also bought a Breville microwave oven. The toaster worked well and we were very happy with our purchase. In December 2022 the toaster stopped working. The bread was toasted but would not pop up. Every light on the unit was flashing on and off in unison. We unplugged the unit and waited a while before plugging it back in, hoping for a reset. This worked for a while (minutes) before all functions froze and lights started flashing again. Repeated several times with identical results. The manual offered no advice on resetting or re-booting. The toaster came with a one year warranty. It was unclear to us when the warranty stared, day of order, day of shipping, day of receipt, other? Whatever, we were right up against the warranty expiration date.
We contacted Breville and customer service was extremely helpful and professional. They sent a replacement toaster and a few days later we returned the non-working unit.
In summary this is our experience:
Our premium and well-liked toaster malfunctioned during the warranty period. Our experience with a Breville warranty claim was excellent. We now have a new identical toaster and are very happy with it. We were fortunate that our unit malfunctioned a few days before the expiration of the warranty period. We dodged a bullet. If I thought the unit would malfunction in the 10 to 14 month period I would not have bought it. And this is the reason I would not recommend that others purchase this product.

I spent more money on this toaster expecting good quality. Unfortunately to start it did not toast evenly, which is important in a toaster. After about a year and a half it stopped working all together. It shorted out and blew the breaker. No matter what I tried I couldn't get it to work, so I'm assuming I'm out one expensive toaster. I was expecting better quality and longevity, but unfortunately got neither.

I have a previously bought version of this toaster that still works great - is the perfect toaster. Diagnosed celiac 2 years ago we needed a 2nd toaster for gluten free bread and so researched and bought "the best". Just randomly stopped toasting - looking for warranty and support it looks like 1 year limited. Very disappointed for the $.

We are great fans of Breville products, except for toasters. This is the second toaster with performance issues. This was a new replacement we had to immediately return because one side of the bread toasted much less than the other. One side toasted, the other was basically warm bread. Customer service was great to work with.

Very disappointed. Toaster elements on outside of toaster are hotter than elements on inside and therefore toast the bread unevenly. We have to pull the bread out and turn the slice around to get bread toasted the same on both sides. When I called customer support I was told Breville toasters are made this way but rep did not know why.

Toaster I bought stopped raising and lowering toast and was replaced. The second toaster already has a burnt out element. Only toasts on one side. Both less than 1 year old. Really substandard product for Breville.

I like the features and appearance..this is my third toaster that fails to toast both sides evenly in the last 5 yrs.this new one failed out of the box. I am living with this problem..Breville has an electrical design problem..The coils do not-come out of bagle mode intermittentlyThis really should have been addressed years ago !

We purchase our toaster a couple of years ago. In order to put an end to unreliable toasters, we decided to go with the Breville. When operating it is excellent, we rarely use it and keep it like new. At this point, it won't power up. Spending more is not always best!

My husband and I were super excited to receive this as a wedding gift. It was working great, but a year and a half after receiving it, it broke! The metal piece that moves the bread up and down came detached from the lever. Very disappointed as it is just out of warranty. For an expensive toaster, we were expecting to use it for years to come. We will be choosing a different brand on our next purchase!

Purchased this toaster at a kitchen shop about 6 months ago. As of this morning Nov 15/21, the toaster only toasts the outward sides of the slices, the inward elements do not heat up. This is an expensive appliance of disappointing performance and quality.

Lifting mechanism failed after 1 year and 19 days! Only 1 of 2 toast lifting is now working. Although it is a die cast and looks sturdy, the internals are flimsy to say the least. I expected this to last. Although I have other Breville products which give me great satisfaction, I have to say stay away from this one. Definitely not worth it.

Granted this was purchased 2-3 years ago but it was used in our vacation home and as such hasn't been used more than a few dozen times. When not in use it was unplugged. It worked good initially but now Unfortunately it only toasts on the outside edge not the inside. Second element doesn't work and it's too old for warranty work. I have never had a toaster go bad this fast.

Had this toaster for a few years, and after the first year it started to misbehave. After toasting was completed, it would stay stuck at the bottom position and the bread would not come up. Have to unplug it and replug it a few times for the break to come up. It would happen every few weeks.
And now for the last week, half the element is not working so both bread are toasted only one one side :(
Very dissappointed about this Breville product. Should be much better than that.

I bought this toaster aug 2019 but had it in storage(unopened for 6 months while we were having our new home built. (We were living in an airbnb.) So we have used it from Feb 2020 till now Oct 2020. But this month it started only toasting one side. Very disappointed for this supposedly high end toaster $$$

We barely used this toaster maybe 10 times and it is shot. We bought it at William Sonoma, it was pricey, but we liked the look and ease of features that we were shown. Money down the toilet. I am going back to Target or Wal-mart and buying just a normal toaster that will last for 20 years.
